The Burcher Line 2004 SD 480p

Ойын-сауық

The Burcher railway branchline in New South Wales Australia was a short country line that still saw occasional seasonal wheat trains until 2005. 623 kilometres from Sydney (380 miles) in a remote region in the centre of the state, its infrastructure was ancient and decrepit. Opened in 1929, it had been laid cheaply for light trains on 60lb (per yard) track, in many places straight onto the ground without ballast. Thus the trains that still ran along it moved very slowly and carefully.
These old videos are likewise decrepit and ancient, shot on mini DV tapes in standard definition. It took a great deal of patience to coax the old camera to play them so we could capture their historical scenes. This is about a railway line, Jim and I were 'tracing the lines'. You'll have to check my other videos on the Burcher line to see a train running on this line.

"Chasing the line". A great little video. It reminded me of those films where they go chasing a " twister". Driving around not knowing where you're going to drive next... I liked the atmospherics of the clouds and the rain on the windscreen. One of your best, Tony. A cut above those tram depots... Geoff 😊

It must be our poor articulation but we were ‘line tracing’, though ‘chasing’ is good. Thanks for your positive comment. I’ll convert you to tram and loco (if not bus) depots yet!

@@horizonstaraus No, not your poor articulation. Just my poor recall. Maybe you should consider writing a piece "The Joy of Tram Depots"? After all, if you can find joy in a tram depot you should be able to find joy pretty well anywhere...

It would be good to be able to have a little rail cart to do a rail trip on these old branch lines even as a weekend trip. There and back

Yes, it would. However I doubt you would be given the go-ahead officially and you’d be easy to notice. Plus, the state of the track is not conducive to safe travel. There must be some somewhere.
