Is the damndest thing that I get a large following of people who tell me I did all these things and it didn't come out correct but all these things are shit I don't do like the only thing they did or had the same similarities with what I'm doing is that they did it to a headlight...lol And I'm like dude what does that have to do with anything on this channel what you're doing is a whole another thing...lol It drives me crazy but it is what it is...lol Thankful for their time I guess...

Exactly. There's a video sad you should definitely check this out that'll explain it a lot better.. One heavy coat is the way it should go this is the way they produce or finish headlights and the factory and when they are made.. they do this for a reason to cut back on CRUSTS... Which inhibits your headlight clarity also the output severely... Check this video out as a must.. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gJussKumf6TVc7w.html

I found your vids recently, glad I did, you are the goat, knowing you have tried it all, what do you think of amazons dura gold sanding discs, I thing it would be good, if every so often you did a getting started vid for newbies, that just found you, with the new stuff you learned,, and changed over the years, as if you were starting today, also if there's a difference in what you would buy, and set up with for some who wants to start a business, or just do their own every year or 2, as needed, thanks for what you do, and teach

There's many sanding discs out there. I tried a lot until I came across 3M sanding disc then I stopped trying..lol Pretty much 3M products are the cream of the crop.. There's no real higher or equal in most cases... And that's a good idea about the video I'll probably take that into effect sooner or later.. it's a lot of different stuff coming up and I have a lot of stuff already up... But I definitely will keep that in mind that would be an interesting topic..💯 Thank you for watching plenty of videos up right now so enjoy...💪🏽 And if you're serious this channel will put you light years ahead of people who have already been doing headlight restoration for years...💯

  • @theheadlightrestorationpro

Dry sanding.. Actual The true professional way to sand anything is to start with dry sanding and finish with wet sanding... It's literally on Google.. dry sanding remove stuff heavily and we're concerning plastics adds to that clear smooth finish, wet sanding is only meant to be a finish step or near finish step. Extra smoothing.. it's the lightest form of sanding.. so my method is pretty much gramorically correct when it comes to sanding anything especially plastic/ or polycarbonate headlights. It's extremely more efficient.. when sanding alone is kind of like training wheels... Dry sanding is a big boy shit.. it's like a hundred times faster and more efficient.. and this is why you notice if you ever have noticed was some wet Sanders product or finished product differ a lot they're not very consistent.. whereas you see my method they all come out crazy good and you only see the ones that I choose to film.. I don't film all of them because of time and storage space.. I only film about maybe 10% if that...kzread.info/dash/bejne/a3iassGdodqXnbg.htmlsi=L-RIziOEU_7Vb70L kzread.info/dash/bejne/l6OEra1mpNWulMo.html

Question. I've binge watched a lot your really great videos -- but I still have a question. I just bout a 2017 Mazda 3 from a dealer about 6 weeks ago. I noticed a bit of power (white) around the headlamps when I was buying it -- and the headlamps are quite clear & bright -- but I noticed what look like a few water spots that seem like slight surface depressions. I'm thinking that they already did most of the sanding & polishing work: can I just apply the Maguires clear coat with just a preliminary cleanup of the lenses? They look great -- and I just want them to stay that way. Looking at them, I don't think that they have any clear coat.

@@theheadlightrestorationpro Awesome tips -- and thanks for the valuable info, and putting my mind at ease. Now I see that the "water spot" like depressions I see are probably just spots where bubbles were forming & the restorers at the dealer weren't going to chase them down with the abrasives before finishing the job. I see in your videos where you say that deep imperfections get left behind for future restorations to get. Thanks for the super-informative videos -- and don't let anyone ever tell you that you curse too fucking much -- because it's just fucking right!

So I kind of messed up and want to see what to think. I just did a repeat customers other car last week (3rd car I’ve done for them) and i was doing an optima that didn’t seem too bad. Boy, was I wrong. I wanted to do it later in the week because I need a few supplies but she really wanted to done that day so I came. There were parts that I could not remove the clearcoat. I hit it with 400 and it was not budging and the same with 320. I eventually got impatient and went 220 and tried to be a delicate as possible but the scratches were too deep. I applied the 3m lenses cleaner after the 3000 step by hand because my drill attachment came apart. It didn’t look great, but after I cleared them, some parts looked really good, but the areas I hit with the 220 did not. I used meguirs coating. My question is, could I just go back then and polish them out with my new drill and cutting pad considering they’re already clear?

No not at all you got to think the shell is fine everything else that doesn't look good the damage is underneath it you'd have to remove everything and pretty much start over and make sure everything is done correctly BEFORE you finish them... These things happen when you don't pretty much FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS.. I'm literally a season Pro probably ONE OF THE BEST IN THE WORLD that HAS shown you how to do it over 140 times on this channel.. in fact there's a couple videos with that EXACT vehicle on it... For some reason you opted to do a lot of things that I wouldn't do in a way that I wouldn't do them... Second of all if you don't feel like you have the proper tools for the job you should always wait it's better to lose a customer than to mess up their vehicle because they can smut you up and word of mouth is very powerful... It sounds like you made a lot of mistakes but you're number one mistake is just not doing what somebody who is an expert in doing this has showed you... Literally step by step every single video but you deter and do what you want to do ... DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY... Any little variation will do something negative and you may think it'll do something positive but trust me it won't I literally have tried that many different ways and so much that I know.. hopefully those sandpapers where 3M and had to P in front of them...

All depends on the vehicle and the level of care the person places with a vehicle headlight structure type of thing.. but typically anywhere between 14 months and 4 years.. 4 years is somebody who really gives a shit about their vehicle like myself mine is going on over 4 years and just now seeing a little signs up top but still look great..
