Hey! This is a brand new series we are trying out: short videos breaking down some data with a bit of context. Let us know what you think about it in terms of content, visuals, etc. We're all ears!
@ThaFedejp

The info is great, but you should really try to explore vertical format, 90s, Shorts, reels, tick tocks, etc. Since IDK if this kind of videos will go well with the all mighty algorithm and your usual content. Maybe create a shorts channel like Marques or Linus? Just an opinion, though. Always loved your insights into the industry :)

I disagree with other commentators about short form. The point of your channel as far as I understand it is to provide insight into complex issues and simplify them. Simplification, ironically, requires time and effort. Short form videos would dumb down the content too much. That said, I think this video hits the right balance between brievity and analysis. I would be okay with this form factor as a viewer IF it meant more frequent posts. If it hurts your regular videos' publication, then I think your regular content is better.

One reason I can think of for Apple's lesser acquisitions as compared to others is that due to its closed ecosystem, it is challenging to accommodate and integrate new companies within. The other reason might be that they don't disclose all their acquisitions.

Apple's approach is to make a planned decision and then stick to it till its end whatever it takes while as Google and some other tech giants way is to throw lots of darts at the board and see which one sticks

Polymatter actually made a decent video explaining this, especially its biggest factor: Culture. As someone who does internal comms, its usually not easy to keep everyone involved and accepting to changing from older systems to newer ones. Especially engineers, product developers and programmers.
2006 : Google bought KZread for $1.65 billion. 2021 : KZread generates $1.65 billion revenue in every 3 weeks. 2012 : Facebook bought Instagram for $1 billion 2021 : Instagram's estimated worth $600 billion
The reason why Google spend 12b on Motorola is not only that they needed patent but they also wanted to showcase their software i.e Android since it wasn't that popular in many market's. Taking about India Motorola made a huge impact with g, e series smartphones which actually paved path for their future. Also it's worth noting that Google had clean Android version in moto as compared to samsung which had every single copy of default Google application so ultimately it made people love stock Android which we can see benifited one plus, moto as well as pixel in the future. So I personally think it was a huge success for Google not economically but strategically.

I see a big decline in Android. Using it since 2010, I will switch to an iPhone 14 this Fall. I am fed up with Android. All those bugs and issues with completely different devices I had... I wish there were more phone OS alternatives.
I really liked this video! I hope to get more in this format! Now that acquisitions are trending I would love to see a video in this same format about failed acquisition, like the NVidia/ARM, Microsoft/TikTok and Microsoft/Discord Continue your awesome work!
It is incredibly refreshing to have a series that dives right into the information. Just a few seconds of a splash screen and you're in! No sponsor spot, no dragged out introduction. Fantastic!
I absolutely enjoyed this style. I hope you guys will be able keep this quality up in the next episodes as well. ✌️

I’m still surprised how people still say “it’s a usual thing” about Microsoft’s ActiBlizz acquisition. It’s almost literally the biggest deal in history ever. $68.7b!
@Skullet
2 жыл бұрын
Back in 1999 Vodafone Airtouch Plc bought Mannesmann for $183 billion, in 2000 AOL bought Time Warner for $182 billion, there's at least 30 aquisitions that cost more than $68.7 billion, this decade alone there's at least two aquisitions that cost more than $68.7 billion and we're only 2 years into the decade.

Another tech company well known for large acquisitions is Intel. For example, it acquired Mobileye for $15 billion, and Habana Labs for $2 billion. Also Nvidia recently acquired Mellanox for over $7 billion.

wow super interesting. without considering the blizzard deal i would have bet on facebook for most acquisitions, since they seem to buy 5 VR companys every week, but i guess those are not as big, amazing how apple got their value back 10fold from their acqusitions

Seems that Google and Microsoft have lots of cash lying around and just want to spend it someway instead of letting it sit

They are mostly innovative companies and always tries new things so it is not surprising. It is good for tech world. If all companies sitted like Apple with doing nothing but releasing same thing every year, the tech wasn't been that far from 2010 today.

@@metinhesenov Microsoft bought nokia and Skype and did nothing with it. Google also bought Fitbit and is doing nothing with it don't know how many companies Google has bought and closed Yes they are innovative but their innovation is done by throwing cash at lot of companies and seeing which one sticks their way of innovation is done by money not by them which suggests that they have lot of cash sitting around to behave like that
@metinhesenov
2 жыл бұрын
@@OmDahake compared to how many companies Microsoft bought just 2 being not successful is still great number despite Microsoft really invested hard on both Nokia and Skype so "they did nothing" statement is wrong. They are the company at the end and need to make money. They invest hard but there is a limit you can do without a profit. Billions of investment and not a profit so you just give up on the project. Skype is still alive even so Microsoft isn't investing as much as they do to Teams. Skype is still one of the most used video communication apps thanks to tye pandemic. It is in top 3 in most of the countries.

@@metinhesenov My say here is that because they have so much cash loosing some doesn't matter to them so when they acquire a company they don't put their 100% in that cause even if it does fail not that much would happen to them so many of them fail because they didn't put the time and effort they needed imagine them like a rich kid with lots of toys so even if one breaks they don't care as there are only a few that actually matters to them
I think you missed Dell & EMC2
My guess would be Tencent? let's see the video . i was wrong ...
Keep in mind these are all public aquisitions, companies like Facebook have silently aquired many companies, and yes, in the US, this is legal.

2:28 that wasn't a fail they bought it to destroy Samsung when they were switching to their own OS

Companies buy products they think can benefit them, that is why apple's acquisitions are less compared to others
I appreciate you not using Meta

I mean, technically the term "FANG/FAANG", and most of the acquisitions came before Facebook turned into Meta, so it makes sense to just call them by Facebook, in this context.
atleast, with those gaming acquisitions, their Embrace, Extend & Extinguish practices isn't applicable (or ideal),
What about Samsung?
tbh, Microsoft should buy Splunk. I'd be more than fine with it than Cisco buying Splunk for $20B, jfc.
Based on this video, Apple is the smartest with money matters when it comes to acquisitions ✌
