Our landlord wrens check for moths every morning under our planter boxes. They find so many- I don’t know how the moths aren’t extinct. We call them landlords because they will barge in our house every time we leave the door open for more than 30 minutes. Checking our air filters, I guess.

Just yesterday, we had five chicks leave the nest that the parents set up in our messy shed. The parents were helping the chicks get to some nearby trees. It was so cool to watch and listen to their different calls! One chick wasn't quite ready to fly and had trouble getting out before dark so I put the nest in a box and put the bird in the nest (using gloves) and it slept safely over night. In the morning, as soon as I went outside, the parents were on my porch ready to help their chick. They got it to follow them on the ground and they would find bugs and feed it. Eventually, the rest of the chicks came over and the whole family of wrens went along hunting for food. The little chick was already getting stronger and getting close to flying. Success!

I have fallen in love with a Wren, which has been named Wrenfro, that comes to our glass door and "crickets" at us for peanuts... after he gets it, he gives a chatter on the way out, which I interpret as a "Thank you"... he has brought his family recently too!

The most entertaining thing about a Carolina Wren is their affinity for alternative nesting sites. These birds will make a nest out of ANYTHING. If you leave your convertible top down, a wren will have a nest in your cupholders on your lunch break. Love these crazy birds!

Yes they will, even in old bees nests. 😂 They're fearless for such little cuties. They scold us all the time lol. I love it. I had been telling my young aduIt son about them, he had gotten me a small bird house for mother's day and wrens claimed it. I was telling him how they scold me when I go outside. So one day I heard one outside and got a message from him. He was working on the car and one came right up to him a few feet away and sat there giving him the business 😂 He said I think I just met your birds mom, the ones from the bird house he got for them. 😅

ANY time my cats stroll through my yardc& getbto close to their nest ... scolding starts loud, strong, & "scary" (except to my cats) now I know THATS the male also & all this time I thought it was the Mama!! LOL Here in Florida's panhandle we have LOTS n LOTS of Carolina wrens. Our Mockingbirds imitate them sometimes 🤣😂🤣 I love learning from you!! 🥰🥰

I hear ya! It's amazing to see the culprit behind such a loud voice. Too funny about your cat upsetting them. I think Carolina Wrens have the biggest personality of all the small birds and they really don't care how little they are, haha! With the scolding calls it could be the female as well. The only calls the females don't make are the Cheer calls and they don't sing the tea kettle song. I hope that helps :) Have a wonderful evening.

One day I heard a beautiful song with so many changes and tracked it down. I was in the house and found a little Carolina wren sitting on a table I had by my bedroom window, which was open. It stopped for a few seconds when it saw me looking and then continued singing. I lay on the bed and listened to his amazing song for a long time and then his mate actually came up to him and they flew off. We were over the road truckers at the time. They lived in our carport for several years until we came home and I found part of his body. He had given his life to defend a fallen young. I cried.

I just love wrens. We've had them nest in our yard several times. I find they are opportunistic nesters. Once, a house wren made a nest in a hanging planter. Once I discovered this, I was very careful in watering the plant. The way I found out was while I was watering with a milk jug, the mom ended up in the jug...which startled me and I threw the jug into the yard.....followed by the thought of how I was going to raise tiny wrens! Mom was fine and after the babies fledged, I removed the nest only to discover that the mom had added a piece of plastic to the bottom of the nest!

Thank you for your education. We enjoy Jesus waking us up with His beautiful creation every morning. For years we have had families of King sparrows nesting on our lamps. After the birds have grown and left, we knock down the nest so they will build new ones. I heard if they have mites and use old nest, it can kill the babies because the infestation will become too great for them to cope with in old nest. Right now we have a wren who has nested in our garage in a cut open aloe vera juice bottle that we use to collect screws, nails, nuts or bolts when working on a project. We are trying to make sure the garage is closed at night so our cat won't get in on her night prowl. Then we crack the garage so she can get out during the day. When she first started to lay and we notice she was there, right next to our door on the shelf that we go in and out of to get things out of our extra frig, she would fly out of her nest to another part of the garage. Also going through the garage is the only way for our dogs to get out to the back yard. I was concerned she would get off her nest too much with all the activity and the eggs would not get the attention they needed. Well, oddly enough a too close call with our cat solved that. Muffin snuck into the garage early on and my daughter heard her screaming in the garage and she rushed in to find her in our Muffin's mouth. Sabrina got the cat off her. Now she realizes we are not going to harm her and has stayed in her nest when we come out. She also lets us poke our head up to see her and talk to her. I am so grateful she is okay and doing fine. Can't wait to see all those babies hatch.

Love those little birds. There's a pile of them here all the time. One pair made a nest under the top of my old chicken coop and raised a clutch while I was building my second coop. Was afraid they might abandon the nest since I was working only a few feet away everyday. But they stuck it out and brought the babies off the nest about the same time I finished the new build. Couple of days later they found their way into my black soldier fly bin. ChaChing! lol They finished feeding out the babies with my bugs and now all five of them are in and out of the bin all day long. They sometimes come by when I'm feeding the bin and sit on the side frame waiting for me to finish so they can get to their tasty bugs. lol I harvest about a half gallon of larva out of the bin every day for my birds. Those little guys hardly scratch the surface of the brazillion bugs in there. Nights will cool off soon though and they'll have to go on the hunt again. They're very good at that though. Kept seeing them carrying green inch worms to their babies and was watching them one day. They were hopping around searching under poison oak leaves and finding those little worms. Crafty little things they are.

I appreciate the information about the different calls and songs. They are amazing creatures! They make me very happy! Thanks, Lesley!

Years ago my rather young little brother heard one of these singing what sounded like his name and exclaimed "It's saying Jeremy!" He passed away a couple years ago, as a strong young man of 24. The following spring a pair of his childhood 'Jeremy Birds' nested in a flower pot on my parents' front porch, and another pair nested in my outdoor workshop.

It’s December here in the northeast, and it always amazes me the mostly insect eating birds who choose to winter here. I have a Carolina Wren who has chosen a hanging wood bird feeder that I turned into a decoration years ago, that hangs under my back patio roof. I was surprised to see a nest way up inside of it, after wondering where he went after entering it. He roosts there every night, and will sometimes dive into it during the day. I imagine it’s probably a red tailed hawk, as they sometimes hunt my birds. I have suet, mealworm and seed feeders, so he has plenty to eat here. But he spends most of his day elsewhere, probably foraging in the woods behind my property. Thank you for your very informative videos on different kinds of birds.

What a great video! The Carolina Wren just might be my favorite bird. They just have so much personality! I've had the same family of Carolina Wrens nesting in my garage (3 door garage, with the door always open because it's busted) for over 20 years now. What's so funny to me is that they always pick a different place to nest in. One year it was an old metal mailbox, that was just laying there, discarded in a corner. Another year they nested in my grandparents old freezer, because the door was left open. They even nested in my Dad's old baseball glove from the 1950's. Great video, Lesley! BirdsWalkingDown takes the absolute BEST footage of birds on youtube, hands down, so thank you too, sir!
