+Nick Johnston Always great to see a guitarist's passion for the instrument having played for so many years. As of recent years its been the only thing in life that's fully held my interest, so I hope that carries on for me as it has for players like yourself

glad to see how far you've come since I first started listening (public display of infection) and so many more people are catching on and supporting an amazing talent

Hi Nick, absolutely love your playing, you have been my favourite strat player since I discovered you. It's really your use of dynamics and the way you use the pickup selector to sculpt the aggression in your sound that I love :)
What a great video. Nick is amazing
Holy crap this guy is good. Really friendly too; it's always nice when the best players are cool guys too.

I dare to say that the really good players are almost always nice people, now those that think they are good are always dick heads!
@thorestey
8 жыл бұрын
+Jon Gomez I'd put it this way: Most people who are dickheads to others and think they are good, are actually shit players. You never see people like Nick, Mick, Danish Pete, Rob, Bea and the like posting stupid comments.

+Jacob Walker Not a joke. I lived in Canada for awhile and I can't beliebe how much nicer people are there in general.
I love these" The captain meets" videos! I really like Nick's videos! He's a beast of a guitar player!
The key to master your art: time and isolation. Two things almost nobody has today. This was a very inspiring and humble video - thanks :-)

+instrumentenfreak Thats why its so key to inspire kids to start music early. Once life takes over, it's very hard to find time to sit down and completely dedicate to music.
@frmadeira
8 жыл бұрын
+Matt Whitmire Most kids don't have the concentration to sit in the same place for long repeating the same thing over and over, that's why not everyone is a virtuoso, practice is everyting. But honestly let kids be kids, many great guitarists started late.

To say that Nick has changed the way I look at an SSS Strat over the past year or so would be an understatement. Definitely one of my favorite modern players.

I use single coils now. I use to hate them on the bridge.
I'm really good at multitasking.....Example: Listening to Nick Johnston and posting all of my gear on Craigslist at the same time.
If Guthrie Govan and Joe Satriani had a child, he would look like Mr. Johnston.

more Captain Meets episodes please!!
Has the Captain ever recorded a project? He has a great touch and feel which would sound awesome if he did a bluesy project.
Amazing documentary on Nick's channel.
If Nick shaved his head, he would look like Satriani's little brother. lol Great playing man!

Great interview. Amazing player. Definitely need more Captain meets.
Two nice, humble and talented guys chatting and playing guitars. What could be more entertaining? Thanks Lee & Nick!
I am halfway into listening to "Remarkably Human". Nothing in this interview is an indicator of how awesome that album is. There is some real *music* on there
Thank you Captain for doing this. What a pleasant surprise to get my morning coffee, check out the latest on your channel and find this great video.
Well Done Fellas. Perfect inspirational timing. Thank You so very much for this session. More please.

When he first started I wasn't that impressed- sure he's fast, etc- but I really grew to like him. Lovely chap!
I love how genuine and humble Nick is! He's a great player! :D
Another professional and fantastic Interview to watch. Reminds me of the old grey whistle test days - late night BBC 2 style - wonderful. Thanks.
What a nice and talented guy. So glad there are still musicians like him out there who play because they love and enjoy their craft.

I love these videos where the captain meets a wide variety of different players to talk about gear. Hopefully he will continue priducing new material in this genre. Great stuff!
Good tone and feeling captain! :) Nick Johnston's playing is just out of this world! And he's such a cool guy.

The pickup selector is one thing but he also couples that with constantly working the volume and tone.
Nick is awesome. Great interview.
The captain and Nick J. Awesome.

great interview
Great interview. He seems like a cool guy and Capt did a great job.
Phenominal guitarist and really nice guy. One of the few instrumental guitar guys whose stuff I dig. Such a great sense of melody and harmony and plays so expressively. Awesome tone too

ive always wondered how nick hits that srv lick haha awesome!!! one of my favorite guitar players hands down
i have the same Schecter USA candy red the Captain is playing .... my precious!!! love it
Stay Together for the Kids?? Hahah so good! You rock, Nick.
Nick, you are so humble - keep this up and keep playing that beast - i like the glassy tone you have. Someday we will play together
aweesome !
Great interview
nick seems like such a nice, genuine dude.
Awesome bloke
0:35 I was like NO WAY is the Cap playing leads to Nick! Way too cool! I really enjoy this series guys, keep em coming :)
Nick Johnston, dude you are great , for many years i also was isolated as i live far from any major city and it is then i picked up guitar, im deeply inspired man. there is not much oppertuinity here in bengal for guitar players but ill keep trying......keep up the good work
I really enjoyed this one. Well done Lee!
This interview is night and day from his sit down with EytschPi42. The cap is the type of guy that seems to make people feel really comfortable and at home. Asks the right questions and let's the guest actually finish their thought. Top content as always!
From 2:14 to 2:16 it actually looked like Lee was getting the riff, only for the illusion to be cruelly shattered!
first heard of nick when i was snooping in the SD page for videos. quickly became one of my fav guitarists haha
What a nice fella.
OMG Nick Johnston + Gavin Harrison , 2 of my favourite musicians of all time collaborating that is INCREDIBLE.
Genius..... and original
Nick keep it up! you got a fan from Perú!!
His technique just like a Andre Nieri. Nick Johnston is fantastic!
Sweet!
such clear tone omg
You guys rule. :)
These "Meet the Artist" videos are cool, Lee. Well done.
I own a 1985 original David Schecter Strat and it's one guitar I shall hold on to, together with a 71' Les Paul. Superb playability and sound. Possibly the best neck I ever played... \m/
You've got balls of steel Captn ! I would never dare to touch a guitar around that guy ;)
Man I really like Nick Johnson’s guitar tone and music! The first Schecter product I became aware of was a chromed metal Strat pickguard fully loaded with custom single coils and individual mini-toggles to activate each pick-up in various modes, and it sounded awesome! That was nearly 40 years ago! A few months ago I bought a Schecter 8 string with a Floyd Rose and it was concert ready out of the box. Plus, Loomis uses Schecters :)
I absolutely love how much respect they clearly have for each other. Too often shreddy guitarists get caught up in the hype they get for their technical ability, and while Lee is fully aware of the fact he can't play at that speed (which very few of us can!) Nick clearly appreciates him for everything he is capable of. The work that both of them have put into their careers is undeniably admirable and it's inspiring to see two people who mutually understand that level of dedication to a shared passion and appreciate their different tastes and directions with such a high degree of understanding.
Its cool to see the capt jam with someone the plays a similar style of music.
Really awesome interview Nick!! I can kind of relate to how you picked up guitar. I dont really come from a musical family background. There was actually a friend of mine (back when i was a normal kid) that lived close to me who actually had a Blue fender strat back in Connecticut where i grew up. He had a cheap Fender combo amp. So i got the same exact amp as he did. haha I played Nirvana, and Blink 182 pop punk stuff. I think i actually learned the same song as you did on my own at the time which was "Stay together for the kids" by blink 182. I think i learned TONS of blink 182 stuff back then lol.. When i listen to blink 182 stuff these days looking back at all the songs id listen to, i think imo theyre really great besides the Shred instrumentals i listen to nowadays...
I cannot stop listening to sandmonster by NIck, insane guitar work.
I heard of Nick through a youtube comment so I looked him up and I saw this and said hey perfect and well yeah.... Hes good hes damn good
