Love this movie. Saw it around Christmas time in 1986 while I was a freshman in college. I was driving the school shuttle bus to make extra money picking up fellow students on campus and dropping them off at the airport for the start of winter break. In between my shifts, I settled into a comfy recliner in the student lounge in our dormitory lobby. This movie happened to be playing on the large flatscreen, and I couldn't help but get totally engrossed in it. After watching for about an hour, I had to go back to driving my shuttle bus in the icy cold of that windy and snowy December day. But that movie always stuck in the back of my mind after all these years. It's nice to have found it on the Internet over 30-years later so I can finally see it in its entirety. Thanks for the upload!

No disrespect to the great Sir Patrick Stewart, and I was a teenager in 1996 so his version was closer to my sensibilities when I first saw it. But Sir John Gielgud absolutely nailed the ghost in this 1986 version. In the decades since I've seen both I often confused Gielgud being the one on the 1996 film.

Although the ghost and Jennifer have a great performance here (although while watching it I cound't help but to hear Johnathan Harris' doctor Smith from Lost in Space...) I first saw it as a child living in the early 60's in Argentina. The version I saw was dubbed into Spanish for TV and I longged to have a hallway of painting depicting all of my ancestors... just like that movie had...

Very Prospero. How I wish he could have recorded all of Shakespeare's Plays, Poems and Sonnets as Gower - with or without a Chorus - then appeared in "The Tempest" as Prospero, the impression to be recieved that Prospero/Sir John has filled his imagination to overflowing...B.B.C. Radio 4 could have managed it. We have actors enough...

This is an adaptation from the story, but both are excellent. Wilde poked fun at Americans in his story, very funny. This movie and the 1944 version with Robert Young and Charles Laughton are the two I like. They made one with the American characters from the book, but I can pass that one up. This version is a joy just to see Sir John Gielgud as the Ghost. 👻

Now this is a Classic! Sir John Gielgud using his classical training. Superb. Alyssa Milano adorable as ever. The dumb guy from SOAP. It's so cringe-y the way Lucy says, "tweeeeed". Ugh Americans with their elbows on the table... All Hallow's School? Lol Um, Lucy's "feelings" were motivated solely by money, initially...were they not? Now I ain't sayin' she's a gold-diggle, But she messin' with a broke Canterville. I forgot how sad the ending was- hits ya right in the feels. :)

At school in 1970 we had to read the book and re-write it from the ghost's point of view. I have seen several versions of the movie and still think the book was best

For all those with thumbs down, why did you watch the movie? I remember this from my childhood. The original and then the new version. Beautiful Castle and the pictures, the furnishings are awesome❣ Thanks for the free video👍 and ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'s as I see it. ☺ Be careful playing with real ghost. Things don't turn out like the movies do. They are eternal evil entities that shouldn't be messed with!☠😈 Edited for date: 3/12/19

Has anyone seen the version of "The Canterville Ghost" starring Patrick Stewart? I loved it, but all I found here on youtube was a few trailers about it. This one is fine, glad I found it, but really liked the other one.

I really didnt like that one, felt a bit hollywoodified. And aside from Patrick Steward, the acting wasn't very good... Not that it's stellar in this one either, mind, but somewhat better. But to each their own :) The 1995 version with Patrick Steward is on Netflix if you want to see it.

I enjoyed this movie, reminded me of those Disney movies during the late 1960's and all through the 1970's.Also like the color of the movie...looked like 'technicolor'. I have never seen this before, but we had to read the story of it in English lit during my 1977-78 junior year of high school.
