You can tell from Charles nervousness that he is a humble guy. He will get more comfortable in front of the camera as his fame continues to grow, but clearly it’s all about the music for him, which is refreshing.

@@reilly-vc1rm Really, what’s so funny???
Like most, I became familiar with Charles from his “battles” with Davie504. Glad to see his growing success. Seems like a humble guy for all his talent.
Yes! Charles is a monster player, and I an SO pleased to see him ‘at Andertons’. Bernth absolutely deserves a spot as well! Absolutely phenomenal player! 🤩
I love charles's bass playing its amazing
"All my notes are Jazz notes" Epic
Love seeing Charles getting more and more exposure outside of his already amazing channel. This guy is easily one of the best bassists in the world and fully deserves all the recognition he's getting and then some.
This guy is amazing. Superb bass player and seems to be very humble.
Now this guy is amazing. If he'd been active in the golden age of rock he'd be mentioned in the same breath as Entwistle et al. Technically, of course, he is miles better. He really is the Guthrie of bassists, or vice versa.

@reilly-vc1rm which is why I used the word "technically". Try reading the whole comment. Entwistle was way cooler, and brilliant, but there's literally nothing he played that Charles couldn't learn in an hour. Technically. Would he have the same raw power? No. But show John a piece of Charles' music and he wouldn't have a clue.
I found Charles through Davey, and I'm super glad that I did. Charles, you are one of the greatest bass players on earth today, as hard as that might be for you to wrap your head around, it's the truth.
I literally stumbled across Charles on the Davie504 colab and was one of the 50,000 new subscribers and have been amazed at his talent, technicality and love of music and the fact he expresses it on the bass guitar is certainly niche and super cool....and now he's a star.
@Tannhauser62

You literally stumbled across him? Hope you're OK.
The song he played at the end was awesome. It sounded like at least two people playing at once. Superb !
You can hear Victor Wooten all over his playing! I’d love a Captain meets Victor Wooten!!
I'm so impressed with Charles. He's humble and hugely talented.
I've always looked at music exactly like this young man. He is so talented & he's worked his butt off. It shows through & through.
Amazing. I'm glad this happened. Cheers from Karachi, Pakistan
So happy to see Charles getting some more love and recognition. He's outrageously good and seems like such a cool guy.
Charles has to be considered as one of the finest bass players in the world . His playing is sublime and so varied. I never thought a bassist would interest me so much. He is impressive.
Now that's an unexpected but completely sensible episode! I like his thinking, because it took me like 20 years to notice how interesting you can be with bass lines even if you sit in the "background" as opposed to just plucking that lowest note all the time. How the bass line really sets a lot of emotions to the layers built on it, changing the whole feel by their note choice. And there's room for bass solos in songs, sometimes more than for guitar solos even. A lot of artists don't really explore that far even if they're creating rather exploratory music or even if they utilize a lot of arranging and production hooks. I think it was Tool and Opeth that hinted at me about "hey, forget the guitar, listen to what this bass is doing". There's been some thrash metal type of songs where I've heard bass solos too, as an almost inside joke of the band, but I think they sounded pretty good. Like those bassists were always on the spot with their musical sense more than maybe the guitarists, they didn't go overboard and started kinda from the theme of the music so it was simple, brief and fit greatly in the song. Similar to how sometimes a rock/pop band's guitar solo is just a bar or few based on the main theme and that fits the song great, not going overboard with soloing. I think bassists generally got that down much better than guitarists, not overplaying. Perhaps partially due to their instrument already being slightly limiting depending on the sound, you start losing distinctness of the notes if you go too hard on the wrong part of the neck. The outro I swear is from NES's Darkwing Duck game (which was probably "borrowed" from somewhere where Charles' inspiration comes from).
Charles is one of the most technically talented bassists I’ve ever heard and is also an excellent musician. A stellar bassist all around.
Charles may be the best Bass player in the world right now
Charles is a great bass player. I’ve had him do bass on many of my songs. He has an excellent ear and technique.
Thanks guys for a great interview !
Davie might have helped a lot in making people aware of Charles, but can't deny how incredibly fast he was able to adapt to that and grow his channel as much as he did. Charles obviously put a lot of effort to ride the wave while it was hot and it takes a lot of hard work to be successful at it, kudos to you! You are awesome Charles!
I discovered Charles Berthoud way before the davie504 thing, I love love love his song "Luna" it's played on a piccolo bass it's so beautiful!
Fantastic guest. Fantastic playing. Fantastic interview.
Great playing Charles. You get a great sound from that bass. Thanks Lee for another great interview.
"So much more to bass than I have even tapped into..." ^_^
IMO, I love that he can shine and he's continuing to push the Bass to the prominence it really deserves as an instrument and a driving force which it is but doesn't need to be a total backstop.
Charles is an incredible musician and he plays bass pretty well.
Victor wooten‘s old video of his rendition on Amazing Grace is godly
Hell yeah! Can’t wait for that 5 string on different colors! I’ll definitely wait for that one! 🤘🏻🤘🏻keep putting out great content Charles!
Charles would have to be one of my favourite bass players. Thank you so much for having him on.
Thank God Davey made this guy famous
I like Charles even more now.
Wishing all the best for this young man. I'm a big fan of Wooten and I love it when bassists use the instrument as he did in the outro. Works magically on bass. Back in the MySpace days I remember watching an American bassist (apologies I can't remember his name) who had videos of him playing songs this way, rhythm with left hand whilst tapping the vocal melody with his right. I remember he did a beautiful version of Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight".
Awesome bass playing!
Charles have really changed my view on bass, he is something extra, just awesome!

He seems like such a genuinely nice and humble guy. His playing is always astounding, but the basic tone on that bass is amazing.
He's an amazing bassist. Mad helpful too, his lessons are great for anyone considering joining his patreon.
We love you Lee
What an incredible inspiration
Huge fan of Charles!!
In the bass world he is Eddie Van Hendrix
Iconic
Great video. You should have The Warning on when they are touring in Europe again. Great band of 3 sisters who rock out.
A good drumbeat is the backbone of a song. A good bassline can be heart or the soul or both of a song.
YES
Wow! I love the hardest song series!
Glad to see Charles starting to get more recognition and exposure, been watching him for a few years and cant understand why he isnt out there more (that other stupid slap guy has more subs wtf) - awesome to see
what a lad so humble 🤟🙂
Wow Charles made it!
What an amazing musician.
Probably the best bass player I have ever heard. My favourites are Cliff Burton, Lemmy and Steve Harris.
Love the design of the bass, but if it was mine (which it will never be), I would match the headstock to the body, namely brown wooden stripe through the middle and brown wood edging, with the Schecter logo in black set into the centre wood stripe.
My YT worlds are colliding, mind BLOWN! ! !

Can't wait for the collab with Bernth
He's such a cool guy brilliant bass player
Get Victor on! And bring Charles back!
Seeing Charles play live for this video shows how precise his playing is when he can only do 1 take!
More Charles
Charles is a helluva nifty bass player
Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick is the artist well known for basically creating the 12-string.
hes insane on bass but hes actually really good at guitar too. he has acouple guitar videos hes posted that really blew my mind. and he is really good at composing music as well hes just a genius when it comes to arranging music in general
Anderson’s and Charles Berthoud, the crossover I’ve only dreamed of!
hey charles hope your well, brilliant bass playing, nice bild buy schecterthe sustaining sund tramindous, man that bass sonds awesome.
Total badass 🤩
Very nice bass, probably not quite the sound I would go myself for but looks very playable
Crazy how Charles was known for doing bits with Davey504 and now he's massive himself.
This guy is absolutely amazing. What a player and a well deserved signature. Also what room is this? New video room?

The 12 string player you are thinking of is Tom Petersson from cheap trick. Or maybe Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam.
Wow, two of my favorite music YT channels collide.
Charles is a beast
Dug Pinnick, now that's a bassist. Prior to him it was Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick and his 12 string Hamers.
Charles did you check out their bass selection on the floor of their store and ask why it's so small? It's in a literal dark corner of the store, at least it was the last time I was there just over a year ago.
what is that multiscale tele , looks like a 7 or 8 string in the top right (greyish black) , guess i should have waited until you said you are are schecter lol
plenty funky
Love Davie504, but nah, forget about Davie. You've got a new subscriber thx to having Charles on the show. I'll check out some of your other stuff after this interview. Hoping to find some theory and songwriting stuff!
A link to his channel would have been nice...
Love a good bass player ! 😊sounds Great ! 🇺🇸👍🎼
I can’t wait to see the 5 and 6 string variants of his signature. His bass is truly a work of art but for my needs a four string unfortunately doesn’t cut it.

If you can't make it work it at 4 strings, maybe it's you.
@JVR10893
3 ай бұрын
@@kalidesu I used to think this way. As a teenager I was a Cliff Burton fanboy who refused to use anything other than a four string, but having the extended range of a five string or sometimes even a six string makes it so I can play songs without spanning a long stretch of the fretboard, as it’s easier to sing and play at the same time when my hand can stay relatively stationary on the fretboard, not to mention I rarely have to change tunings or bring multiple instruments since if a song requires a note lower than E, I have the low B string there to give me those extra low notes. When you’re a gigging musician who doesn’t have a devoted road crew, you start to care about convenience more than anything else, and in most situations, having that extra low string is the most convenient option for the types of gigs I play.
sweet
Charles Berthoud is like the Tosin Abasi of bass guitar
Awesome to see Charles on the channel! I think he needs to play live more! despite his immense skill, he wasn't always in the pocket at the start.
2 of my favorite You Tubers. Didn't Tom Peterson from Cheap Trick play a 12-string bass? No love for Billy Sheehan, lol.
