@ Liam- It was not ever a United Political Unit before 1171 . There is a certain view that it had a High King ( ask any Irishman to name one other than Brain Boru and expect a long silence) it part of the reason ( the main one in fact ) it was under the influence of outside powers was because of internal division . the only time in recorded history that the Whole Island was united under as one political unit in reality rather than just theory was between 1801 and 1922 . That was in fact ended by the British governance of Ireland act ,rather than the Irish , but in fact the Brits would not have passed the act if two sets of Irishmen were not just about to start killing each other in large numbers .

EU: We already discussed this in detail: It's either a pony or nothing. UK: We vote against your pony. EU: Alright. Nothing it is. UK: We vote against your nothing. EU:...you really don't get it, do you? UK: We need more time to think about it. EU: About the pony or about the nothing? UK: We want a unicorn.

There’s been so many conflicts in Ireland it’s hard to keep track. The Easter rising, the Irish war for independence, the Irish civil war, the troubles. I have a friend who’s Irish and these conflicts were like his life, and his history. He does get nervous about some aspects of it, like the red hand symbol, & the IRA. He actually talked about the British doing some racial profiling of his family because they were Irish. Then September 11 happened and they started profiling another group. It’s honestly hard to imagine that such violence occurred in a country that is part of the first world. Great video as always dude!

Whatever happens, I hope that you are not personally affected too much, and that Brexit isn't absolutely detrimental to the economies of the UK and Ireland. Regardless, I will continue to support your channel for the incredible educational content it provides, as I learn something new from each one. :)

Honestly believe that the peasants are always forgotten in the end. Both sides forget that the common man just wants life to be as easy as possible. Couldnt imagine living in a place where all of a sudden a hard border is placed up. The likes of which Ireland and even Germany/Korea has seen. Whilst Germany/korea are extremist versions of this situation, going from one place to another within youre own shared "homeland" and having to be questioned every step of the way would instill rebellion in anyone after a while.

UK and RoI citizens were free to live and work in each other’s state and they shared a free trade deal before they were in the EU. The RoI’s problem now is that it can not have a trade deal it wants with the UK or ANY state because the RoI is in the EU.

( I will not say here in the UK, because we are not united, Many Scottish voters want full independence & it’s hardly surprising & with the Westminster government refusing even to talk about the issue in the hope it will go away the more proud Scots will shout for independence & to remain in the EU. Has Boris & his crew learnt nothing from our history, from Irish history!?) what a mess.

I loved the European family bit. Good luck from Spain! 🇪🇺 Btw: there is also the Gibraltar-Spain border.

@What what If you want to to know the real reason behind the EU look into Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi a Freemason. He started the Paneuropean Union which is the beginning of the EU. Look into his book I recommend starting with Practical Idealism: The Kalergi Plan to destroy European peoples. You will understand why the EU allows mass inv*sion.

Noticed that too. It was genocide. It's amazing how many people in Ireland (and my home of Boston) talk about the potato famine without calling it genocide.

@@Worldschooler To call it genocide isn't exactly accurate - yes, at first glance it can seem like it, and many factors do point to it to the point that many Irish historians have argued quite a bit about this, but frankly "mismanagement" or "neglect" are weirdly the best descriptors, especially due to a mixture of ultra-liberal economic policies (not in the wanky US sense, more as in neo-liberal) and anti-Irish sentiment at the time.
