Probably THE BEST interview you have done. By script or accident, you'all covered an absolutely wide range areas of music, technique, craft and being a real person. Yolanda is so sweet and a charming person. Lee- you must get her back on in a year or two to go over what has happened with her solo projects and band(s). I know there is much more here, and you guys click as far as discussion 😊

What an incredible person. So well grounded. So refreshing to see someone focused on being happy and doing what they want making it all happen rather then injecting themselves in everyone elses issues. Great interview. Now I have to go seek out more about who she is as a musician. Thanks once again for presenting yet another amazing human being to Andertons and the Captain.

Bass lines as melody - YESSS!!! Yolanda's shout-out to Aston Barrett is Exhibit A for bass lines as melody. Bass players like Dennis Bovell, Robbie Shakespeare and Family Man are my biggest musical influences. James Jamerson's work on What's Going On is absolutely sublime.

I'm not British, I never heard of her before while I've played bass for 30 years now.. I definitely have heard of Jimmy Sommerville, Paul Weller, The Police, Squeeze, etcetera. That's a really impressive resume. I loved this interview, she seems like such a nice person. I'm definitely going to check out her work. Thanks for the introduction.

I think the Live Wood era 93-94 Paul Weller band live sound is among the best live British rock sounds ever. Everyone in that band was a genius, and they were such a good fit. You can find many of those videos on KZread, worth a few listen.

The videos of Live Wood, the first couple years of Weller doing his "solo" career in 93-94 just blow my mind every time. This was fabulous. A beautiful personality, woman and player, Yolanda really is the real thing...a true spirit. I know her somewhat from several encounters over the years and am always totally enamoured by the sheer positivity she exudes, whether just chatting or playing. The last time I saw her perform was at the Frankfurt Musik Fair in 2014(ish), where she and her superb drummer at the time were with supremo guitarist Greg Koch in a massive marquee packed with avid musos and industry types watching in awe. Though the Sting gig would have introduced her to an even bigger audience, from what she says at the end she is happy to walk away from stardom in pursuit of her own world. I'm surely not the only one who can relate to that. Sting certainly would. Once again, thank you. More Yolanda, please.

Yolanda has an incredibly holistic approach to being a musician with a very conscious approach to choosing where, why and when to collaborate or to lead. I learned a lot better as a band leader of how to communicate with those in my band. Outside of the joy of playing every band member has completely different reasons to be in my band. I must be honest it is much easier to see the big picture because of this interview. I do not mean to but I am sure I must often steam roller over my band members at times. I am sure I can get not just the same results but better results by seeing how they see things at the time.

Love Andertons and Love Yolanda Charles. A great meeting of minds and gear/kit. Great interview. Thank you. Groove is everything. Any decent band leader in any genre values their bassist as 50% of their wing wo(man)ship onstage - the other being a decent drummer. Without a decent bassist, a band cannot really lift off and it's fascinating to hear individual stories as to why musicians gravitate to the bass and stay there as the main thing. You do a very valuable job that will always be in demand! (more so than guitarists haha)

Wonderful interview... the 10 minute length of the Growing Up & Influences section... nice it wasn't glossed over. And her statement that she didn't know 'how' to go about becoming a working musician... that's one of the great things about the internet age is that it's so much easier for young people to learn from those that have come before. New fan, here in the States. Her wonderful speaking accent doesn't hurt, either. ;)
