It's not that bad. Once or twice a decade, we get a glass-cannon deck that plays Serum Powder, and the deck disappears completely.

It's the same way it worked with Paris or Vancouver. You just have to go down to your actual hand size before you Powder.

@@TheOnlyBootlegger my awkwardness is not related to power level. It's related to how unintuitive the interaction is for me. I used to think of Serum as "you get a free mulligan". Didn't realize that with London you have to bottom before the effect

It's super weird.

I understand the flavor of having only cololess lands, but having forests would allow him to cast the green non domain pump spells when he loses leyline, and I think that's worth losing some scry lands

Yea, I didn't really understand the manabase. A few scrylands didn't seem worth it. I get the flavor of it, but also I thought there were like way better utility lands than just a scry 1

Match 3 game 1. You confuse might of old krosa with groundswell. You don't need a land, you just cast it main phase to get +4/+4 which would have been enough for lethal. It may have drawn a removal spell on your creature instead of them destroying the leyline.

@MTGGoldfish Seth Try play the land that makes all land into forests in addition to other types called Yavimaya. If you do this you can cast Leyline and half of your other spells.

Finally a modern video again! I get that the format is trash for against the odds/budget magic/much abrew since MH2, but it was mtggoldfish videos that really got me into modern when I started magic back in 2014 so it’s nice to watch them again

Don't worry, they'll still be some Modern (probably just not as much as in the past because, as you mentioned, it's not as easy to play jank as it used to be). I expect we'll be playing it a ton in a few months though when MH3 and Assassin's Creed come out, I'm super hyped for those sets (especially MH3)

I'd love to see you run this back with a functional manabase to see if the colorless lands actually make a difference.

This deckbuilder was definitely going on hardmode for no reason. Swap Blessing of the Nephililm out for Aspect of the Hydra, swap Faith's Shield out for Taymiyo's Safekeeping, and run some green sources in the mana base instead of this jank. Even if you dont add any other colors to your manabase but green, the only spells you cant cast are then Scamp and Agent. much more reliable.

Agree, he needs to run some Forests and Plains and would even run some Gruul and Simic lands just in case. I would not be running too many colorless - Urza's Saga is only a good land in Artifact centric Decks (but this isn't an artifact deck). - Escape Tunnel is not useful if we don't have basics in this Deck since the other function is more useful if we have Mirrex/Skrelv's Hive or even Venerated Rotpriest. But for that, just run an Toxic/Infect Hybrid Deck that has both plans in mind (try slam with a Big Infected creature and if that does not work you start slaming with smaller Toxic Creature (using Escape Tunnel to ensure they get overwhelmed by the Poison) or get your bigger Toxic Creatures in play and slam him - If you want to run Inkmoth Nexus, you should also run Blinkmoth Nexus too

I agree on Faith's Shield swapping out for Tamiyo's Safekeeping, simply because Faith's shield doesn't protect Leyline from Boseiju, but Blessing of the Nephilim is strictly better than Aspect of Hydra in this deck. Maybe another pump spell to consider is Might of the Nephilim.

Did you consider might of the Nephilim? I used to use that in a jank nephilim deck, but here it seems like 2 mights of alara in a single card

Seth's victory cry at 18:30 filled me with joy

Seth's absolute bafflement and joy when he first achieved a winning record with the deck fills my heart with joy

I thought it was really funny that at 36:30 you can hear the fear of God entering Seth's voice for a second. Great video!

So why the colorless lands instead of like... basic forests? Doesn't that accomplish the same thing with significantly less risk of bricking?

The colourless lands are funny but running them over basic Forests (or, let's be honest, Boseiju) is questionable

I pulled a Leyline during Draft at my LGS. My draft deck didn’t need it, but I kept it anyway just to have it. Excellent decision. Picking it over a useful card didn’t even hurt the deck either, I got first place!

Seth confusing might of old krosa with groundswell at 20:48 hurt my soul a little bit but awesome deck!

Should we just have a scion of Draco in here to give our stuff protection and other keywords

First round of match 5, the turn you got the urzas saga you could have animated inkmoth, used might of alara to get in for 6. opponents turn you block with your 6/6, then when you draw blessing of nephilim, you play it on inkmoth to win the game. Hindsight is 20/20 though, and I wasn't playing the match, so I don't know if I would have seen it either.

Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth over the gray havens allows the chance to cast a layline

I would love to see this deck again in the near future with your upgrade ideas.

Yep, I think you are right. We can't cast it without Leyline anyway and it will always be +5/+5 at a min.

I love how there are so many janky ways to win with infect. Turns out even 1 and 2 mana 1/1s are good when you're opponent starts at a psuedo 10 life. Also this reminds me of how glad I am gitaxian probe is banned lol

This deck makes me shiver, lol. I would replace some of the colorless lands in some amount of forests or one of each basic land (other than swamp). It also lets you tutor basics with Escape Tunnel

yea the Crystal Grotto and Yavimaya Cradle of Growth disrespect was wild - it would make the deck really strong!

Finally modern. Miss the days when we could have 3 modern videos in a week.

Great content. I prefer the safer hexproof infect pump plans. Vines of vastwood. Occasionally steal wins but often times have one or two hexproof spells in hand against removal

Should there be 1 Gemstone in the main and 3 in the side? We're already all in why not go full out. Maybe the Grey Havens starts in the board ?

I just don't see the point in all the colorless lands? Like couldn't you use some lands that produce colors, and have a strictly better deck?

They all have activated abilities, but I don't know if that's enough upside to make it worth not being able to cast spells when we don't have leyline.

Just giving some engagement. Love how the guild pacts is shaking up 60 card formats.

Yeah, I also think adding some green lands instead of especially Escape Tunnel would make the deck a lot more consistent, and if there is an alternative to Blessing of the Nephilim in green, then you wouldn't have to play white and Faith's Shield and could auto-include 4 Tamiyo's Safekeeping.

You could play “treasure vault” and keep the colorless land meem alive; and also have color mana when the leyline is removed.

I agree with the end take. The colorless lands do have some utility but it doesn't feel worth fundamentally Blood Mooning your deck. You could keep the Gemstone Caverns, Serum Powder, and Leyline plan while actually being able to cast spells. This deck is already trying to be blazing fast so maybe some Mana Confluence and City of Brass. Get some Forces and evoke elemental sideboard action going on.

is aether vial legal in this format if it is i feel like it might be a strong add as its colorless (sorry if this is a dumb suggestion im new to deck building)

Tyvar’s stand seems better than Tamios safekeeping for the deck cause it’s a pump spell if you need it right?

The only problem with Tyvar's Stand is it can't protect Leyline of the Guildpact.

Hey Seth, Don't know if you'll see this, but how about an against the odds deck with Leyline of the Guildpact and Coalition Victory?

Maybe put in blossoming defense for extra pump and hexproof for creatures?

Why not crystal grotto in case leyline is removed later in the game as a redundancy to clsoe things out?

I am kinda extremely interested in seeing a nykthos, leyline brew. I mean 4 green pips for free could lead to some pretty cool stuff

maybe a version of this with Scion + land grand and basic forest would work with all the mulligans

since we need leyline anyways, shouldnt we have at least a few scion of dracos? the hexproof seems good too

Might of Old Krosa is only +2/+2 there since we didn't have a land enter the battlefield so we would still be short of lethal doing it that way.

I do not understand why M3 opp attacked and then scooped. All they have to do is keep scion back to block and they have like 6 turns to draw interaction to deal with agent. Total confusion from the off-the-walls nature of this deck I suppose.

I think all colorless lands is too cheeky, but this deck definitely has something going for it

Fr I would take out the colorless lands and have a more standard mana-base as backup. But if you wanted to keep with the memes I'd recommend mirrex and creeping inn for more poison and sac outlet for scamp

Not sure what you'd cut, but Scion of Draco might be really good in this deck. It's down on turn two.

Honestly, I think this deck might have potential. It just needs a bit of de-janking and some tuning. Might of Old Krosa is super awkward for sure.
