Because religion is usually against progression, what with the rules being set and adjusted to about a hundred to thousands of years ago. Christian people are still allowed to marry, have children, donate blood and enter the country.

Unfortunately it is not uncommon to see such an attitude amongst a certain type of Christain (and I assume believers of other faiths). I, not terribly long ago, had one fundamentalist tell me after I expressed my agreement with the data and consensus on evolution that I am free to believe what is wrong. Well duh, of course I do, but my interest is in aligning my beliefs with reality. He did not see it the same way and I think was puzzled why I laughed for so long and so hard.

MrObble you don't seem to understand evolution. Not that im surprised though. We didn't "came from monkeys", we share a common ancestor which is a big difference. We are also not "more evolved" than a monkey or a fish or anything else for that matter, because evolution has no "goal". Random genetic mutations happen, which may be positive, negative, or neutral for the effected organism's survival before passing on its genes. Organisms which have gotten positive changes in some way depending on its habitat are more likely to spread its genes, thus the probability of these mutations surviving get higher.

sam yousif Cancer can result from mutations of proto-oncogenes and tumor suppressors, but there's more to mutation than just cancer. Mutations occur in the womb during transcription of your DNA and can cause differences in protein production. These differences in proteins (and therefore tissues) cause the individual to be more or less likely to reproduce and pass their genes onto the next generation. That's very basic evolution.

i dont mean to be mean but cancer is only one form of mutation, many forms of mutation can occur and not only in cells, cancers mutation causes cells to indefinitely separate, but there are other mutations such as elephantiasis, and albinism, thats just cells, when we look into chromosomes mutations happen there as well which can cause a person to gain a chromosome which sadly leads to mental degradation, point is mutations arent specific to cells like cancers are, and most mutations that evolution talks about are heretic mutations

I have Christian beliefs and the CosmicSkeptic here gave good arguments against Mario. Mario does need better arguments with some evidence for his arguments. But this debate as we all know has been done over and over along with the atheist vs Christian arguments. The whole idea that just because no one observed something does not mean it didn't happen, we could also argue just because there is no sufficient evidence for God does not mean he does not exist. Also just because there are many miss shaped skulls does not mean that is evidence that proves transition with Evolution. But people can go round and round as many have with this. There are actually intelligent Christians that have debated this a little more intelligently then Mario presented here. I was actually cracking up at Mario when he was laughing.

Rick, you're missing the point that there is a ton of evidence, beyond misshapen skulls, for evolution. There is a lot of evidence that has been observed. I've yet to see a good debate on intelligent design, which is one large argument from ignorance.

Confessions of an Improv GM What about the irreducible complexity argument? The bacterial flagella argument, etc. I always hear there is this mountain of evidence for Evolution. Some yes because change can be observed. But millions of years I'm not convinced. Nor that our ancestors were animals. Not convinced, but to each their own. I don't think it can be fully proved other wise we wouldn't have this argument. My comment was just to point out that even though I'm not an atheist he made a good video for people who are skeptical of Evolution. Does not mean I'm going to change my mind over the so called mountains of evidence argument.

The problem with both this video and the examples you're bringing up is that they're really bad examples. DNA shows common ancestry. Irreducible complexity is not only an argument from ignorance, it's been shown to be false when it comes to the bacterial flagella. This is the equivalent of trying to argue the helio-centric model of the sun/earth relationship today. We know better. And the video, in many places, lies about what people are saying and shows a shocking amount of scientific ignorance. A good video wouldn't be so untruthful or using arguments that have already been dismantled.

i just watched this SE vid of a guy 100% god exists and 100% faith, he was asked what would happen if we had 100% proof god existed, he said "if you(!) were 100% certain god existed it would make you behave solely to get you to heaven, in other words your acts wouldn't be sincere" i'm having trouble unpacking this but shouldn't the optimal position on faith be 50% - so you have to act sincerely (pascals wager) but still have the test be valid, and, he's 100% certain god exists, but obviously he's acting with sincerity, his knowledge is impartial - he's implying god is both watching him and not watching him at the same time. this brought ME to the conclusion that if god wants you to act sincerely, we wouldn't have ANY NOTION that he existed, we're all acting unnaturally (when you get told you'll burn in hell, whatever your belief you can't unhear that).

@Tel Aviv well i have time, and i dont call you idiot but you should do a little bit more research. big bang theory doesn't say that there was nothing. Big bang theory says that there was singularity. What we can measure is the cosmic background noise from the big bang and what is also important to understand the big bang theory is the quantum gravity and general theory of relativity. And maybe you should start with the scientific definition of a theory. Btw. qubits quantum technology is already in development phase. So if you are interested in science watch out, it's damn interesting. Belief what ever you want, nature and science doesnt care, our genetics are already decrypted (human Genom project) and that knowledge is part of criminology and medicine since 15 years and We have 95-98% the same DNA Nucleotides like Bonobos and chimpanzees. All modern medicals get tested before on mammals for just one reason...we are mammals too. And of course stay critical, if you find contradictions then proof it. That's what science does. There is no part of the theory that suggests anything of the sort. The big bang is merely the earliest point in our cosmological history that we can make any sort of evidence based statement about. The chance for that being true is very small and I sure as hell calculate it properly but just imagine, lol. God is probably gonna create a TV show about it "The dipshits" or something like that, and he would broadcast it through all of creation so that all can see us and tremble. It's a metaphorical "PIRATES BEWARE" sign, just replace pirates with "humans who didn't believe in me and maybe had a laugh at me as well BEWARE". Just imagine. Nah, I don't see it.

"The universe is so complex that it requires a creator" welp, by that logic a god would be infinitely more complex compared to a universe, who made that god? and then who made the maker of god, it just goes on and on and by their logic there would have had to be an original being that came from nothing, the same thing that they refute the big bang as coming from nothing (which i don't believe, i think there was something before the rapid expansion of our universe). it just folds in on itself.

lester brown exactly! and at least we can confidently say we don't really know the definite answer instead of just making one up to justify existence. just because we don't know how exactly everything came into being that does not justify a god, if anything it's more plausible to say that any god is a creation of the big bang (if there is one) same as us and the rest of the universe; that gets more into philosophy rather than science but it's still fun to speculate.

it doesn't take faith to believe in evolution, was that a joke? evolution is observable through practically all living things, it's genetic mutations that gives species a leg up in survival. we can see this in skin pigmentation, to either help block out the sun (dark skin) or lighter skin to absorb the suns rays (lighter skin) it isn't something that happens during one persons life.

saulm453 what you just did was evidence denial, evolution isn't one species just completely changing into another, that's called rapid evolution and is seldom if ever actually observed. Evolution IS the adaption of a species to either suit climate, food source, location ect. hence how we know that unlike our other primate cousins we adapted our bodies for long distance travel eg. stronger leg muscles, changing from quadrupedal to bipedal. i don't think you know how evolution works friend.

Built on logic? Is there a God or no God? *Let's look at some of the laws of logic* and everyone can make their own decision. I'm not trying to convert anyone. I'm simply putting forth school physics. 1st Law of Thermodynamics - "matter or energy, cannot be created or destroyed, they can only change." The Big Bang was confirmed True by the cosmic background radiation in space, telling us our universe was Not always here. So the beginning of our universe breaks the first natural Law with a fantastic explosion of material, sound, and energy *all from absolutely nothing.* This is only logical by a supernatural force. Supernatural only meaning superior to what is natural; An entity separate from our logic. Because according to the 1st Law of logic, our universe should not be here. There is something quite illogical that happened here, *perhaps from a logical Creator that was always here.* I would not logically say there is no God or Creator. It's rational to believe there is one.

Not just God but his preferred version of a God. Probably a white Caucasian male that had a son called Jesus Christ and is usually the preferred indoctrinated Religion in the US and Europe... Wonder if he ever thinks about his high chances of landing in Hell. So many different Religions I wonder how he can be sure that his preferred version of God is the correct one. .

I get that question of "Well, where did we come from?" We didn't know where rain came from, but that doesn't mean anytime there is not an answer we have discovered yet does not mean god must exist in that unanswered spot. God went from living in caves, to living on a mountain, to the sky, and then space, and now to another plane of existence because as long as they upgrade his physical inaccessibility god can keep being claimed as a true being

Atheists are always fearful of the toughest arguments against evolutionary theory, such as the total absurdity in believing that the male and female reproductive systems evolved by themselves over time. Atheists have virtually no moral courage.

Watching this again, years later, I can only hope that everyone who saw the original video found the presenter as annoying and unconvincing as I did. Mocking something without providing valid reasons and viable alternatives is the behaviour of the playground.

The fact of this pull, called gravity, is not a theory it's an observation. Theory of gravity describes the nature and characteristics of this pull. So one may not believe in the theory of gravity and still be consistent with the fact that objects are falling down.

Vigilant Christian: "We can't possibly know who the murderer is because no one witnessed it" Vigilant Scientist: "we have DNA, shoeprints and a murder weapon with finger prints we can probably..." Vigilant Christian: "ha silly foolish person that requires faith. Unless you observed it, you can't prove it happened. Also faith is only bad when it's not specific to my religion"

We are most disturbed by things in others that we can least afford to see in ourselves. I think it was Freud who said it.
