The "only choose one" scenario isn't Luke trying to impose on Grogu. It is to make Grogu decide What life he wants to lead. Both, the ways of the Jedi and the ways of the Mandalorian are life style and life long ideals that take total dedication. Even Yoda was still learning about the ways of the force hundreds of years after becoming a Master Jedi. Luke knows that he can't make Grogu a Jedi if he has the heart of a Mandalorian, and he knows it must be Grogu's choice.

As far as we know there was only one Jedi who managed to balance both. He was a Jedi but also very much Mandalorian. That Jedi was the first wielder of the darksaber, last name was Vizla As far as we know, in both canon and legends we've never had a Mandalorian Jedi before or since then

Grogu was so attached to Mando, that´s why Luke told him to choose. The Jedi path forbids the attachment.

Yeah even if I disagree with it, Luke and Ahsoka are following the code and it insists that attachment leads to fear, anger, hate, and suffering if you use the Yoda argument. Keep in mind that the Fen Rau explanation has the Mando in armour but there is no reason he would have because likely he was a baby (unless the rules were different in the longer past). The Visla's stole the sword from the Jedi temple so the Jedi Visla likely never went back to Mandalore. That is more a Mandalorian tradition. Personally it is sort of sad that this is my favourite episode of Boba Fett but honestly they gave us so much Luke I really do not care.

"Only a Sith deals in absolutes" - Obi-Wan Kenobi (to Anakin Skywalker). "You must choose!" - Palpatine (to Anakin Skywalker) "So much like your father." - Ahsoka (to Luke Skywalker) All of these things are connected. Think about it... it was the blind arrogance of the Jedi Order that caused their fall 30 years (or so) before this scene. While I understand Luke's intention, to find out if Grogu could overcome his attachment... was this REALLY a good idea to force him to choose? We've seen Grogu use "dark side abilities" before... and while we've been told (through other media) that none of the species has ever turned to the Dark Side.... could we be seeing the beginning of the first time it happens? Or was this choice simply setting up for Grogu to not be at the temple when Kylo Ren wipes it out?

This is inaccurate according to the way Luke sees things. He gave Grogu a choice because of 2 reasons. Not simply because of attachment. 1 was to test to see if grogu was thirsty for power and 2 because grogu is young and Din Jarrin is middle aged and will be dead in a very short time vs grogus aging process. This tested his love and loyalty towards a father figure which Luke so horribly failed with Owen Lars and surely regrets. Luke knows when Din dies grogu can resume training and will have only aged a couple of years according to his species lifespan.

Disney have done great things with Star Wars, ignoring the 9th movie. One of my favourite things is that they're very big on pointing out the flaws of the Jedi. High Republic is peak Jedi Order, Last Jedi pointed out all the issues fans had with the Prequel Jedi, they've explored Dooku's issues with them. I've got pretty high hopes for the Rey movie they're making.

If I remember correctly, Tarre Vizsla didn't walk the Mandalorian path. He was a Jedi with Mandalorian blood, but he didn't walk the Way. It was his descendants/fellow Vizslas who stole the Darksaber and co-opted it into Mandalorian traditions. So, from a certain point of view, there had never been anyone who followed both the way of the Jedi and the Way of the Mandalore.

@11:10 Twilight?! It should've reminded you of The Empire Strikes Back. When Luke is training with Yoda, carrying Yoda on his back, running through the swamp, lifting things, flipping over rocks, etc... This whole training sequence is one big nod to Empire. "Don't try. Do" is a reference to what Yoda tells Luke. "Try not. Do or do not. There is no try."

Luke is following the "attachment rule" because of Vader, probably. It was because of attachment that Anakin went to the Dark Side. Seen Cad Bane in live action for the first time was really damn cool. When it comes to this show, that might be my favorite episode, which is weird because Boba Fett barely appears in it.

It was because he wasn't allowed attachments. If the Jedi hadn't been so against it, he could have shared with them his fear that Padme would die. Although her death was only an image put there by Palpatine, it wouldn't have been planted because Anakin would have been able to discuss things with the Jedi about his fears.

Differing philosophies. The Jedi order is a monastic order, where possessions and family connections weigh you down. The Force is all you need, and your objective is to become one with the Force. To the Mandalorian, it is the opposite. Strength comes from loyalty to family, and they are defined by their skill in use of their possessions. The Beskar steel is a metaphor - overcoming adversity makes you stronger just like steel becomes stronger under the hammer and in the fire.

It's amazing to me the ease and relaxed way younger fans react to seeing Luke. To people who grew up with only the Original Trilogy, and were basically adults for the rest of the movies and shows, seeing Luke young again was a freak out moment. Some fans cried, others cheered, but his appearance was nearly universally moving. Given the time we are in, that's just remarkable. This is the Luke we wanted to see ever since the end of ROTJ, a powerful and wise jedi master who was the hero we all looked up to as kids. No matter what happens... Filoni and company gave us this, and I think I speak for a lot of fans who will be forever grateful for this episode.

@@ahmedal-somail4657Not to mention because of 1 Jedi, Anakin chose to let millions or even billions of people around the galaxy to suffer. Several planets under the Empire. He condemned many worlds & allowed many to suffer including the Clones who served them before being decommissioned. All those lives died in vain, all for what they thought was right… He robbed so many lives of others including those who were born during the Empire’s time for his own because of his attachment. The Emperor & his so called Empire had reformed the education of other planets. Because the Emperor won, after the Clone Wars, they wrote their own truth in history making them the so called peacekeepers (good guys) & the Jedi the enemy to the public. Overall, Anakin, selfishly chose his life above others. All paid the price & none of them had to if he hadn’t intervened Mace Windu. Also if Qui-Gon didn’t die. Imagine those who weren’t born during the Clone Wars. The Empire is the world you live in. Because they rule, many would think the Empire is good to ensure peace & stability. Being born & told those lies all your life sucks. Just kids being told & reading books in their schools that the Jedi were evil as they tried to overthrow their way of life.

5:17 Luke looks better in this one for many reasons. One it didn’t have to be a secret anymore they brought Luke back and another thing they brought in some other designers as well as using more designers. That’s the problem with surprising people with a character cause you don’t want a lot of people working on it so there’s less chance of leaks. 6:31 Id love to see Grogu’s digestive system. To be able to eat an animal whole that’s close to your full size. 7:15 Luke is using the force to help Grogu keep up with him. You could see Luke use his hand making the motion to move Grogu forward. 17:36 he’s older than Boba Fett by probably 15year at least. 19:02 yeah you did in the episode that showed Boba stopping their train and had them in the sand talking. 19:44 that’s called chain mail made of Beskar so he’d be protected. 20:12 cause choosing both will give into attachments that the Jedi don’t believe in. The armor will always make him think of Mando. 21:53 they have to follow the Jedi teachings. It’s all black and white with no gray area.

It was concurrent with Order 66 and often mixed into it. First Cad Bane reappears in The Bad Batch for the first time in years, and then he makes his live action debut here. Cad Bane is assigned a birth year of 62 BBY by Wookiepedia. That makes him 71 at the time of this episode. He'd have been in his very late 30s during the Clone Wars. and his very late 50s during the time of "Star Wars: Rebels". Yes, you've seen a Pyke without their helmet, back when Boba met with the Pykes to try to collect their fee for using the Sand People's territory. Amazing episode. My only wish was to have seen a longer dialog between Luke and Ahsoka. She'd be like kin to him. You're quite right, though, to wish for more Boba Fett. I kind of wish they'd have assigned the war council dialog of Fennic to Boba. I really like Fennic, but this is Boba's show. I also agree regarding the potential for Grogu to become the second great Mando-Jedi.

Jedi have the ability to view possible futures. They fear losing those they are attached to and it clouds their mind. So much so that they panic when they invision their death. (Anakin with his mother and padme) Jedi are not only powerful in the force but are powerful emotionally as well. This is why they can not be attached. So Grogu must choose. The cool thing is that Luke gave him a choice. The old Jedi Counsil would not have.

Actually, the only Mandalorian to be a also a Jedi was Tarre Vizla (the one who created the darksaber) so it's not a common combination - on the contrary, it's unique. And since then, Mandalorians and Jedi have been well distinct, also given the clashing ideals. I believe it's only fair, while sad, that Luke gives that choice to Grogu, explaining exactly what would mean to take one or another way.

The Jedi way of shedding all attachment is dysfunctional from the roots. It was this detachment that kept Anakin from being able to return to his mother for a decade. It was also Jedi detachment that forced Anakin's love affair with Padme to remain secretive. The Jedi Order was detached from reality and cloistered in tradition and archaic philosophy. The fact that Luke is rebuilding the dysfunction back into the New Jedi Order condemns it to the same fate as the old.

Too nervous about making a new Darth Vader.

Attachments usually lead to negative emotions which in turn can used to temt jedi to the darkside. Anakin is a prime example. Attached to his mom and padme, and his feelings were manipulated and tempted him towards the darkside. Now not every jedi with attachments go dark, and not every ideal jedi stays with the light, but it make sense that eliminating one source that can lead to the darkside can help minimize jedi from turning. Plus with all the emphasis on attachment for Grogu, if they did what you wanted then we would probably be seeing a Drath Grogu in a future show/movie. Lolololol

I think luke following the jedis rule on attachments is complicated. On the one hand he is trying to brimg the jedi back and what he knows is somewhat limited. Though having ahsoka there certainly helps fill some gaps. Seeing that attachment is what caised anakon to fall probably colors his perception of it, but also attachment brought Vader back at the end. There are merits to the ways Jedi did things. There is clearly some room for improvement since what they did lead to the order falling in the first place.

Mandalorian or Jedi? You cant ride 2 horses with one butt... That being said... I think Grogu is the "Chosen One" to bring "Bring balance" between the Mandalorian and the Jedi... I don't think he can reach the full potential of his destiny without being both...

Being force sensitive and receiving training to be a force user in SW is difficult to compare with anything in our existence. Imagine if there were a few dozen people (on planet Earth) who were powerful force users and how precarious that could be for all of humanity. There would be so many people/organizations whose entire strategy for success would be centered around manipulating the emotions, desires, and fears of force users. I think the temptation is to think of it as strictly an individual's philosophical or theological debate. For instance, can a military person rationalize fighting for a nation and also be a Buddhist or Christian or whatever religion? But, the sheer amount of superhuman abilities force users have, makes it a far different existential problem for all of humanity and not just what the individual is able to rationalize for themselves.

Luke is making Grogu choose because, as Din said, the two ideologies are fundamentally opposed to one another. Now, that being said, this is a mistake on Luke's part. Clinging to the old Jedi ways that gave rise to Darth Vader.

Sry to repeat. This is in one of the replied comments. I just want to share my personal thoughts on this for everyone to understand my perspective. While the no attachment” rule sucks, I can’t disagree. Hate it actually. Remember, because of 1 Jedi, Anakin chose to let millions or even billions of people around the galaxy to suffer. Also, “but Luke’s attachment brought Anakin back”, ok… so how many already paid the price before Luke did, Anakin came back to the light & everyone else? Imagine those who weren’t born during the Clone Wars. The Empire is the world you live in. Because they rule, many would think the Empire is good to ensure peace & stability. Being born & told those lies all your life sucks. Just kids being told & reading books in their schools that the Jedi were evil as they tried to overthrow their way of life.

Ahsoka, Luke, both part of the problem at this point. Trying to keep an out of date way of thinking intact. The Jedi were wrong about so many things and old Luke was wise enough to see it in TLJ Shame Disney keeps promoting the Jedi order as the good guys

Actually, between The Mandalorian 2x8 and Boba Fett 1x6, two years passed according to Favreau and Filoni. Luke saw the same conflict Ahsoka saw. And both know what happened to Anakin. So Luke as a teacher had to make sure that Grogu's heart is fully open for the Jedi way.

Thanks, Emme! 🎋 The Jedi tradition of non-attachment doesn't seem workable... but there's historical basis for it. Kind of like the same reason surgeons aren't allowed to operate on family members. Emotions can cloud judgements. But I think, sometimes, they can also clarify. Perhaps sequel trilogy Jedi will find a better way? #EmmeReacts #StarWars #TheBookOfBobaFett #CobbVanth #Grogu #AhsokaTano #LukeSkywalker #CadBane

Yeah I didn't care for the whole choose a path thing for grogu. I get the old jedi way was all about attachments being dangerous but Luke proved that to be false in the og trilogy. He chose his friends and the path of the jedi and ultimately used his attachment to his father to bring him back from the dark side. I don't understand why they would change his character and make him follow the path of the previously failed jedi order

Why can't Grogu be both? That upsets me too. I get why Luke and Asoka, both having dealt with Anakin to Vader, believe that attachment is a problem. But I personally feel that's placing the problem in the wrong spot. Anakin, or anybody, could have been manipulated in other ways. There are many Sith that were turned for other reasons in Star Wars lore. This runs down the same path as Stick's philosophy in Daredevil as well. If you love something, it only gets in the way and keeps you from becoming who you should be. I believe Stick was wrong and DD was right in that one too. It doesn't specify it in the films, but in other sources, not all canonical so treat this as conjecture, the reason Qui Gon was not on the council is because he believed the Jedi were wrong on this point and attachment in love was a good thing. Oh well. It is what it is and I don't get mad at Luke or Asoka for doing what they believe to be the right thing even if I think it's messed up. Keep having fun. I love that you have the same wide-eyed wonder that I had with these.

Only reason Grogu had to choose is because Disney butchered Luke's character so much... In the original timeline, his first students came from all kinds of backgrounds, cultures, species, familial status, ages... and attachment was actively encouraged. You could be a Jedi, and still have a family. Love is Light. It only becomes darkness when, like darkness itself, it consumes you - if there is nothing left of you when you lose your attachments, then shall you fall. But recognise them for what they are, and they will be a great source of strength. Original timeline Luke recognised this, and made it the foundation of his New Jedi Order, realising the failings of the Jedi of the "Golden Age". Disney Luke, however, falls into all the same traps as the Masters of old.

20:17 sadly, Luke is repeating the mistakes of his masters. He believes attachments are to be avoided. What should be taught instead is how to deal with loss healthily. There is no good reason to make Grogu choose other than it’s the Jedi way.

That style of armour is called chainmail. *Spoilers* Very disappointed with how they handled Luke here, he was originally supposed to be doing things differently from the Jedi (it was his compassion for his father that redeemed him after all) but instead they've had him make the same mistakes just so he can fail for the sequels.

Compassion is not against the jedi code. In fact, it's an essencial characteristic that is valued by them, like its pointed out by the conversation between Ahsoka and Aayla Secura during TCW. But *personal* attachments are what they are against, as it tends to be valued more than the greater good, which is (or at least should be) the purpose of the Jedi as keepers of the peace. That's one of the reasons why Yoda gave Anakin a padawan, as he needed to learn to let go. Not saying that I agree with their reasoning, but that that's how I see their views on attachments.

This is my own understanding of the jedi, so don't take it as canon, more like interpretation. Jedi was never against a jedi having a family. What it was against was having attachement to the family. In both legends and Canon Ki-Adi Mundi, member of the jedi council, had a family. He was of a race that had problem with getting male members. On average, 1 in 10 children was male. Therfor, for the surviveability of his race, it was costums for a male to have multiple wifes and as many children as possible. If I remember correctly, Ki-Adi has 4 wifes and 8 kids. All 8 were females. In the situation of saving your family and letting 50 other people die, or saving 50 people and letting your family die. The Jedi should always save the 50 people. The Jedi should do the best thing for the galaxy as a whole. Even if that meant letting yourself die. This was lost, and after years and years turning into the police force of the senate, which lead to their own destruction. In legends, Luke later lessened in this hard rules against relationships. Himself got married and had a son. This is no longer canon, but we will find out in the future if aspects of this will be turned into canon again.
