Deep Finishes his own Octopus!! But Why?

Ойын-сауық

In "The Boys" Season 4, the storyline involving Deep and his octopus takes a dark and disturbing turn. The writers use this plotline to delve deeper into Deep's character, exploring his vulnerabilities, traumas, and the consequences of his actions.
Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Boys Season 4
The octopus, given to Deep by Homelander as a twisted form of punishment and humiliation, becomes a symbol of Deep's deepest fears and insecurities. Initially, Deep is disgusted and repulsed by the creature, reflecting his own self-loathing and feelings of worthlessness.
However, as the season progresses, Deep develops a strange and unsettling bond with the octopus. He starts seeing it as a reflection of his own isolation and ostracization from society. The octopus becomes his only companion, a confidante to whom he can express his darkest thoughts and desires.
This unhealthy attachment leads Deep down a path of self-destruction. In a shocking and disturbing scene, he consumes the octopus, seemingly as a desperate attempt to internalize its perceived strength and resilience. This act can be interpreted as a metaphor for Deep's complete surrender to his inner demons, consuming him entirely.
The writers use this shocking plotline to expose the depths of Deep's depravity and the extent of his mental instability. It serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of unchecked trauma and the destructive power of self-loathing.
The octopus plotline also raises questions about the ethics of using animals for entertainment and exploitation. The Boys, known for its satirical commentary on superhero culture and societal issues, uses this storyline to critique the objectification and abuse of animals in popular media.
Overall, Deep's consumption of the octopus is a pivotal moment in The Boys Season 4. It serves as a catalyst for his further descent into darkness and ultimately leads to his downfall. The shocking nature of this act ensures that it will be a memorable and controversial moment in the series.

  • @bananatiergod

I really like how they took A-Train and Deep and made them both mirrors of each other: Neither of them are taken seriously in the Seven, they're both egotistical jerks with a touch of a moral crisis, and both are holding on to Homelander's approval to find a purpose. The difference is that A-Train was an ass, but he also slowly (and I mean veeeery slowly) learned from his mistakes when the people in his life tore him to shreds about it, and he realized how much he lost in order to get better. The Deep was a spineless sleaze from the beginning, who had no one to moderate his ego and cruelty and always took the easy way to redemption. That's why he ends up becoming even worse while A-Train begins to become a genuine hero.

I was hoping for a Deep redemption of *some* kind, but nah, there is NO coming back from this. This is by a wide margin the darkest deed The Deep has ever commited. The Octopus genuinely cared about him and was trying to make him realise what I think he alredy knows at heart about Sage, but he didn't want to accept. And if she really is dead, an octopus can survive for almost 24 hours out of the water, then Deep deserves a very *painful* end
