Hi Jarrod. Typing this off my latest lenova legion pro 5 I with intel i7 rtx 4060 1 tb and 32 gb ram that you got me to buy off of b and h for a decent price. Watch so many of your videos before choosing this one. Thank you so much. Best laptop ever!
Hey Jarrod ! Great video ! I am not a fan of this laptop line, but I wanted to thank you for all the content you are making for us here on this channel ! Now let me take this opportunity to tell you what I would like to hear about in one of your next videos : a "big" SSDs guide & comparison - especially naming the "single-sided" ones. Many laptops allow to install only these and we all have really hard time to find out which SSDs are actually "single-sided". You would help a lot of people by making this video ... or it would help me at least 🙂 🙂 🙂 Greetings from Czechia (the opposite side of the Globe as you know it).

What I don't like about Lenovo's Legion nowadays is the lack of display options in the high end and the downgrade of the 5 Pro meaning that Lenovo won't be my next option, sadly bc I enjoy their 5 Pro 5000,
@MyRealName
Ай бұрын
The downgrade of the 5 pro becomes irrelevant the moment you start comparing it to the competition that's on the market at the same time. It's usually at the top or near the top of the best value for money list, whatever it's called.

@JarrodsTech which cooling pad did you use in this test ?
Jarrod, I think I figured out the heating on the cooling pad. The back of a cooling pad is the most open and with all the hot air moving out the back of the legion 5 it's just pulling in heated air. I found with my cooling pad if I lift the front a little off the ground, maybe a centimeter, then it improves cooling but I also have the LOQ 15IRH8 4060 which has side and back venting.
Love your videos! I can literally sit back and watch every video you upload because of how informative they are and entertaining as well. Quick question: I'm looking for a 17/18 inch gaming laptop, do you have any recommendations? (Ideally 4060 but if there is none I can consider 3080/3080ti as well. Battery doesn't matter as I will be using it while charging, I don't want fans to be super loud like Acer Predator but otherwise I don't really care if they are little loud just not like an airplane :D and finally I want it to be built well so it can last for years to come, I consider second hand laptops as well from Ebay, my budget is $1200) I'll really appreciate if you can recommend something!
First impression after a few minutes looking at it: i really like it. It doesn't scream gamer kiddy but isn't overly stealthy with those bad black finishes like razer uses, that are more smudge than black afte rhandling it. It's also nice that they put two of the major connectors in the back. HDMI and Charger cables are a pain and it's great not having them in the mouse zones. The two things i'd point out as "ehh" is the location of the ports, being all bunched towards the user and the RJ45 not being in the rear.
Hi @JarrodsTech ! Wonderful video as always. Does it matter choosing i9 over i7 for gaming performance ? My assumption is if cpu draws more tgp from total it leaves less window for gpu tgp. Is this correct ? Please let me know
Hey Jarrod, How does it compare to Legion Pro 5 and the 7i?
Hey jarrod can you try doing a review on MSI katana a 15? Need your thoughts on this one
Will go with the slim just for the ports placement.
would you recommend getting a cooling pad for 2023 Legion Slim 5i? or does the existing cooling tech work fine
Hey jarrod should I wait for zen 5 laptop or buy legion slim 5 2023/24.
does customizable legion has any issues with warranty or build quality or the parts used inside it are old ?
Legion LOQ and Legion 5i and 7i comes with 170w and 230w chargers which aren’t sufficient to provide enough power…300w charger aren’t expensive..I got one as replacement and the cost was around 40 dollars …but they sell it higher cost on their website

Hey Gang. Big fan of this channel. Why the heck is quiet mode so much louder than last years legion 5i though? Is it these new CPUS?
Do you plan to also have a video for the maxed out Legion pro 5i with i9 14900HX and 4070? I wish you could show the FPS in CS2 as well :)
3:40 lots of people these days(if not most) prefer using wireless mice, keyboards and controllers. It's a laptop, so it's made to be carried around often. I personally don't want to plug and unplug stuff all the time, with wireless, it can stay in there and just work all the time without any inconvenience.
really wish for a review of the slim 5, especially to see if the new chip has a better battery management (since the chip and gpu make the 2023 and 2024 version so similar, I believe it's also veey useful to point out on video if it'd really be worth going for the newest one)
Is a dedicated review for the slim 5i from this year coming? It’s been very cheap on Lenovos website recently
Ive had my legion 5 pro 3070 5800h for a few years now, got it from Wal-Mart for 1200. Ive had 0 complaints. Its spent its whole life plugged in on a raised stand with conservation turned on. Its spent endless hours playing cod, fortnight, beam, battlebit, and and battlefield..... If I had one nit pick it would be that my fans have clogged up pretty good. Thats probably on me though for not cleaning it often...... Also I did upgrade the ram
jarrod you ended my edge streak omagawh
I had to change my old Asus ROG laptop and this Lenovo Legion 5 had some discounts in my EU country (around 1400 EUR for 14900HX, RTX 4070, 32Gb ram and 1TB SSD); I was thinking to buy this one, but I wanted something more future proof and in the end I chose an also discounted Acer Predator Helios PH16-72 with 14900HX, RTX4080, mini LED display 250Hz, 32GB ram, 2TB raid ssd, clickable microsd, per key RGB (2400 EUR).
Eluktronics' MAX-15 has a 2024 version now. Would you be able to do a comparison between that laptop and Legion 5i? Appreciate your work!
I got the LOQ 15IRH8 i7 RTX4060 1TB and its really decent in terms of performance but battery just isn't great. Do you know if the 80Wh will fit in as it comes with the 60Wh, it is said to have enough space for a bigger battery but not sure if enough?
Yes i need thid review Thank Jarod tech i was already planning on getting the Laptop before this video came out But since this video came out before i got it ill know The pros and Cons Now this video was helpful
Jarrod the asus zephyrus m16 2023 with 4070 is on sale for $1499. What’s the overall better laptop, that or the white Lenovo legion 7i you reviewed that’s $2000?
I got a Legion 5 just a few months before the pandemic. The power supply died and replace 3 times, the screen started having green horizontal lines and I replaced it, the left half of the keyboard died and i had to use an external, all within the first year. It started thermal throttling badly even after cleaning it and eventually it burnt out and wouldn't turn on. I got a new laptop and checked the old ssd, it logged almost 2 years of on time before death. Don't know if they updated the design but it doesn't handle heat very well, the logos and windows sticker all completely faded within the first month and it didn't even have a way to control fan speed.
PLEASE do a review on the Legion Slim 5 AMD Gen 9 with 350 nit screen!!
80W-85W on the CPU with 100W power draw by the GPU is impressive stuff and it's interesting to see this 14700HX implementation beating CPUs that should theoretically perform better. 19:20 Hell yeah new 3D Mark benchmark added. :)

@@huyle9635 I use it to play games and Autocad. Running Autocad super smooth so it can handle extreme work loads. Pretty much maxes out every game also. My main issue is that the Balanced mode already sounds like an airplane taking off, so I play on quiet. Wonder if it is possible to tune the custom mode so that the performance is close to balanced but the fans stay like quiet (maybe by allowing to gpu and cpu run a bit hotter within reasonable margin).
Hey Jarrod, I just bought it from their website with i7 14650hx, RTX 4060. 32GB Ram configuration and I will use it for architecture school, so I will be frequently using 3D rendering software like Lumion and Sketchup and some AAA games during breaks. It is hot in our country and we do not have AC in our school to improve the ambient temperature, do you think it will hold out given these circumstances during heavy tasks? What are the best solutions to help it regulate a tolerable temp as you said that cooling pads doesn't help with their new cooling system?

I am thinking about buying the AMD version. Do you think it will be a good option?
for best overall performance when plugged in on the AC power, is it better to set your power mode in the middle to "better performance" (letting the cpu auto adjust its frequency and voltage based on heat and computational requirements) rather than to the left on "best performance"(that sets cpu at max voltage and max frequency all the time but generating more heat and therefore causing more throttling down as a cpu is never at 100% all the time, waiting for ram or gpu) ? thanks
Ethernet with all the USB-A ports on the right side is a deal-breaker for me. I would rather have air vents on the side with most of the ports on the back like it used to be.

So cooling pad won't work on this one? Is it the same with slim? That is kinda big deal breaker, I feel like it will be throttling sonner or later

What I'm not liking about Lenovo is that their design for the 5i Pro is not really improving by that much each year. Sure, the hardware changes, but if you look to a 2021 5 pro, and then the ones from the 3 years, it really just changes internally aside from the logo on the lid. Like, keyboard layout is the same, the 16:10 aspect ratio 2k screen has been the same or similar enough, the backlight is the same with the 4 zones. Considering the fact a 3070ti is extremely similar to a 4070, and the 2022 laptop can be found for like half the price if not less, I don't really see the reason to upgrade from an older model unless you really need the CPU upgrade

Knowing Legion lineup I assume the 140w charging through Type-C is only with Lenovo 140w GaN charger , and only 100w if using non Lenovo GaN charger. This kinda info is important to mention if true, so unsavvy people won't be misleaded
It can be argued micro SD is today so common it will target more people than what a full-sized card slot would do. For those in need of a full-sized card reader a USB variant are really easy to find.
