Iceberg creator here, I'm really impressed with the you did on this one, and I'm definitely looking forward to future videos. Though I will add a few notes. - Postal was included specifically for the first entry, which is is different from the 2nd and 3rd games in that it was basically Hatred except released in the 90s, and was a much more serious game. - The other Corpse Party entries on the list are either fangames or unreleased games, so that entry was specifically referring to the first game, though the first game and Book of Shadows are the only ones that are really disturbing. - The Thief entry was more so referring to the first three games, though I admit I don't know much about the reboot aside from fans of the original trilogy not liking it.

Hysteric Birthday 2U, or whatever the heck the official English name is, is a black comedy, not a horror game, and isn’t really all that disturbing. Blood Drive… I don’t know much about Blood Drive. Corpse Party 2 is plenty freaky, but also unfinished.

The first Dead Space was good. I’m wary of the remake, since it was announced about the same time the actual devs announced a successor. If there’s one major flaw to the original… it’s that the lore doesn’t fit well with the later games. In the first game, the Marker was clearly a benevolent force and something that held the Necromorphs back. In the second game, it’s evil with a kinda clumsy retcon for how that makes sense. (The devs have admitted that they just didn’t have a clear idea where they were going with the lore in the first game, and it’s basically just a mistake) Oh, hey! I was a backer on Undertale. My name is even in the credits because of it. (Yes, I’m *that* Nezumi)

I think the iceberg was specifically talking about the original Postal from 1997, Postal 1 is very different from its sequels and is very dark and disturbing. Especially with the ending where you attempt to shoot up an elementary school.

To basically sum up Danganronpa without spoilers: A bunch of kids, who excel at one thing each perfectly.. Are invited to this special school named "Hope Peak's Academy". Although it seemed like an amazing place for special kids, the game (at least the first in the series), takes an immediate dark turn, with everyone being stuck here until they die. If you wish to escape, you have to kill each other without being caught, because if you are caught. You will also die. Now, while your goal isn't to murder your fellow students, you are basically the detective here, and have to find out who the killers are. It's an interactive visual novel while you try to investigate and find out each killer. However this isn't all that simple, the game can really pressure you as accusing an innocent student will cause them to die, with the killer still being free. TL;DR: It's a darker Phoenix Wright game with kids except that when you fail, innocent people will die.

29:56 you're wrong about Postal. What you're saying is true for the second game onwards, but the first game in particular is actually very disturbing and well done in terms of its creepiness imo. The game Hatred is sort of a badly made ripoff but the first Postal gave you a lot more insight into the twisted and unhinged mind of the protagonist and his descent into complete madness with a touch of dark humor and this particular creepy atmosphere. I always thought it was an interesting game 34:30 that Thief game you're talking about is actually a reboot of an older stealth/sort of immersive sim series that had a few scary and weird levels

You are totally right about When They Cry (Higurashi), the anime series really took off... The series starts like any other Slice of life but then everything gets messed up really quickly, it's mostly known for it's great story, psychological horror and gore scenes. There were and probably still are (correct me on this one) a few of cafes in Japan with the Higurashi theme in mind. The anime is quite big in Japan. It even got a 2021 reboot which wasn't really a reboot since it was secretly a sequel which acted like a reboot, but unfortunately it wasn't really that good (which is a shame since I am big of this anime), the 2006 "version" is a whole lot better.

Note about Slender: While there are plenty of webseries that came after it, not all of them were based on the game. In fact the biggest 'Slenderverse' ARG, Marble Hornets, was planned and began posting before the game even came out! The mechanics of Slenderman and the pages in the game are even visibly taken from the series, since the lore of it distorting technology wasn't in the original, and the designs of the pages are directly taken from MH. While a lot of people found Slenderman/Slenderverse content through the game, almost all of it finds its roots in the Marble Hornets series. And contrary to what a lot think, the Slenderverse community is not actually dead! One of the biggest series, EMH, didn't finish until 2018, and there are still ARGs active to this day. It's true that the community is MUCH smaller than it used to be, and yeah the stabbing did deal a pretty big blow to its reputation, but there is still a small but passionate community of creators pushing forward to this day. And especially these days, with the preteen craze having died out, it's actually a pretty cool place! Slenderman and associated 'creepypasta' stuff does have a massive social stigma of Cringe now, but honestly, it's been a huge part of my life for years and I love it- despite what a lot of people seem to think, most 18+ folk who like these series don't like it because we think it's genuinely Scary in the traditional sense. Slenderman hasn't scared me since I was ten. But the concept and the collaborative universe built around it is an EXCELLENT tool/setting for making really creative stories pulling from ideas of eldritch/cosmic horror! Not to overstate but again, I really recommend checking out Nightmind's videos discussing Everymanhybrid if you want a good example of that- it was an EIGHT YEAR passion project from three guys that goes from silly costumes lurking in the background to an insane, reality-warping, time-traveling nightmare. Anyway, I went off on a tangent... great vid, man!

Great video, some things I want to quickly point out/comment on: - Whilst OMORI does have similarites to Undertale, it's very heavily inspired by, and much more similar, to Earthbound. Even OMOCAT (the creator) made an Earthbound tribute post talking about how the game had inspired OMORI in the first place - I know Danganronpa has already has it's fair share of comments, but I especially want to give a quick shoutout to Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls which, not only does it have a completely different play style from the rest of the games, but is by far the most disturbing/creepiest of the bunch. Research at your own discrecion, of course. - From what I've heard, despite it's disappointing initial reviews, apparently We Happy few had a bit of a turnaround? Even though the game mechanics still need work, it has mostly positive to very positive reviews on Steam. That's what I've heard though, take with a pinch of salt on that, anyone who wants to correct me on this feel free to do so! - Not really so much as a point, but I'm sad sad Showdown Bandit got cancelled, I really enjoyed the premises of it and it definitely had a lot of potential in becoming a really cool game :( - Also wanted to share that despite it being one of my favourite games and helping me through a rough period in my life, Night in the Woods also had controversy surrounding its sound composer Alec Holowka who passed away. This happened a few years after the game release (again, do your own research and what not, don't want to sound gossipy about it)

Good video! Just some basic feedback I had as I watched: There's some redundancy in the script on somewhat filler lines, even with most entries only getting a short paragraph about them. Slightly different ways to say "you already know what this is" or "if you've never heard of it" come up a lot, a bit redundant since tier 1 and 2 are meant to be known things and these lines should apply to all entries automatically. You did a good job of explaining even the ones people "should already know", thankfully. Another very repeated line is ways to say "I won't go into much more detail". Outside of Doki Doki Literature Club where even mentioning basics is a spoiler, there's not really a purpose since with entries this short of course details are limited. It could be worth grouping similar games up in future lists. Like, tier 1 could have been separated into "huge horror series you should already know", "Tuber reaction games", and then "dark not-horror games", saving you from having to repeat 1 of those 3 lines for pretty much every entry. Again not trying to be harsh, this was a great video, I do think it's useful feedback. Not a huge deal, but 100K subs is a pretty nice channel size and this is the sort of optimization that usually helps videos go from "really good" to "super engaging and tightly paced". And for one final note since I didn't see anyone else point it out in the comments, When They Cry is actually bigger than this list mentions. It's the overarching name of a series of visual novels by creator R07. The one this video mentions is "Higurashi: When They Cry" (Aka When The Cicadas Cry) but there is also Umineko: When They Cry (Aka When The Seagulls Cry) and the in-progress "Ciconia: When They Cry" (Aka When The Storks Cry). Higurashi is the most well known but Umineko is not that far behind it within Japan or in visual novel communities, it was also popular enough to get a (pretty bad adaptation) anime. For a comparison it's sort of like if "J. R. R. Tolkien" was on a fantasy list and then the entry only mentioned The Hobbit but not The Lord Of The Rings. Not a huge deal but it's worth the mention.

Wow I can't believe Muv Luv is on this list! I had no idea about the Extra portion and when I realized it was more than just a cheeky little fake game ending I was blown away. There's a sequel as well, Muv Luv Alternative, that, without spoilers, puts the main character back at the beginning of Extra with all his knowledge of what happened before.

Good vid, though I kind of question the decision to refer to LIMBO as a ""walking sim"". It's more of a puzzle game really, Yume Nikki fits the walking sim label a lot closer considering there isn't much else to do besides exploring. I love them both, though.

Higurashi is such an interesting story. The visual novel is extremely barebones, but very well written, and the translation is fantastic for the first game and pretty good for the rest of them. I love the anime but the visual novel adds so much

It can not be denied that the Dramatical Murder Soundtrack slaps so hard and the character design is iconic. I was exposed to it way too early tho - what a weird game if you think about it: Retrofuturistic Cyberpunk "ghey pr0n" with seriously out-there story about gangs and overthrowing an evil corporation. The NitroChiral Games are all headache-inducing but iconic.

I just recently finished editing the full “bendy and the ink machine” game for someone, and at first it was hard to get into (as a person watching), but after the first chapter, I really started liking the art style as well as the soundtrack. They have tapes throughout the game you can play, which give you a little bit of context of the plot, and jacksepticeye happened to be one of the people that voiced a former worker tape. If you like lore type games, I’d definitely suggest playing it. It’s got a few jump scares but it’s not that scary, mostly suspenseful.
