I love The Birthday Party, the perfect amalgam of all the things that made The Stooges, PIL and Joy Division great.

PIL, Stooges & Joy Div are very different bands. What they have in common is that they were authentic and they put theirs inners out there

WOW!! Love this! I thought this would be the These immortal souls song of the same name!! Boy was I wrong, this is a gloomy rendition but I honestly love it. It's cool to see the bare bones of what Rowland would use in the future for these immortal souls. I feel like everything Rowland touched in his life time it turned into gold. He was such a talent.

Is this a joke? The Birthday Party are no "pre-band" of *anyone!* They ARE the band! All those related bands that came after are poor substitues in comparison.

Hands up who wants to die? This is one of my favourite Birthday Party tunes. 3 years to the day I think tribute to Rowland S H by his brother, playing his material. Nick Cave sang Shivers. Wonderful. Those Peel sessions.

This and the These Immortal Souls version mustn't be the same..Isn't this Nick singing anyways? Correct me if i'm wrong but this sounds like an entirely different song altogether.

I think the These Immortal Souls version is built upon the ending part of this song. Sounds like him singing that part also. Please say hi if you see this, 10 years later. :D

itootszalot: Nick makes me drool, too. Nick *and* Rowland S. Howard, both. So many of the Birthday Party's songs are pure sex: "She's Hit" (nasty loveless sex), "Dead Joe" (death-sex), "Wildworld" ( *especially* "Wildworld": kzread.info/dash/bejne/nJV3ppZ_Y6i1aZc.html)...Aaah, the eros/thanatos blues.
