The Brawn story is probably one of the greatest stories in formula 1 history. A team brought at the 11th hour, having to put in a different engine last minute with almost no testing to than be bad fast at the start of the season, but than having no money to develop the car and only having one chassis for the entire year but have just big enough of a cousin to win the title.

The 2009 F1 season was the first time I’ve watched F1 racing in my entire life. I came from a NASCAR background watching Motorsport racing for two decades of NASCAR. Then when I was 13, saw the F1 Monaco Grand Prix in 2009. Saw it and thought this is actually pretty cool. So I was hooked into the circuit and saw the Brawn GP car dominate the year with the aerodynamics in which the team built a rocket. And at the time, Jensen Button was my favorite driver at the time before the 2010s came around. Yeah. Ever since then I’ve watched F1 for quite sometime. Not every race but still really a big fan because of the scope of the competition being from all around the world.

This was one of my favourite seasons. I am a typical Brit and love a good underdog story! I also think that had he been luckier with his drives, this season shows that JB could have been a multiple champion. Yes, the car was the fastest at the start of the season, but it was by no means the fastest _all_ season. Yet JB worked with the tools he had to hand and played the long game, doing what he needed to do to win the championship. Goes to show he had a champion's mindset. Imagine if he'd been in a car and team such as the '08 McLaren, or the '14 Mercedes?! To me, he and Damon Hill (whose smooth driving style was reminiscent of other greats like his dad's or Alain Prost's, with the ability to take calculated risks and the nerve to do the whole "it's *my* track!" thing _when necessary_ - there are many drivers throughout F1's illustrious history who could have learned a lot from that attitude!) are two of the most underrated champions around, certainly of the post 1970's era. And JB's driving style was much like DH's. I love me a smooth but fast guy (on the track, of course!) 😜😂 Yet again, mate, you've nailed the storytelling. This really is your métier. Looking forward to the next one!

It amazes me that every time I watch one of your videos the brilliance of Sebastian Vettel overshadows that of whatever you showcase... Even though this video is about the Brawn GP team it felt more like a prelude to Sebastian's dominant era! Still can't believe people are doubting a man who has achieved so much... Once again amazing video! It had brilliant storytelling! I am so happy that JB won at least one title! I honestly believe there are many drivers who deserved a title but never achieved one, example: Felipe Massa! You know you should make video about such drivers who deserve some glory despite their achievements stating otherwise...

people go back and forth and say I hate vettel bc of my 2019 coverage but forget I make all this haha. i don't have a dog but generally I feel his accomplishments are unfairly given to the car when it's just not the case. my only problem with that video is I don't believe drivers are owed anything. so it would turn into a video where it looks like I'm having a go at him haha if I come up with a fair way, I'd love to. I think it's a wonderful idea. i just have a hard time with how I view things from my lens. and you're likely aware by now how much I despise bias - my own included.

@Prithvidiamond I wouldn't take it personally. F1, since the invention of social media is filled with circlejerking. It's the nature of the beast. While not a fan persay, vettel's talent is evident to anyone with eyes. One doesn't win as much as he has without massive talent, dedication and application. Does he have weaknesses? yes, they all do. His are probably more overt and therefore easier to identify. The problem with vettel's legacy is Fernando and Lewis. They are just better, make less mistakes and are near immune to car inefficiencies. It's the same reason Piquet is rarely ever on anyone top 10, even with 3 wdc. In time fans will come to revere but not during the current mercedes climate.

@@Bahamuttiamat I don't know man... It is just that I see a certain quality not just as a racing driver but as a person in Seb... He has always kind of struck me as the odd one out... I believe we are yet to see something spectacular from him... Maybe one last proper F1 WDC campaign... He may not win it... but he will get ridiculously close... He might pull an Alonso who tries everything possible but still fails... while some people might make more fun of him, I think that for people like us it will be something worth looking forward to!

We can both agree seb is a wonderful person. He's witty, a bit perverted and thoughtful. That much is evident. He's filled with a childish passion that few drivers encapsulate. He loves the history and the numbers. As a person, I'm very fond of him. But as an avid lewis fan, I cannot call myself his fan. If Lewis retires, he'd definitely be a top contender.

It still staggers me that Brawn, team that barely got their team and car together for the season would not only go on to 1 2 their first race, but take the championship in their one and only season. And a Brit being the champion to boot. The term “one hit wonder” is usually used as a slight especially in musical circles, but here it just shows how great this team was. I love the Brawn livery too, very simple but striking with the bright yellow and black stripes. The manager of the MINI dealership I worked at the time loved it too, so much so that he had one of the demonstrators, a silver Cooper S, done up in the Brawn livery (complete with “Brawn GP” decals) for the entirety of the time the car was at the dealership. Wait... Brawn, Button, Barrichello, I see a pattern which is awesome as my surname is a B too!

Glad I subscribed and notification bell when I found ya last week through the rosberg-hamilton rival video. I watched it 3 times already, in a week. I'm a pretty new fan and is currently obsessed. I read F1 related books, listen the podcast, read up on their history, trying to learn as much as possible and you are the perfect channel for me. The "How to Beat Hamilton" script is great and gets people on the seat. You don't linger too long on any topic for us to find it boring. But personally I think the title could be better. That video deserves more watch. I've been sending them to everyone and most agreed the title doesn't do it justice. Ok. I typed all these without even watching this Brawn video. I'm sure it'll be great. Keep doing what you're doing. I'll check your patreon later out if you have one. Thank you, Professor!

It is VERY important to recognise the contribution that the employees of Super Aguri made. As Honda were partners of both Super Aguri and (of course) Honda Racing, the team in Leafield did most of the aero work on what would become the BGP-001. Pete McCool and his team came up with the diffuser and, more importantly, how it would be integrated into the car. Super Aguri folded mainly because Nick Fry screwed them over in front of Honda management (so the story goes) - and when they were about to fold, Nick sent a load of guys from Brackley over to Leafield and took every computer system and server from the office - which contained all the info on their new car. The guys at Brackley looked at it, and saw the potential. The rest is history. So, the BGP-001 was mostly the next Super Aguri car. Of course, without the Mercedes engine, the car wouldn't have been able to reach it's potential, but that's another story. How do I know all this? I knew a load of ex-SA people, who now mainly work at Renault, Williams or Racing Point. My hometown is full of F1 people, and people talk. Oxfordshire is a small place....

According to an autosport-article it was a man called Saneyuki Minegawa who came up with it. Your Super Aguri claim is an interesting one. But if McCool and his people were so great, then why did they not create their own car for that third season, since the Honda chassis they were getting was so terrible?

What was ironic is that McLaren and Ferrari were full time manufacturers while red bull was a mere energy drink company and Brawn GP was a salvaged team on the brink of bankruptcy

for sure - that's always been one of my favorite season bc it's bookended by the most dominant performances in F1 history. Even Michael in his prime is beatable. we almost forgot that. but 2003 was proof. no excuses. he was beatable.
