    A Carolina Wren pair hav built a nest in a plant pot hanging from our fence. The father wren calls to all and sundry that this is his territory. Such beautiful birds. Their sassiness reminds me of English Robbins. A great presentation of the life of family Carolina Wrens.

    I just came across this video, and I love it! We have Carolina wrens nest on our patio every year. The presence of people and dogs does not bother them at all. Those little brown birds bring a lot of joy to our house.😊

    Love those little birds. Got a pair back for a second year building under the back of one of my chicken coops. They found their way into my black soldier fly bin where I raise larva and raided it regularly feeding out their babies. Then showed the babies to the stash after they fledged out. They mopped up on larva all summer till cold weather shut it down. Moving the bug farm indoors in a shed this year but I set up the old bin and got it started for the wrens a couple of weeks ago. Got a good population of them around here. Hope they all find their way to the bugs.

    We had a pair of Wrens nest in my old gas grill a couple of years ago, and I stuck a bore scope camera in to see the chicks, and I began to put out suet, and meal worms for them. We noticed later that summer, that the wrens were going around our house, and EATING THE LARVA OUT OF PAPER WASP NESTS! They are my heroes! We do every thing we can to encourage the local birds to come by, have a snack, and to eat bugs. Between that, and the addition of 3 chickens, our once burgeoning spider, tick, and wasp populations are gone.

    Just had this guy come to eat the suet. My Carolina wrens come all the time. The funny thing about them is that they are the only birds that stand on the suet as opposed to on the side of the suet! It cracks me up. I also had one rather unkempt Carolina wren and I called him janky bird. I haven't seen him in awhile though. They are such cuties.

    They are neat birds and are not very fearful of people. If they learn that you will look out for them and not mess with their nest, they’ll keep coming back. Known as “garage wrens” because of this. Mine don’t even care if I shut the door at night because they know I’ll open it in the morning.

    Congratulations on attracting a Carolina Wren to the nest box. I had a House Wren pair that made a nest in my nest box and even had some eggs that I found last week. Unfortunately, the nest box was raided yesterday, and only the nest remained. It seems like the same male wren is still alive, but I haven’t seen any chicks. Wonderful video!! Question maybe you can answer: I have a nest in my potted mint on my deck! Three little eggs and a noisy dad that visits often. I would love to move them or give them a proper house (not in my herbs!). Can I move them safely? Suggestions?

  • @BirdsWalkingDown

    @BirdsWalkingDown

    3 жыл бұрын

    Birds don't think about proper housing like we do. I've had house finches nesting in my front porch light fixture for years. I one replaced the light fixture with a birdhouse. And they didn't use it. I put the light fixture back and they starting using it again. Long story short, I would leave it. Moving it may cause them to abandon the eggs. They will fuss it you get close but they will not abandon because of that.

    @@BirdsWalkingDown good to know; Carolina wrens nested on my porch last year inside empty cardboard boxes that got stacked up. One windy day it blew over and I did all I could to rescue their eggs, but I ended up finding 2 that shuffled to the bottom long after they left. This year they decided to start building inside the fabric pocket of my porch swing!! I am hoping we don’t have any inclement weather that might pose a threat - or any predators - because I just find it odd they would pick there to build a nest! Oddly enough, one of the parents has been bringing the 3 that were born last year to the porch - the parent is leaving them to sleep on one side of the porch while they sleep on the other side close to that swing with the nest. Not sure what the 3 young wrens need to be here for, but if you have any ideas about that behavior I would be interested in knowing about it. Thanks for awesome video!

    Great video! I have a pair that just finished building their nest in a box in my porch eaves. They finished a couple of days ago. I haven't seen them since. I'm assuming they need to mate before she starts laying eggs?

    Currently have a Carolina Wren incubating 5 eggs. Unfortunately I have been having trouble with my bluebird nest boxes eggs disappearing. Have 2 bluebird boxes, one bigger and one smaller, in the same yard pretty close, but not to close, to one another. Big one always gets used and the little one may get used every once and a while, it didn’t get used last year. Well, bluebirds tried twice to brood and both times the eggs would eventually disappear. Saw a brown little bird fly into the smaller box and found out what it was online. It was a Carolina Wren and they are very territorial. Gonna move the small box to another part of the yard farther away from the bluebird box just in case. After the babies fledge naturally. I hope a bluebird tries again because of not this would be the first year no bluebirds babies were born in either of my nest boxes.

    Thank you for sharing. My guess is that Carolina Wrens aren't bothering the Bluebirds. From my experience it's more likely a House Wren which is also a brown bird.

    @@BirdsWalkingDown Thanks for the information. I typed in small brown bird North Carolina and Carolina wren was the first thing that came up. I looked up House Wren and you may be right. Either way I need to move the nesting box farther away so hopefully this doesn’t happen again.

    Wrens in my area very much favor moth caterpillars and will seek ONLY those to feed the chics. If you live in a city or overly populated locale where insecticide spraying is done this hurts several bird varieties.

    Learned about your channel from Lesley the Bird Nerd. Your videos are amazing. Last year I had a pair of Carolina Wrens build a nest on a shelf inside my barn and successfully raise a brood, even with my driving equipment in and out. Unfortunately, this year they abandoned their nest (with 5 eggs), which is still upsetting to me. I’d like to build a nest box like yours to mount outside the barn. Do you have a pattern for it? Thank you.
