The Biblically Informed Case Against Homosexuality: Voddie Baucham

The second session from Semper Reformanda 2014, Dr. Voddie Baucham follows his presentation of "Gay is NOT the New Black" with a call to defend the Bible from the cultural onslaught that comes from those promoting the homosexual agenda. Dr. Baucham teaches believers how to apply the Scriptures to the homosexual debate in a winsome and powerful way.
About the 2014 Semper Reformanda Conference:
The debate over homosexuality is arguably the most important moral issue of our day. Unfortunately, there isn't much of a debate anymore. Even those who oppose things like "Same Sex Marriage" still hold to views and ideas that undermine the very foundation of their biblical worldview. Moreover, the call for tolerance and 'being nice' only serve to further alienate those Christians who dare to expose and confront the truth. Something has to change! And that's exactly why we did this series. In it, you will learn just how far-reaching this issue is. You'll also learn where, why, and how the current trends started, and why they've been so successful. Finally, you will learn how to address this issue in conversations with those who oppose biblical truth using a clear, cogent, winsome apologetic. This series won't answer all your questions; that's not the goal. It will, however, set you on firm ground and open your eyes. It will also point you to Christ and the Gospel as our hope. ~ Voddie Baucham Jr.

Genesis 9:9-17:
Behold, I establish my covenant with you and your offspring after you, 10 and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark; it is for every beast of the earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: 13 I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” 17 God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

This man's heart is pure. At the end you can see the tears flowing, because it hurts the soul seeing these things happening. The same with the prophets. When something touched them deeply they tore their own clothes. Elijah and the other prophets never stood back for God's Word. They preached it no matter the consequence. May God be with Voddie for his whole life. You are doing good my brother.

Thank you Voddie. My own life bears witness to the biblical truth you affirm. I am a born-again believer who struggled with the sin of same-sex attraction post new birth. This is not an excuse for my sin, but it is imperative to share how the church, for the most part, dealt with same-sex attraction in the early years post my conversion (1966) and still does. I am 76 years old and know firsthand how the church did not know how to deal with believers like me. Instead, we were farmed out to so-called ex-gay ministries, such as Exodus; they all imploded because they were steeped in Freudian psychology and not biblical truth. We were promised healing from a sin of the flesh - and God does not heal sin. Consequently, many believers who struggled with same-sex attraction (a sinful desire of the flesh), failing to find the promised healing, gave up and resigned to living as gay men and women (This is not an excuse for sinning.). I did for eight years. I've written a book that chronicles my journey, how I repented, left the "gay culture" and have learned to biblically deal with the sin of same-sex attraction and desires of the flesh in general. I did it by crying out to God for understanding through his Word. He honored that cry! The book is titled: "Glorified Rubble: Rebuilding the True You." I've learned: (1) There is no such thing as a "gay orientation." It is a sin orientation that is a manifestation of the effects of The Fall (original sin) which distorted all of humankind; (2) Sigmund Freud - a God-hater - invented the idea of sexual orientation: one's sexual desires determine personhood; he and his associates also coined the words heterosexual and homosexual. To side with Freud is to both sin against and insult God by replacing His creation ordinance (Gen. 26-28) with Freud's blasphemy; (3) Through regeneration of new birth, we are created new creatures in Christ, but it does not eradicate the desires of the flesh: the need for on-going personal sanctification; and the same is true of same-sex attraction; (4) One of the benefits of being crucified with Christ (Rom. 6) is our will, which was enslaved to the sin nature we inherit from Adam, is freed to be exercised in obedience to God the moment we are born again (Martin Luther taught this.); (5) God does not heal the appetites of the flesh to make us obedient (a general misconception); God expects us to actively engage our "freed will" in putting these appetites to death through obedience, which allows the Holy Spirit to do the inner change (Rom. 8:13, 29): obedience brings change and not the other way around (Rom. 6:19); Rom. 6, 7 and 8 is the blueprint for biblical change and growth. I recommend John MacArthur's book: "Hacking Agag to Pieces." He unpacks how the sins of the flesh are to be put to death post new birth. (6) To call oneself a gay Christian is to identify with a sin of the flesh, even if not acted on: a prison. It is a serious sin against Jesus who took our punishment so we can identify ourselves in Him as our righteousness, not our sin. And the romantic feelings of same-sex attraction are as sinful as the lust. They are unnatural affections and one of the signs of the end times (2Tim: 3:1-5); (7) Sanctifying our minds in God's word, on-going repentance combined with on-going obedience, and trusting the Holy Spirit to do the inner work is the biblical way to deal with same-sex attraction and all desires of the flesh, the road to biblical change: conformed to the image of Christ (Rom. 8:29). It leaves no room for willing living a lifestyle of engaging in same-sex sex practices (including gay marriage) and being conformed to the image of Christ. Such a notion is heresy!

A most deep look and analysis of the full scope of it. Thank you for your insights. Boiled down, it is all "I'm a victim" which was started in the garden of Eden. When Freud called sin "Disease" it gave an excuse to be that victim and not the perpetrator of sinfulness which offends God and damages others.

I finally found this sermon again! I wanted to passionately THANK YOU Voddie for preaching such a clear concise sermon that I’ve been longing to hear for a LONG time. I felt that slowly over time God was knocking on my door and this sermon finally did it where he knocked loud enough that I heard it, and I opened the door! THIS broke me completely as a wretched horrible sinner and I broke down and cried out to the Lord and he saved me from the bondage of homosexuality, same sex attraction, and pornography that I did for over a decade. Finally, I was saved and born again on February 10, 2024 the night I listened to this sermon in full. My life has COMPLETELY transformed since then and all the glory goes to our Heavenly Father for giving this wretched wicked sinner grace and transformative power through his word. God bless you Voddie and thank you Jesus Christ for saving me! As a testimony to you all, Christ doesn’t just love us, he saves us! John 3:16 ✝️

Here some truth for you, some scientific facts about homosexuality: + The WHO, World Health Organization, stated clearly, that homosexuality not a disease or disorder, but a healthy natural sexual orientation. + It is most likely innate (determined by SNP in several genes and by antibodies (NLGN4Y) during pregnancy), as the opposite sex is never sexual attractive to people born homosexual. + Evolution scientists stated in several publications, that homosexuality exists since sexuality exists, since 385 million years. + They also stated, that having homosexual members in the own tribe, gives several evolutionary advantages, which explains the permanent share of 4-10% homosexuals of the population. >> So, the question would be rather: why putting an ethical limit on homosexuality if its natural, healthy and even with a natural sense? >> Especially now as more and more homosexuals marry and adopt and raise kids that else wise would have no parents.

As an 18 year old who's gay: I don't know how to make the older generation understand (includin g my parents): It's not a choice. We don't want this. No gay person has ever found out that they were gay and responded positively. It doesn't HAVE to be that way. But when the two biggest religions in the world totaling over 4 billion people think you should go to hell for who you find attractive it makes it an incredibly stressful, loathing, and fearful process. I beat myself up mentally over being gay for years and fought it in ways that was ultimately pointless and unhealthy because I thought that I was doing what God and my parents would want. On top of that, tying correlations between homosexuality and stuff like pedophilia is the whole reason why many times gay kids don't talk to their parents about it. Who would want to be accused by their own parents of being on the same level as a pedophile?! I can't 'choose' to be straight anymore than you can 'choose' to be gay. It's a reductive line of thought to assume so.

@@irmaosmatos4026 The primary difference being that you can't prove being gay is sinful as it doesn't even lie under the moral sphere. The only reason people think it's bad is because supposedly a God (who cannot be proven to exist) has an opinion (an opinion that cannot be verified even if he did exist) that says that he thinks homosexuality somehow disrupts his holy way of doing things. (not providing an explaination on why it's actually bad or how it harms anyone) For any other sin, you can show directly how it's a bad thing. All the other sins (that I can think of) make sense to not do. But someone loving someone else is somehow wrong? What bad thing results from it? Do I really have to die alone someday without a partner because God just 'doesn't like it'? That's a huge thing to ask of someone, especially with nothing to back it up except a book which doesn't clarify as to how it's wrong. I don't want to attack you, because I don't think that's productive, but I want to make sure you understand what you are saying: 1. I will never be able to go on dates 2. I will never be able to cook, take care of, play games with, work with, sleep with, or have fun with someone who I could spend the rest of my life with. 3. I will die celibate 4. Never marry 5. Beat myself up more mentally because the attraction won't just 'go away' 6. Some awesome dude is going to miss out on a great husband (me) because I must 'remain pure' 7. I'm probably going to end up living alone and have few (if any) friends because people don't really have friends in their 30's since they themselves are married. 8. I'll statistically have a much higher chance of being depressed, suicidal, and anti-social among a pile of other things. Why? Because God said so. "Why don't you just trust God? Why is it so hard to just not be gay?" Do you see how silly this sounds in the face of meaninglessly dashing someone's love in the future?

@@th3logician I mean, you can watch the video if you wanna know why being gay is a sin. So I'll just answer your questions. 1. Yes, theoretically. 2. Most of these things you can do with someone without being your husband, dude. 3. Yes, but this the recommended by the bible anyway for people working with God, marriage is just so people can have sons and control lust. 4. Same question as before. 5. Uhh, not true. You'll have Jesus fighting with you, he gives you supernatural strenght, in him you will be truly free. 6. If I'm right and not wrong you're actually dodging a bullet. So this all goes back to the question of "is being gay sinful", go watch the video for it. 7. Ehh, missing things for God is actually a good thing, according to the Bible. Everyone actually does it, and once you're a man of God the situation changes and you'll find new friends. 8. Religious people actually have a smaller chance of suicide. Being gay your chance is already bigger than normal, so I believe it will be the opposite. Your final argument is meaningless if your first premisse is not true, so again, go watch the video.

Another argument when it is claimed that the Bible doesn’t really say homosexuality is a sin: the scriptures are VERY clear that fornication is a sin and therefore any sex outside of marriage is a sin and it is also clear in scripture that a marriage is holy only between a man and a woman. Therefore, even if they want to claim that homosexuality isn’t a sin, they can rest assured that ANY sex, whether homosexual or heterosexual outside of a God sanctioned marriage in a most definitely a sin.

Paul, who cipied it from Leviticus? Leviticus: a political motivated text of the Hebrews to justify their overtake of the land of the Canaanites: "You shall not wear the beard in a tip" (as the Canaanites did), "you shall not wear clothes with mixed fabrics" (as the Canaanites did), "a man shall not lay with a man" (or correctly translated : "a man shall not lay with a temple prositute", as the Canaanites did in their fertility cult). Romans, Corinthians: Paulus, who had a hard time to keep his communities together overtook some, not all (! cherry picking!) of those man made rules in the NT and presented again man made rules as "divine" rules to give them more impact and to make sure his people follow them.

I fought against my sinful flesh. I still do and always will …..

Well I don't understand religious faith, to me it always felt insane to imagine that some people can read the bible, tarot cards or any other superstitious stuff and not go "heh this was a cool made up stuff". It's almost like attraction is an inalienable part of one's soul, just like their faith. What is super sad though is that there are preachers who will say that people's love, God's greatest gift to humanity is somehow sinful.

I am so glad you made this video . I have several relatives friends and co work workers who are gay, and they do tend to come on very sweet, kind, loving, bubbly, helpful the life of the party as you say, and we do love them but also the desensitized thing that you were sent talking about is absolutely true because we don’t wanna offend them, and that’s what Jesus would do so we do in love, but what they are trying to do is get us to agree with their lifestyle and disagree with biblical teachings .I will never do that because my heart is deeply rooted in the Bible. We let them know we love them but your walk with God is your cross to bear my walk with God is my cross to bear. We are all sinners and fall short .for homosexual to believe that what they’re doing is not sinful that’s the problem. Amen and God bless you.

Yeah, it's one thing to be a sinner, and be aware of it (and maybe hate yourself about it) but it's a whole 'nother thing to twist Scripture to make one's lifestyle be OK. On judgment day, God isn't gonna honor the 'loopholes' we think we found.

This is such a crucial topic to discuss and the way it was in this video especially towards the end is also just as crucial and said just right. We need to remember there are people who struggle with this because they are sexual abuse victims. We also need to remember what is the Love of God and how the world will know we are the true church if indeed we are the true church. John chapter 13 verses 34 and 35 says ‘A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.’ ‘By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another’. The reason this is so important is not only for the well being of the body of Christ, but also that those who are not saved may know who Jesus and His followers truly are. I mention these verses in scripture is with this topic of homosexuality there are people who genuinely desire God but do not know Him and do not know His character- they often get a false Jesus presented to them by heretics, and are so broken and are so destroyed that they can barely function and they get often a rough person who unloving and unchrist-like (these often are likely not true believers, but also the world can have an tarnishing effect on us as believers so we can fall into this sin as well) and instead of being loving to nonbelievers who are seeking Christ or even who are seeking Him but don’t know it, are battered by a person who breaks the bruised reed and who claims the name of Christ. Now I want to make it clear that I don’t think this is the case with true Bible believers but I see all too often in the majority of professing Christians in America (where anyone can be a Christian no matter what they believe which is false) this ‘us versus them mentality’ and it’s divisive and destructive. We are called to expose the deeds of evil not to create division where it is not needed.light and darkness have no fellowship let it just be that contrast that makes the line in the sand. Now for those in the homosexual revolution who are not seeking Christ and are hostile they reveal themselves for who they are and scripture also talks about that as well, how a persons true nature can be shown about them even now, those people solidify themselves enemies of the cross and it is them that must be the propulsion of divisiveness and hatred-else we be not like our savior who told us to love and pray for our enemies. Please brothers and sisters as Romans chapter 12 says ‘do not repay evil with evil but overcome evil with good’ I hope this will be an encouragement and a reminder that we do not war against flesh and blood but principalities, spiritual darkness, ideas that are against the knowledge of God. This sermon is a great example of that and may it be just that to us and an encouragement as it was for me. Thank you pastor Voodie Buachum for your faithfulness to the purposes of Gods kingdom, it has been a blessing to see you challenge the evil in our day and to do so with courage and love that only God can give. God bless you all my brothers and sisters and may Gods peace be within you. I love you all.

My friend I’m sorry that you feel so bitter towards the truth. When I said homosexuals being abused that wasn’t a blanket statement. If I recall I said ‘some’ but if not that is what I was meaning to type. As far as the Bible contradicting itself-if you look at the verses that you suspect contradictions and you examine them in context as well as humble yourself to learn and understand and seek God to save you so that the HolySpirit can teach you (for no one can understand the Bible unless they are saved and taught of God) then and only then will you see and know that the Bible does not contradict itself. I will pray for you, that you would be saved from a life that destroys you as is 5@the case of any life ruled by any sin and that you may know peace and the prince of peace.
