i think it’s been interesting this season that butcher has been able to contact ryan by using means that matter to him. first it was through the video game and then it was through a christmas present. these things are important to ryan and butcher understands that, but more importantly, homelander doesn’t. he’d never realize these methods of communication because he doesn’t pay attention to the things that ryan finds important

Homelander pretends to care to get what he wants whether it's Ryan's love or his obedience. I do think he loves Ryan but he'll never allow himself to be fully committed or vulnerable-he doesn't even know how. Ryan had that with his mom so he knows what it looks like.

Ryan's speech and butcher getting his faith in the kid rewarded was the best part of the episode for me.

Yep, but for opposite reasons. Homelander shifted more to the right, and Ryan shifted more to the left.

The crack in Sages voice when she said "You promise you would listen to me" hurt. Between doctors not listening to her to save her grandmother to the Teenage kicks kicking her out because "she didn't know when to close her mouth". Yes she has an ego, but she always been in positions where people with larger egos could dismiss her because she knows more than them. Much like eveyone else in the show, her history keep repeating herself.

Hughie sleeping with an imposter is a callback to Queen Maeve believing she slept with Homelander but it was actually Black Noir in Homelander's costume in the comics.

MM had a Black Sheep shirt, their big hit being 'The Choice is Yours', from the album 'A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing'. Very nice touch, given the themes of the episode. I'm a hip hop nerd and there's always 'Leo DiCaprio pointing at the TV' moments for me with MM's shirt choices matching what's going on with the gang.

I was suggested Deep being stuck in a love triangle a few weeks ago.

This episode was way better than the previous two for certain the fight with the deep and noir was fun Atrain was badass and it look like the boys are finally back as a team again looking for the finale..

Not a major Easter egg but it was interesting that, after A-Train was revealed to be the leak, for the live broadcast, his puppet was replaced by the trio of Homelander, Deep, and Firecracker singing “The Propaganda Song”. (Presumably not Noir since he’s not supposed to be able to talk.)

Agreed, I think she will find out after he escapes and returns to her, then she will try to get revenge on butcher and the boys even at the cost of mutually assured destruction via being outed, so she will attempt to kill them but will die probably due to butchers virus or by homelander after he admits he knew she lied to him about Stan's prison escape. Edgar will survive and will watch over the daughter going forward.

The shapeshifters of the Boys are the shapeshifters of Supernatural. Both Eric Kripke!

Looking back, 12 episode shows in the 2010s were probably peak story driven TV imo. Daredevil's 13 episodes of season 1 are arguably amongst the best TV shows ever.

Ok, there's something I never understood about Homelander and Stan Edgar. Why would Edgar allow a weapon like Homelander to exist without a 'checkmate' in place just in case the guy went rogue? I thought that the shape-shifter having to peel its skin off to shift was very reminiscent of the shifters in the show Supernatural, which was also written by Erik Kripke

I think the shape shifter is the linchpin for Kessler to come into the world. Seeing as they clone the mind she’s gonna touch butcher and when she turns she will rip her skin off and be Kessler

I was thinking the whole scene was Hughie having a dream about Starlight in her costume

So are we saying that the shooter can not only steal your likeness, but all of your powers and memories too? This person should easily be in the seven. This is the most OP hero we've seen yet.

But man, poor Ambrosia, letting us hear her as well was cruel especially after what the Deep did to her, but what she told him was true, she was the only one to really love him, and you can see the payout when Sage is fired and Black Noir II tells her to love her, and the Deep realized that unlike with him, Sage didn't have to lobotomize herself to hook up with Noir, just the Deep collecting those Ls over and over again just like when A-Train told him he always hated him, man and that went hard, I thought he was going to tell him he was always the leak not that he hated him.

How does Hughie not realise it isnt Annie because the last time they did it her eyes lit up

Starlight complains about Butcher, and can't use her power because it's not the real Starlight. A mimic doesn't gain the powers of the person it shape shifts into.

btw the scene when A-train come to Ashley then about to leave by opening the door is really scare me for no fcking reason, HE COULD BE THERE LISTENINGG!!!

It's funnier considering the Sage reveal makes them Eskimo Brothers

So I wonder if Huey's mom was the shapeshifter and was using her likeness to infiltrate The Boys. Since it seems that the shapeshifter retains memories of the person they imitate, she would know everything about his past. It is interesting that we don't see her in this episode at all! I mean since everyone else is getting their families to safety, you think there would be a brief discussion between the two of them.

homelander dies at the end of this season and butcher is the big bad for the last season...i know its wild but just think about it....ohh and they put the poison in the bewbs for homelander to eat

The Shapeshifter here work exactly like the ones in Supernatural. Rip the skin off when changing, and a psychic link to memories of the person they’re taking place of.

The super powered person who could change their appearance reminded me of a similar “monster” from Supernatural that had a very similar ability. Since Eric Kripke wrote for both shows I felt like it could’ve been a nod to that.

the actor for MM bulked up for the role in past seasons, so this weight loss was also just him going back to his natural weight

You missed the par where deep and noir got to know about the sage and saying bro bro bro

Yea that was a funny gag/reveal that she doesn't have to lobotomize herself for other supes, just the deep, that's hilarious

The shapeshifting is just like (or copied from) in the HBO show "The Outsider" where it has to take your DNA by touch (hence the selfie with Starlight) and the transformation is very messy and long.

I feel like the shows writing has become pretty odd. Like Deep and Noir saying "bro" was just dumb

I think they were also referencing to ''junior spies'' of hitler during ww2 (the vought song) it also references the book 1984 by george orwell (its just a theory)

This is not the first time we’ve seen a shapeshifter. They had one all the way back in the first season and he was eventually used by Homelander to bring back Madeline.

On the subject of reflection as a theme in this episode Ryan also reflected his father when he flipped the script. He used the same tactic to stop Ashley from going to commercial. Only he asked nicely instead of threatening.

The shapeshifter reminds me of the skinwalker in Supernatural

Thank you for calling out Annie's mom, Homelander may be the main villain but Ms. January is the Umbrige of this story. Personally I think she needs to be called out by Annie for how her mother has used her for her entire life, this leading to Annie never really having her own identity and why she hurt Firecracker in the way she did. My fanfiction is that Annie tells her mom off and then reunites with her dad.....then Annie's dad and Hughie's mom hit it off and we get this weird yet wholesome family unit develop

I dont know if anyone ever caught this but when A-Train speeds off after trying to get Ashley to run away with him, his speed sound effect didnt resemble a train anymore.
