    I will get some of this. Sometimes I tack things together with my welder, but this can damage the surface, so I really like this idea. I am not fond of binding wire as I have had the occasional but disasterous results. I found a supplier in Canada for this flux. Thanks very much. I admire your fine works

    +Joris Van Daele Boraxin it's adeep pink color and you must dilute it with tap water to almost faint pink . Otherwise will be very sticky and you'll have difficulties working with small pieces . You can test by dipping a small piece of silver sheet in the diluted solution and heat it with a soft flame . If will flourish , you must diluted again , If it will act like a frozen glass , this will be the right formula for soldering silver and gold . Must be white and then , after heating more , must become transparent , like a clear glass coat over the metal . There will go the solder . If will turn muddy , you must clean the piece in the pickling solution and rinse it well and try again .

    Really nice work. I'm glad to see that the stubborn solder Bit, is not exclusive to me. There's always that one joint that just wants to be difficult . Id love to see how you made the Crown , Setting the stones would be interesting.

    Awesome video. You have insane skill! Did you use different hardnesses of solder (Hard, Medium, and Easy) for subsequent soldering?

  • @wontollawolf

    @wontollawolf

    I use only one type of solder on my works , both for gold and for silver and I prefer the hard and extra hard formula , especially when the enamels must be apply . I made my own solder according to the color and carat of the gold I'm using .

    A question-at minute 4:30, you seem to tack the upper seat with the lower part but you haven't soldered it yet! What kind of flux or whatever do you do that with?

  • @wontollawolf

    @wontollawolf

    +Joris VD I'm using a flux solution named Boraxin. It is the best for gold and silver, very clean , but it is very concentrated and I dilute it. Even so it is strong and viscous. After the pieces are set I heat them slightly then the flux cools at the consistency of a fine glass , similar to borax. That's why I can rise some structures before welding them , to check the position of parts. It is much simpler than bound with wire and is very fast and efficient, as you noticed. However, it is a routine matter obtained in years .

    Joris VD how did you get on using boraxin? I'm thinking of ordering some but need to import from Italy so its pretty expensive.

    description say's 18k gold. thickness could be .5mm to 1mm thickness aka 18 gauge gold wire, depending the carat size of the stone. I'm just estimating since size of stone is not mentioned but looks like an 8x10mm Peridot. perhaps Giacomo may enlighten us. He chose not to use round wire, nothing wrong with that.
