Here's the new Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro X Limited Edition review. For a $40 upcharge, we're getting a detachable cable, more comfortable headband, and the Stellar 45 drivers that have better detail and are easier to drive. This makes one of my favorite closed backs even better.

770 Pro was my first decent pair, it's an absolute legend. I recommended it to a ton of friend who still rock it to this day. This release with removeable cable is the icing on the cake, I used to manually add this port in the past.

Mine is the Philips Fidelio X2HR paired with a Soundblaster G3. I still have it and have exactly 1 day to return these. Actually I only a have a couple of hours. What you think? Should I "upgrade"?! Any recommendation to the X2HR? I like these a lot. bassy and tons of fun. Even crazier with the EQ in the amp. It's all a budget target, got these x2hr under a hundred and the dac just for thirty. One thing I do not particularly understand is the open back perks, I don't seem to notice significant differences between open and closed back.

Hey brother, can you help me understand how the stack up against the 1770 I own the 770 250’s the 1990s the 900 600 ohms and several other pairs of headphones as well. Right now I’m using my 770 pros for my electronic drum set and they sound decent but I would like a little more isolation and maybe some more stereo separation so I’m looking for an upgrade. I really love my 1990s so I’m really curious to see if the 1770s would be a worthy upgrade.

I've been enjoying my DT 1990 Pros for almost 4 years now and the only issues I've had are that the service kit cable (that connects the drivers together) has finally shorted out. However, I've got a cable replacement on the way and it's a very simple fix that you can do by yourself without having to do any soldering. The only reason the cable is even shorted is due to one of my pets getting caught under my desk, snagging the cable and yanking my headphones off my head onto the floor abruptly a couple of times. I expect to keep using these cans for at least another decade without having to service them much if at all.

Two things... If I needed to replace my 770 Pro, I would grab these without hesitation based on your review. Heck, it was your review that turned me onto the 770 Pros in the first place. ;) The second thing, however, is that BD has stopped selling the replacement headband cushions that fit these. I know because the "leather" recently started peeling off in one spot on mine and the only available replacements were from 3rd party suppliers, and they're the exact same or poorer "quality" than the original. I recommend, and am currently using, a removable/washable cover that goes over the headband cushion to keep it from flaking/peeling away. Thanks for the killer review as always!

Anyone who ever had and liked the tuning of the original DT 770 Pro should avoid the new "Limited Edition". I have both and do not like the sound tunning of the new one... 🤔 WHY? The bass feels boomy (and loose), mid range sounds artificial. Both male and female voices have a sharp and thin character. The whole sound signature has this slight an un-natural and boxy feel. It even sounds less open and spacious than the original. It's not a bad closed back headphone for the price... but does not make me listen more and more music (unlike the original) . Even gaming sounds less engaging to me. I like your reviews though.👍👍👍

Why did they use these new drivers?! They should have kept the 80 and 250 Ohm drivers, but now it's definitely a pass. The new drivers are just overdampened and dull, even though the treble is still sharp. Would have gotten it if it came with the old 80 Ohm driver.

I prefer the new driver, as he said it changes a lot of things for the better and moves some of the peaks to a different area that people might prefer.

@@burns0100I wonder how much of that is down to pad wear on his old 770. Beyers tend to relax a fair bit in the treble as the pads break in. Plus you've got the notoriously bad beyer unit variation, so taking a single measurement as gospel might not tell the full story. But ignoring that and taking these measurements at face value, it would look like a downgrade to most people. An even bigger chunk scooped out of the upper bass and lower mids, more recessed upper mids, and even peakier treble.

@@chrisk3127 In the "Pro" line up of 770, 880, 990 the 880 is much newer (ignoring the "vintage" model which is completely different). The reason why I call then browns is because you get neither the benefits of the 770 or the 990. Its a headphone that sounds exactly fine. Just like browns which were made because a large enough company essentially wanted blues that didn't click. Take away the click and you lose a large amount of the perceived tactility (they could have addressed this but didn't as clears already existed). Same sort of thing happens with the 880's and its part of the reason why they often get recommended as a common audiophile headphone, there's nothing bad but also nothing especially great. They're a product made for a market to fill a gap. You'll also notice there is no 1880 or 800 Pro X. Both the 770 and 990 are better at their respective duties than the 880 is at either. Want a amazing separation and sound stage to the point where its nearly detrimental to enjoying music, 990. Want a solid closed back monitoring headphone on par with Sony, Senn, and AKG for recording, live music, podcasting, etc, 770. Don't get me wrong I wont say its a bad headphone as there are many worse ones you can choose, especially for the money. Its just a very conservative pick. Put all 3 models from the line in front of people to try and the majority wont pick the 880's, I have done it with friends. Only one ended up with the 880 600ohm's and a dac/amp for them. It was also their first pair of headphones that wasn't a gaming headset.
