Idk about anyone else but I l LOVE IT when Cenk reviews movies on here. He's always got an interesting Average Joe's take on movies.

Being average is not something to be proud of. The world doesn't need more people that just settle, decide to be average, be proud of it and that change nothing. Average is dumb and lazy. Fuck average.

Ben has a similar appeal to me. He's like the middle ground between the real critics of Alonzo and Christy and the everyman of Cenk
You could put Margot Robbie, Beyoncé, Pam Grier circa 1975, Pamela Anderson circa 1995 and, Salma Hayek all in a hot tub time machine, I still wouldn't understand what a damn credit default swap is.

A bond is a debt instrument, an IOU. A CDO is a contract, it's is a bet, like insurance, if something goes BAD, the people who accept your contract , your bet, have to pay you. These guys in the film could see a bad collapse coming. They bet the tornado would hit. They were correct. They all made money. They were sad at the end of the movie because the tornado was really a NUCLEAR BOMB. Ordinary people, like a secretary, with $ 100,000 in a retirement, saw their stock account PLUMMET to 25% or worse, as did anyone with stocks ( that includes big banks!) . When the big banks lose a pile of cash, they CLOSE, and/or freeze your assets. My lousy $300 paycheck doesn't get cashed, ATMs stop spitting out money, etc. That why George W and the government had to bail out the banks at the end, to stop a GREAT DEPRESSION!!

+paul blake Hahaha! I love this comment and agree that it was sooo hard to follow. The facts are complicated so they definitely did the best they could and the comedic cameos helped but it took a lot of brain power.

I dated a girl a long time ago that went on a date with Chunk Yogurt. She didn't let him even hit it, she said his dick was laughably small, like less than 3" at full erect, she literally described it as "a small chub with an uncut purple-colored, bulbous mushroom head." He supposedly finished himself off while he was laying on HER couch and used a kitchen towel to clean it up, I guess his spunk smelt like yellow curry....
OMG! Ben Matt and Cenk reviewing a film? Awesome!

I appreciate Cenk allowing reason to massage his overall screen score; however, I do agree that there may be a different rating between how a movie hits you on an intellectual level and on an emotional level. I think when Cenk says MOVIE kind of movie he is referring to when these things work equally well and combine to make something even greater than the sum of its parts.
I love this what the flick line up. Id watch every review if ben and cenk were there. Ben Cenk and John are the three best tyt hosts.
I loved this. It's such a treat when these guys get together to review movies. You should try and do it more often (maybe a few times a year so it remains a surprise).

+Commando Master of course!!!
I understand Cenk's view but fuck I reckon this movie is so much more enjoyable, memorable, intense and entertaining than bloody Spotlight.
One of the year's best.
I like Adam McKay’s visual representation of Michael Lewis’ book. I loved both the film and the novel. With McKay’s film, I liken it to Jon Oliver’s exclusive interview with Ed Snowden. Both McKay and Oliver use accessible images to visually demonstrate shady activities in a really dumbed down way.
Cenk obviously needs to lose himself in a movie. Here it works to be taken OUT of the movie, to look at these characters at a remove and realise just what horrors were taking place. It also gives the audience a chance to assimilate the information they have been given. It's almost like a punk satire, and it works.
Am I the only one who came out of this movie horribly pesimistic about what the future holds? Like, for people who are just getting their lives started, what hope do we have of building a decent life for ourselves?

+iDiotiCDesign I definitely didn't come out feeling good-though I did feel shocked at the 2.69 BILLION they made.
I REALLY want to see this movie! Unfortunately it will never be released in Thailand, so I'll have to wait until it shows up on a torrent site and download it.
Love these guys (especially Ben)
I'm sorry did people just forget there already is a movie about the financial crisis ? 2010 Inside Job narrated by Matt fucking Damon and it even won a goddamn Academy award for best documentary. I mean fuck..does it always have to be overly dramatized for people to give a shit ? It even has the same conclusion like this movie did.
this movie was really intriguing and good insight into what went down.. I loved it
I love Cenk reviews since I went back to the first ones. But I rarely agree. Mostly disagree even.
This channel should have way more subs and views! What the flick is an awesome stop for Tv/Movie reviews.
I liked this a lot - great energy, acting, and you definitely feel a sense of rage afterwards. I'd top out at 8/10 because of one big thing that kept me from getting fully sucked in - while I really liked the use of celebrity cameos, I found that the script was stuck in "explain" mode after they came back from those cameos. A lot of the scenes reminded me of TV infomercials - side characters ask a series of artificial questions for no purpose other than to set up another layer of explanation.
I'll repeat my tweet and say try to get the director. Should be a good interview.
Is it just me or is Cenk's name in a different font from Matt's and Ben's names? It certainly looks like it, and it's bugging me.
I'd never heard the expression "break the fourth wall" before. Now I've heard it five times.
I'm surprised at Cenk. I totally disagreed with the 'unusual' parts of the movie. I loved all of the cameos, fourth wall breaks, and documentary style camera movement.
Man, I Miss "What the Flick".
Michael Burry is buying water. The man is a GENIUS! Clean food and clean water will be our biggest commodity when paper turns to ashes and glass to sand
gonna watch you regularly guys, you are uber-interesting to listen to,thx
I've heard a lot of folks who didn't like the explanatory vignettes, but as this episode points out, you have to take it from the viewership's perspective. Most of the audience likely had little understanding of the financial instruments that created the crisis. I, for one, really appreciated those explanations and can't think of any way they could've presented that information coherently within the existing story arc.

I really enjoyed when they broke the fourth wall in this movie. It gave the movie a level of honesty and "no bullshit" that drew me in.
Damn, I always get excited about movies whenever Bale is there but after seeing this review, I am now definitely gonna watch it.
it says plan b at the beginning of the film. i thought that was part of the film. as if in the story someone had a plan b then will change to plan a later on. great movie that needs to be seen by everybody. has its faults but its big name cast will get the message to a wider public.
loved the movie watched it 3 times in the past week and done tons of research on michael burry
Haven't seen the movie yet, but the trailer is fucking amazing, can't wait to see it. That cast alone is amazing!
I wonder how it ends.
Everyone go see this movie, see it twice!! It is worth 2 viewings. It is important to everyone.

One of the most polarizing movies for WTF... Ben and Matt LOVED, Christy and Alonso Were very mehh about it.
I think I rate movies like Cenk does! Movie!
Good Review, but if anybody cares and housing market did not fail because of banks. Banks were told, by the Gov, to make loans to people that had bad credit and could not show a reliable source of income. Housing defaults have happened many times in history as early as the 70's, and some banks went under because of it. This time it was simply the volume of defaults that caught everyone off guard.
I dunno. I think only three people can get away with breaking the fourth wall: Groucho Marx, Woody Allen, and Ferris Buehler.

Having not seen the movie and based on the media attention to the banking crisis, the problems that persists since the crisis is that the issue can be brought to one mega major fact: most of these practices *were* legal and are *still* legal. I've worked in finance and regulation for over a decade and the most astonishing part of all of this is that the government didn't do more in terms of safeguarding this from happening again and why they didn't. They didn't because the banks are still in control and fight regulation even though the lack of regulation is why so many failed. So unless this movie has its climatic point of the lack of regulation then don't waist my time. Ask why none of the CEOs have been charged for shorting the market? answer: it was legal and for the most part is *STILL* legal.

Please listen to me, bring back the original setup of the game of thrones reviews of season 4, with the big table and all the people around it. In the middle of season 5 you changed it up and got a lot less people and a smaller scale, which made the quality a lot worse. Cenk and Matt's anologies are amazing and Ben always forgets things.

For the same reason I can read a book and not get it but someone else shows me a different point of view on it and I'm able to get it. Why should anything be hard and fast? life is a constant flux, even opinions about movies.
@sglider

Midi Cenk never said he didn't get it. He said some of the stylistic choices took him out of the movie. If that is so, then no amount of talk should change it. If that's how he felt watching it, then that is how he felt. It's not like he didn't understand a plot point or a character's motivation. He was talking about how it made him feel. Big difference.
@blakesun
8 жыл бұрын
He said there was a scene in the casino that Matt mentioned that made him reconsider because it so well explained the stock market and he didn't give it much thought until Matt brought it up. People re-evaluate all the time, it's human to adjust. Only ideologues hold so tight to their positions.
Suuucchhhh a good fucking movie!!
This movie's stylistic weirdness was part of its brilliance, in my humble opinion. No problem with having breaks from a flow. Also, THE DEPARTED is weak and overrated-- my opinion.
The Big Short will win best picture.
I thought this movie - the big short was a really good youtube video.

They meant it's "classic" WTF. The old WTF videos were just Matt, Cenk and Ben. Sometimes Christie.
So basically what the flick replaced 2 bad reviewers with 1 great reviewer. Christy and Alonso are clearly the weakest of the 4.

+rhn94 kinda weak how you are attacking my opinion for "making assumptions" with an argument beginning with "looked like" thus making an assumption yourself. This happened before a few months ago with Mad Max where it was reviewed but a few days later Cenk added his two cents because he didn't agree with some views on the film. As Cenk said in this episode "TYT is about challenging convention" so fair enough if he wants to do that he's the boss. Even if it's not meant that way I think it's a revisionism the show doesn't need, (I feel it weakens the initial review) but that's MY OPINION and it's just as valid as yours even if it doesn't conform with the "majority here" and which is a value TYT stands up for.
