Hi Beery, I wrote the piece (Komorebi) that Marty played on and a large tutorial (solo transcription/backing track/interview) was featured on it for Guitar Techniques magazine. Marty and did another piece (Majestical) and is in the latest issue of Guitar Techniques (in shops and online from 28th July 2021). All videos are on my YT channel. Thanks!

I actually got immense satisfaction from learning to play a few Megadeth songs, because I hadn't been playing that long and I'd been listening to those songs for so many years, they were my favourite band growing up and I never thought I'd be able to play them, so it was a big moment of "Maybe I found something I'm actually good at". Any songs that you listened to a lot and were really impressed by will make you feel great once you learn to play them yourself.

@@kristoferramirez1966 Looking back at the time, so many of us learned to play the guitar by ear. Wearing out the vinyl record or cassette tape going over those difficult parts until it was stuck in our brain and then nailed the song. We knew no different and probably did not even think about what the future would hold for learning music.

I'm just glad this interview wasn't packed with Megadeth questions to Marty. We all know what went down with Megadeth. The man doesn't want to talk about it anymore. I've met Marty 4 or 5 times now and the last 3 times I've met him, it's usually on his tour bus with a group of other fans. I like to ask him questions about his song construction, his solo patterns, his approach at chord progressions, etc. and he's usually pretty interested and happy with those questions, but then lots of other guys whip out the typical, "HURR HURR, DO YOU STILL WANT TO BE IN MEGADETH?" "DO YOU TALK TO DAVE M000STAINE?" "WHY DONT YOU JOIN MEGADETH HURR HURR" and the annoyance in his eyes ALWAYS show when he gets those questions. The man spent 10 years in that band and moved on. Enjoy his music, enjoy Megadeth. Thank you Andertons for this great interview. - From a huge Friedman fan. Since Hawaii.

It's very clear that Marty has moved on from Megadeth and doesn't want to talk about it anymore. People always bring it up to him and you can see him get irritated. Marty hasn't been in Megadeth for almost 20 years, he's so far removed from it that to keep asking him about it seems really rude.

The most fascinating side of Marty's lead style is his ability of playing incredibly melodically even at 300 bpm (check the solo in Poison was the cure from Rust in Peace). In Megadeth he always took the solos under challenging chords progression, where Dave Mustaine was taking the ones on static harmonies. You can always sing Marty's solos. Not many players achieved that while shredding

If you’re unfortunately too young or whatever else the reason is/was for not enjoying the original Dead, Mayer with D&C is phenomenal. People are quick to judge yet don’t really know shit lol. Tasteful stuff. Yes Mayer has been an asswipe in the past but it’s very easy to sit behind a screen and judge someone(not saying YOU do, just in general) imagine being world famous before 30 being a loner and insecure. It’s gonna do something to anyone’s ego and that’s just how it is. Whether we admit it openly like John does or not is up to us

Getting into punk at a young age seriously cannot be understated - it is a confidence boost. Playing for only a couple months and being able to play songs makes a young kid feel like the 'real-deal'. Playing stuff by The Ramones, Misfits, (some) Dead Kennedy's, GBH, Germs, Black Flag, etc. I remember playing for like a few months and playing "Die, Die, My Darling" by The Misfits and I felt like a total badass.
