Finding Creepy Things Hidden in Family Friendly Video Games (Iceberg Explained)

Ойындар

Welcome back to the channel! After about a month I decided to kick it back in gear and now I'm back with another iceberg! Today we are dissecting the iceberg located on icebergcharts.com known as Creepy Things in Family Friendly Video Games. Today we are taking a look at a few entries from each layer and covering the full iceberg. Thanks for watching, and links to the iceberg itself and my iceberg playlist are below.
Part 2: • Finding Creepy Things ...
** The third entry is supposed to be titled Lethal Lava Land Painting instead of Zero from Kirby's Dreamland 3, this was a simple editing mistake**

I've seen a lot of people say I should've covered the whole list, so I decided to make a part 2. I'm working on that right now and I'm planning on hitting all the entries I missed (besides some layer 1 stuff) so stay tuned for that. Thanks for the support on the video and everyone who has subbed from the video, more is coming soon!

I honestly love how disturbing kirby bosses are. The fact that they feel so foreign to the normally happy and bright setting of the game really gives you the feeling that they are an invading force from far away, and it makes you want to defeat it even more to defend the colorful world you’ve become acquainted with. Kirby is at its core a happy game, but sometimes evil will try to take your happiness away from you. And thats when its time to fight back.

In Nicktoons: Attack of The Toybots, you can find a texture for a toybox that contains the text "I'll hug you and kill you", "You'll never sleep again", and "I'll kill your parents". The rating on the box also says "18+" and "Warning: Will try to kill you". The texture is actually used in-game, but the texture is too hard to read when playing.

Kirby games tend to have darker themes in the games over all because they have connections to its overarching lore, like Void being a false destoryer god, or Fecto Forgo being a amalgamate of animal parts. Zero does bleed. Its most likely that he cries blood because he thematically has no rest, being the antithesis to the residents of "Dreamland".

@@blueberrypitbull87 I'm no Xbox fanboy, but i own a original Xbox, and got a 360 only a few years ago because someone gave it to me for free. But the OG Xbox was the most powerfull system out at that time hands down. I mean that bad boy can put out 1080i with some 10$ component cables. It is in my opinion still my fav of that gen of gaming with a ton of interesting titles honestly. I also own a PS2, and gamecube. But i do def play my OG xbox way more than my PS2. And outside of GBI there is no reason to really hook up my gamecube. As i also have a wii lol. The controller is hands down one of my all time favs. Gets ton of homebrew support to this day. Has great less talked about titles like: jade empire, JSRF, Ninja Gaiden Black, Outrun 2, a ton of good arcade fighters, gunvalkyrie, The star wars games like republic commando also go hard. Or real hidden gems like phantom dust. Also the OG Xbox is not the 360, and the only problem is that 1 capacitor leaks replace that, and you're set. Mine has run fine for 20 years at this point lol. If you don't have a CRT setup the Xbox is great since it has native digital, and analog output so it actually looks good over HDMI without any mods, or $100 cables. build in hard-drive that you can replace with mod to have all your games on there. Also about the Network capabilities xbox was the only one that had that on launch, and was pretty much a pioneer for online console gaming with games actually coming with online multiplayer as a actual easy thing to set up. Not being a PC only thing anymore. The PS2, and gamecube only had a handfull of games that actually supported online multiplayer. Also actually needing you to purchase an adapter. I might seem a bit to much, but as someone that loves the OG xbox, and never really liked any Xbox consoles after. I don't think you get how good it actually holds up today. And how forward thinking it was at the time.

About the naughty Spongebob images, apparently the original animators for Spongebob basically did the same thing. The drawings were all compiled into a book given to all the staff before they left, called "Behind closed doors", and though we don't have the entire book we have enough to get a general idea of what's in there. Just... don't look it up when your mom's looking. Apparently it was a way for the animators to vent while working long hours for little pay on the show, and that the existence of that kind of thing can be a telltale sign of bad working conditions (the dead Ryan Toys drawing in the files may also be an example)

18:55 This kinda reminds me of Behind Closed Doors, a compilation of extremely inappropriate sketches and doodles made by Spongebob animators in between the storyboarding of episodes. I think this kind of thing must be more common in the animation industry than people think, presumably as a way to cope with strict standards and deadlines. Game devs, meanwhile, occasionally cope with such issues by hiding inappropriate things in the game files that the player wouldn't be expected to find, like profanity-laden rants in the code or perhaps even rude/raunchy images - so here, we see a crossover.

I can't think of many games that would scare me, or give me a creepy feeling, but I do remember as a little kid, around 5 or 6, that would creep me out from playing was a single level from Donkey Kong on gameboy. There was this level where you swim underwater but there was an octopus enemy that would chase you. Normally, that's not a problem, but at that age, when I first played it, something about the octopus's movement drove me out of the room. My little brain couldn't comprehend just what it was, and after I died from the enemy, I refused to play it. I'd ask my mother to beat it for me, and she would. The fact that I played it on the Super Gameboy was probably not much helpful. And after a few years, I was thinking back to it, trying to understand why I was so scared in the first place. I played Shadowgate multiple times and THIS game is the one that scares me!?

The fans waiting silently as the singer/band (the footsteps) walks onto the stage. The crowd erupts with excited screams and shrieks! The rest, I'm not entirely sure, but the screams I feel don't have quite enough emotion to be anything all that bad.

The ps2 disc error screen never scared me, but i always got a sense of dread when seeing it, all i wanted to do after coming home from school was to play a game i was hyped for only to be emotionally whiplashed into knowing that there's a good chance that game will never be able to be played again, and that i'd need to go through the 5 stages of grief and even stick toothpaste on my game just for a slight chance of it working (fun fact i actually did try the toothpaste thing and it worked one whole time before never working again.)

Yea same i loved, and still do love watching and playing horror content. Like 7 year old me playing Resident Evil, or Silent Hill for the first time. Or Whiteday which found it's way onto my dads PC at some point. But unintentional horror really hits different. Like when a game on the OG xbox crashes for some reason, and get that green text with black background with some Chinese text and stuff. Or getting jumpscared by a BSOD on your PC with the older versions of windows just being white text blue background with some hex codes. Those are the real scary ones to young me. Kinda always felt like the console was screaming: YOU KILLED ME. You just hoped, and prayed that you didn't destroy your console or PC while hesitatingly restarting it. The real scary thing to me always was thinking i destroyed my beloved console or PC losing it forever in the process.

The SpongeBob one is super weird no matter how you spin it. Like either it’s a sex thing and some guy brought his kink to work on a children’s game, or it’s just a joke in which case someone still drew multiple sketches of SpongeBob characters having sex, while at work on a children’s game.

Not sure if Chrono Trigger counts as a game "suitable for the whole family" (it is more aimed at a teenage audience) but I consider that it is the game with the best "Apocalyptic bas ending" the sequence is more dramatical than realistic, but it also manages to be more tragic and nightmarish, especially thanks to that line of "But... The future refused to change."

When I was a kid, my dad had a SNES emulator on his computer, and thats how I was exposed to most 'older' video games. And I was absolutely *terrified* of DK Country's graphics. The parts that scared me the most were the notoriously out-of-pocket game over screen, and strangely enough, the very beginning of the opening cutscene where Cranky Kong is playing the music on the gramophone. Because of those 2 things, and just the overall strange 3d-rendered graphics, I was never able to finish the DK Country trilogy. It doesn't scare me now, and I know the games are good, but I have no motivation to play them anymore.

I never thought about it that way, but the bad ending of Majora's Mask being an evil force essentially causing the world's destruction, including their own, does sound like a parallel to how the government of Japan, after committing countless atrocities up and into World War II, refused to surrender. And so two atomic bombs were dropped on it. Killing countless innocents.

The red PlayStation CD screen is pretty scary cuz already just booting up the PS2 was known to freak people out by how sudden and loud the ambient music would be, before getting quiet as the camera flies into the pit. So having it fly into a pit with the colors turning red and the creepy ambient music persisting rather than going quiet would def be scary. Like you said, only kids who had the PlayStation 2 and understood how scary it was to be jumpacared every time you turn it on (esp since sometimes you might forget to lower the volume of the tv before turning on the PS2) can truly understand. It’s nostalgic and infamous for a reason lol
