Brutal honesty is refreshing
I'll never forget maybe nine years ago now, John messaged my band on myspace asking for these same details: Live footage, crowd pull, etc. I can see he has a consistent method. I replied but never heard back, I assume we failed the scan. I'll never forget how that felt though, it was cool thinking John was considering our project.

I'm not sure it's realistic to say he was "considering your project". It's more like if someone is a big car buyer who buys and re-sells cars, and they catch a glimpse of a car driving by and turn around to check it out. Only after getting up close to a better look they realize it's an absolute bucket coverered with damage, wear, and high milage. It was decieving at a driving glance. A car salesman approaches asking if they need help and they completely ignore them and get in the car and leave. "Considering" would have been actually being interested and popping the hood and taking a test drive and trying to negotiate a price. Feldy ghosted you completely. Zero consideration.
Absolute legend, massive inspiration. New Goldfinger record is so dope
I wish John would do a kind of a "Behind the scenes" and show people what his process for producing bands from start to finish, including pre-production where bands already have some songs demo'd and another version where bands do not have songs written. I'd love to see if he gets involved with mic selections, studio set up, drum setup, mic placement, or if he leaves all that to the studio and/or engineers he hires. Then I' It would be great to get to watch his process on helping bands get the best songs and the best versions of those songs onto 2inch or to protocols, I would think he uses both. That would be a great 1+ hour video. Tim Armstrong from Rancid, who I'm sure is a good friend of John's, also produces a ton of artists like Jimmy Cliff, Joe Strummer, A.F.I., Pink, Distillers, Interrupters and a ton more. I'd love to see his entire process too!!! With so many ppl using Pro tools to record themselves and others, I know a lot of ppl from all genres of music would enjoy watching that. Punk Rock has always been transparent and I have never seen any producer of national acts show any of their process that wasn't edited all to hell and out of sequence from how it was originally recording.
0:26 "The Used, who i discovered about 12 years ago"? More like 19 years at the time of this video 😜
I've always wondered what Feldman's thoughts are on newer bands with more of a stripped down sound, like "The Growlers" or "FIDLAR". It seems that John loves doing very polished records.
How does this not have more views?? Amazing content.

Very cool. I am not good with music but I play drums, guitar, and bass and try to make recordings on Garageband but I never make anything that sounds great. I love to watch with mixing and mastering aspects of it even though it's way above my knowledge. Thanks for sharing.
I like the music of perfect score!
Love how honest he is.
That Max dude is lying. Randy Slaugh is the choir and orchestra arranger for Periphery and he is from SLC.
24:40 so many bands like that focus on everything but the music. I never made it big or anything, I had some small success with radio and some music in film so who am I to judge I’m no better than the next band.. But I played with so many bands and I have seen quite a bit.. I have seen bands that literally only had a Facebook, some well recorded music, no music videos because they didn’t have money so they just focused on writing good songs that they spent what money they had recording them at a quality studio and they ended up getting fairly big because they had good music and they toured. I’ve seen bands that have everything in place music videos, good website, super professional social media, well recorded music but the music is just generic boring crap you can tell the music was recorded very will but the production was not good so they had a bad producer or they self produced it, vocal performances were not good, generic lyrics. Same thing with the music videos you can tell whoever shot the video had very high quality equipment but the production is bad. Bands like this music is pretty much a hobby not something they need to do.
If possible, try to re-broadcast the music in stereo. It was all summed in mono for this video :( Otherwise, great concept.
Check out ‘Electric Love Hogs’ if you like Feldman, he certainly isn’t a one trick pony. They are better than early RHCP to be honest. What a talented guy. I am pretty AHAD too but productive like this when channeled great to see these kind of videos what the internet should be all about.
Will John be doing this again?
How do you get into this show?
12 years ago he discovered the used? Does he mean 18-19 years ago?

EXACTLY. I just commented something similar and then scrolled and saw your comment. This was March 2020 after Heartwork. The Used were signed in January 2001. Debut album in mid 2002. Just a tad over 19 years at the time of this video. "12 years" 😆 He's nearly a decade behind

@@andnew1335 No doubt! Should be a good one. Covid put a kink in his plans for that 2020 season after Cowboy. But this will kick off 2021 right and hopefully be a historic year.
