It was surprising to learn that Mary was a mess after George died because she did nothing but belittle and overrule him every time he tried to discipline or get involved with the kids - especially Sheldon, Mary's obvious favorite - and claim that she did everything. Who drove Sheldon to Fla. to see a shuttle launch? Who took him to California to see a Hawking speech? Who had to handle the disruptions at school when Sheldon acted up? Sheldon in TBBT had a very warped memory of his father.

He doesn't want to to call him George because, not only does he hate change, but he hates to call Georgie George when that has his father's name (obviously makes him a junior as we all know), and thinks it would be disrespectful to their father. I really don't see how life has been hard for Sheldon. He was pampered and given everything he wanted as a child. In education, he never had to work or take out student loans for college as he got a free ride. He went to Spain as a visiting instructor at age 15 (and George wasn't dead yet, based on the story he told Penny in a TBBT episode), then got his PhD, probably on a free ride there as well, and went to work at CalTech. Even as an adult, he demands all the attention from his friends, as well as demanding that the cater to his every need, i.e. driving him every where, adhering to his bathroom schedule, eating specific food on specific days etc. And after all that, he wins the Nobel prize with Amy. Doesn't sound like a hard life to me.

I disagree on the Georgie front. Georgie is one of the few guys I've seen in canon that doesn't let Sheldon push him around. Leonard has never put up a fight against Sheldon. Though I guess you could say Leonard is like George in the sense that Leonard does at times try to understand Sheldon and make him feel better. The Leonard being like Tam thing makes me roll my eyes. Sheldon's relationship with Tam is not as developed as it is with Leonard and if anything Tam seems like the guy who just hung out with resident child genius because he had no where else to go whereas Leonard is the one that lets Sheldon hang out with him because he knows Sheldon has nobody, he's alone; plus Leonard owed him for having his back. Tam's "suffering" under Sheldon is also never shown in Young Sheldon, and the only instance we see is Tam bemoaning his family situation and wanting to marry a blonde woman to fix the emptiness in his heart, in that sense he's a Leonard carbon-copy. But Sheldon's relationship with Leonard is much deeper or at least developed than Tam's.

@@fatimaquddus2823, you're right that Leonard never defined the boundaries of his relationship with Sheldon. But that's because Dr. Beverly Hofstadter broke him long ago. It's a shame we never met Leonard's brother & sister. It would have been interesting to meet them. Both of them were more accomplished than Leonard was, but when Beverly was told by Howard Wolowitz, "You must be very proud", Beverly replied flatly, "Why? They're not my accomplishments." Beverly spoke of them so infrequently, and talked of Leonard more, even though she wasn't impressed by him until he married Penny Teller. Beverly was impressed Leonard married so well. She subjected Leonard to psychological experiments and humiliated him by publishing books about him without his consent. Imagine life for his siblings. All that achievement and so little appreciation from their mother, who focuses only on Leonard, and only then to make his life miserable. Leonard's Sheldon in reverse. Sheldon's mother doted on him more than anyone and neglected her other children, particularly Missy.

When we grew up I won a scholarship and moved to Spain to study in a private university while my brother stayed in Perú and went to community college, I never understood why he always seemed angry and distand with me but one day I confronted him and he made me understand that while I was busting my ass studying in Spain he was busting his ass working in Perú to provide for the family, he took care of our mom when she was ill and became the man of the house, I've always acted like life was easier for him but it was not. It tourned out we both became engineers, I got a job pretty quickly in a big company but never got promoted while my brother was being constantly promoted and became more succesful than me, I spent to much time being a bookworm while my brother got out to the real world and learned from the streets, now I am trying to learn from his experience and we are very close

It’s so different watching this after watching Young Sheldon. Their young characters are so parallel to the original older characters that it feels like I’m watching their whole life. 😂 They have the same dynamic, it feels so realistic.

And now we know that since he's going to become a father things have been tough for him, with George death and Sheldon going to college Georgie Took care of his child, Mandy, his mom, his sister and his grandma all by himself that's all of pressure on him he's right it hasn't been easy for everybody

In TOS Georgie had no kids, so as usual there is no continuity between series when it comes to "Family situations" Such as here Sheldon did not go off to College until after his father died so says Georgie.

@@toddstevens13 The whole timeline for Sheldon going to college and George dying is a bit hinkey. In Season 1 episode 11 TBBT, Sheldon says he was in Spain at age 15 and Mary had to leave him there and go home to help George repair their storm damaged home. So George may not have died at Sheldon's age 14.

The biggest issue is the fact that no one ever told Sheldon anything. He was a young genius and had to move and grow up super fast and never even developed most social skills, even as an adult they never told him anything that went wrong until now. As smart as he was, if he knew his family was a mess he definitely could’ve done something.

@@williambrown8686 Sheldon didn't even help the family with chores around the house other than doing their taxes (since he enjoys doing that.) What makes you think Sheldon would've been more than willing to help out? Georgie's issue with Sheldon was that he didn't bother to check in with the family, see how things were and what not. He was always self-absorbed in his academics and didn't care to do other stuff that he wouldn't benefit from. He was always looking out for himself.

Eventhough sheldon was never confirmed autistic, I know what it's like to have a sibling turn caregiver. I was visiting my old highschool when I overheard my sister say " you dont know her. My sister was bullied for years and she never was the same. She cant help being different." It took all I could not to cry. How my little sister lied on the floor next to me during a scary meltdown until my mother got there. How she threatened my fiance should he ever hurt me . I am about to be in sheldon's shoes when I get married this year and my "georgie" is going to be right there like she always is.

Sheldon was tested as a child in texas and told he wasn't crazy. So he was tested in the 80's/early 90's when mental health awareness was even worse? Sheldon got tested once and keeps falling back on that as a defense because he know's he's not typical.

I see alot myself in Georgie, eldest of 3 and I unfortunately had to become the man of the house at 19, taking on all the responsibility that my parents should've, had to drop my college plans to cleanup the mess my parents caused. My younger siblings were kept away from the mess, and like sheldon didn't appreciate me.

Same kind of boat. 12-18 I had to raise the kids while dad worked out of town for 3 months at a time and mom worked 12 hour shifts at the hospital an hour away (14 hour days for her). One brother absulutly despises me. One is finally starting to open up to me. My sister and I get along great.
