beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro X Limited Edition Review - Celebrating 100 Years, but is it good?
Ғылым және технология
The beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro X Limited Edition uses drivers from the more expensive DT 700 and 900 Pro X models released a couple years ago. To celebrate 100 years of beyerdynamic, the new 770 Pro X flaunts a special callout on the headband, while also adding features people asked for, such as a mini-XLR connection for less than $200. In this review, I cover everything from comfort to sound quality!

Thanks. I'm still debating, as some people will have a negative opinion as soon as they see an affiliate link. I'll regardless of what I decide, I'll be very objective/fair with whatever I cover. That was the whole point of the channel in the first place - to be trustworthy
I feel you have proven yourself to be an honest and unbiased reviewer over the years. So I think you should do whatever you can for the channel to make more money because it will not change how you review products going forward. 🙌🏽❤️🙌🏽 💰💵💸

I bought the EPOS GSX 1000 Second Edition based on this channels reviews and I’m super happy with my purchase. Everything that was mentioned (pros and cons) were spot on with my experience with the product. There were no surprises when I received the product, because the review was not only honest, but informative. Nothing was left out.
I personally believe if you keep your reviews honest and grounded, then you should be rewarded for all your hard work and efforts through 'affiliate ' links. Thank you very much for this review and introduction to this equipment. Much appreciated. Stay well, Sir.

It’s a tough question to answer. You def deserve to get kick backs. What drew me to your channel over other channels is your honesty and unbiased opinion. I never felt like you were over hyping a product just because it was sent to you or because you wanted to push people to it for the kick backs.

At this point I think you have earned some sponsored placements on your channel given you have stayed critical of the products you review over the years which is the hard route when you could just say everything is good and rack in the free shit/compensation from the companies like 99% of these youtubers have been doing. More money means more content potentially, we are here for it. Appreciate you Joe.

Thanks! I always avoid the term "sponsored" because it suggests some form of money was exchanged or their was a prior agreement. beyerdynamic was great in that they had zero input/asks for the video. They just sent it for review, no questions asked. I only review products from companies that have a neutral approach, but the affiliate stuff is a way to earn a kickback if it's a desirable product. I just didn't want people to think it was "desirable" because I got a kick back. If I add any affiliate links in the future, I'll be sure to prove/maintain objectivity and trustworthiness as well. Thanks for the support!

@@GadgetryTechif it wasn't desirable, would you still put an affiliate link with the content? If not then it doesn't matter. You only affiliate for products you think are worth it aka you don't want to profit from products you don't appreciate. So yes you putting an affiliate link up means you get a percentage of every kickass product sold... But if it is kick ass, your viewers would have bought it anyway. You saved them a google search 😂 And if you put links for products you like better 👍 the gaming beyer is a nice find. Using a 700 pro x here, very happy. Next target is a hedd 2.0 😂

Hey great video review. First time watching you and it's on my favorite headphones ever. Keep up then good work. 🤘
Glad to see you review this! I JUST got these headphones today! I put on the Dekoni Elite Hybrid earpads and then used the Oratory1999 EQ preset he made for the 770 80ohm (seems the 770 Pro X and 770s have same frequency response). It sounds amazing! I love the Harman curve! I was blown away by how music sounds! Didn't sound blunted like the 700 Pro X and 900 Pro X, but the instrument separation and imaging is so good. I think it's even better than the TYGR 300R! The 770 Pro X's are so spacious it sounds like an open back almost!

Yes! This is exactly the take i have. When picking between headphones, you can EQ a little too your preference, but you can't change the physical fit, driver quality or style.
Nice upgrade. Especially the detachable cable. I've always been a little weary of the treble in the Beyer's though. DT1990 Pro were the best Beyer I ever heard with a Dekoni pad swap for more Bass and smoother treble. And they are built like a tank
Have you used the Pulse Elites recently since your review? Do you think they will be apart of your FPS headset list later this year?
I am all for affiliate links. I don't think that they put any weight on whether you like a product or not, especially with someone I trust like you. Always appreciate your input.
Hey Joe, if we have different IEMs not listed on the Warzone tuning page, what would you recommend we use for an EQ in Equalizer APO?
Affiliate links are no problem at all. I wouldn't do marketing unless you bring out your own product in cooperation. But providing an easy link for those who would like to buy it should never be a problem. And I rather you get a cut than it all going to the brand. 😂 I just subscribed 👍
I'm subbed and fully endorse use of affiliate links and sponsored videos.
I don't see a problem with having affiliate links and such as long as the review is not biased because of it. I've been watching your videos for a few months, just because I like them, but I'm not too into audio. It's great to see a neutral and objective review channel like yours, so I I think you deserve the extra income you might get from collabs like that
As long as your opinion or review are unbiased which is generally lacking nowadays in media/journalism, I think having kick back links to support the channel is fine. As it will help you review more things and help us get your point of view of those items. Also, would love for you to review DT 1990 pro and DT 900 pro X , couldn’t find it on the channel. I love the comfort of this brand, would like your take on sound quality on those.

Another great review. My thoughts on sponsorships … I’m fine with them, especially if the sponsor is not from the manufacturer / provider of the item being reviewed. So, for a headphone review it can be sponsored by an DAC/AMP brand that you used to test the cans with, or by a cable brand etc. Same with DAC review, sponsor with a cable supplier.

Hey, so I have the DT770 Pro 80ohms that I bought back in 2018, it's still good, but I have a question. Paired with an iFi Zen DAC, for gaming, the volume just isn't loud enough at low gain, and when I hit the high gain button, it distorts when I up the dial. It sounds okay on Spotify because it's louder, but in games it's much quieter, and the distortion is killing the experience that I'm rather sticking with my Kiwi Ears Melody and EM6l IEMs. Will an amp sort the issue or could there be something wrong with the headphones? To be clear, distortion only happens in high gain mode max volume on my Zen DAC and not on low gain.
@warrensnook
Ай бұрын
I have exactly the same headphones as you. What you have to remember is the DT770 are single ended and the 80ohm has a sensitivity of 96db which makes them quite hard to drive. It sounds like your amplifier doesn't have enough power to drive them to their full potential. Options would be a more power amplifier or have your DT770's converted to balanced 🙏
Wish someone compared the sony mv1 vs senn 490 pro vs 660s2 vs aune ar5000 & also this i know this is half the price & closed but i still wanted just in general comparison of comparableish studio designs & which is great for audiophile listening & not studio work?

Could you make a video about EQ on pc and android?
Based on your consistent provision of honest reviews over time, it's evident that incorporating affiliate links could be beneficial for the channel. However, I suggest including non-affiliate links alongside them, allowing viewers to make purchases without any associated kickbacks. As demonstrated in this video, presenting both options fosters transparency and ensures unbiased recommendations. I concur with your stance on avoiding sponsored content, as it may compromise the integrity of your opinions by introducing external influences aimed at swaying reviewer perspectives.
If I use these on a ps5 controller is there a way to still use a mic
I've been listening to these for a while today, and I think the only thing that I don't think I'm of the same opinion about is that I don't find these to be unresolving. I'm listening on an SMSL SU-8S/SH-8S stack, and I'm finding the detail and resolution to be really good. Better than I remember my DT 990 Pro being, but I don't have it here to compare. Detail-wise, it feels to me like it's competing pretty well with things I have in the $200-$300 range (HD6XX and Fiio FT3). I had another cheap closed back, the R7-DX from Hifiman that I think has maybe a little better soundstage, but the DT770 Pro X has better extension on the bass, and it's nice and clean. Punch Brothers version of "Another New World" at 2:45 when the bass plays a long drawn out note, it's nice and clean on the Beyerdynamic. Drivers seem pretty fast to me. Anyway, thanks for another detailed review. Have you considered including your source(s) on the videos? Might give a little perspective if there are differing opinions on the subjective side of things...
can you try the new turtle beatch 600 heatset?
Thought the TYGR 300 R are based on the DT 990 Pro, except they have slightly dampened treble.
Link to the headphone stand?
How they sound compared to DT 770 Pro 250Ohm?
the old 770s and lg v50 phone ftw
Literally the most perfect headphone out of the whole DT series imho! Peak Beyer right here!
Is the 770 Pro X good for gaming or is there something better?
I'm too sensitive in the high range, the edition xs fatigued me in the 8k-12k region I had to pull 3 db out to really listen to them. Unfortunate that they didn't consider the old dt770 pro drivers with the removable cable and updated materials. I like the old dt770 pro 80 ohms I have, I'm going to get a removable cable mod done to the tune of the original cost I paid for the cans themselves and to me that's more worth it than buying the newer pair.
I think you further monetizing your channel would be a good thing given your track record of honesty. I have no concerns about the quality and accuracy of your work going forward as I know your integrity is not for sale.
ALRIGHT PEOPLE! ... I will write it down because everyone only sees the rainbows and puppies with this 770 PRO X, and no one is telling the truth about sound quality. I am a big fun of the old DT 770 Pro (especially the 250 ohm) and had high expectations with this "Limited Edition". I waited like 3-4 months then finally got released in my country. I bought one (on my own money). In short, I didn't like it and will return it... The sound is more closer to the DT 700 X with added spark on the top + a big boom on the low end. For a studio monitoring headphone this sounds way to bass heavy to me. The mid range and the vocals sound weird and resonating/ringing, while they are also distant and artificial. I tried loads of tracks, but after a few minutes I just put it down... I didn't enjoy listening music on it at all. You won't find the engaging and wide sound of the original DT 770 Pro here. Sometimes the sound even felt boxy and unnatural with much emphasis on the bass. To my ears these headphones just too different from the original, and do not understand how Beyerdynamic could name these as "DT 770 PROs". It is not a bad headphone by any means, but it has nothing to do with the originals. This is an EQ-ed DT 700 X with a more comfortable design. By the way, I disliked the DT 700 X too because that was way to flat and uncomfortable. After trying a few recent Beyers I realized that, the new Stellar 45 driver has no soul in it. Boooring as heck and It's hard to imagine anyone enjoying it for a long term. The DT 770 PRO X sound signature in pair with similar headphones in the same price range so it won't stand out from the crowd. I would even say that the sound tuning is close to the Audio Technica M50x, so pretty much V shaped with scooped mids. You can decide if that's a positive or negative thing... I am deeply disappointed... I do like the classy design and build quality, but this won't be my favorite and I will reach back to the old one, 80 or 250 ohms versions. This situation feels like a classic movie remake with a different actors for the today"s "standards". Not always necessary or true to the original. The new Stellar 45 driver is powerful that's the only good thing with it. Personally I don't like the direction that Beyer took with these new line of "studio" headphones. 😢

Hi, I would be interested to see a comparison between the new DT 770 Pro X and the old DT 770 Pro. I am a bit concerned about the new drivers here.... I owned the DT 700 X and think that sounded very flat and lifeless using the same drivers as the limited edition here. Comfort was also pretty much terrible. @@kutasimusic You still can EQ them to reduce the lows emphasis
The treble on the DT 1990 can be fixed in two ways either a passive filter from diyaudioheaven (solderdude) or EQ at 7700Hz, -7dB, Q 3.0 (or Q 3.5) (with Analytical pads and ymmv you might want less reduction or more). I also find the Balanced pads too boomy for my taste, but some people might like it that way as well. I also own the DT 770 Pro 80Ohm, used it for a long time and next to the DT 1990 it barely gets playtime. But still that headphone is like an old friend and one of the best closed-backs (if not the best - some people probably prefer K361 or K371), and this anniversary edition looks nice as well - shares more similarities in tuning with the DT 770 line than the DT 700 Pro X (even though it uses the same driver as the 700 Pro X).

Thanks so much for confirming my suspicions on these cans. I've been using a pair of the standard DT770 Pro 80ohms for over 10 years and decided to pre order these after the NAMM reveal. When they got here and I A/B'd them to my old pair, I absolutely HATED the siblance these produced. I got ear fatigue incredibly quickly, to the point where I thought something was wrong with these given the claim by Beyerdynamic that these were supposed to be tuned just like the standard DT770 Pros. My wife also ordered a pair and I checked hers to confirm it wasnt just a QC issue. Unfortunate because they are so physically comfortable, but when the EQ curve is so drastic on the highs that it creates uncomfortable siblance issues with songs I KNOW didnt have that and makes cymbals downright painful to listen to in any modern rock or metal, I opted to send them back within a day and go for the Sennheiser HD490 Pros.

The only thing stopping me from buying beyerdynamic headphones is the ear pads, they are basically sponges, that will absorb sweat, oils and hair products
You should have been compare it to DT770 Pro... That would be more valuable than comparing to gaming hp. DT1990 or HD600/650 are another level and also it's open back so comparing it to close back doesn't make sense.
Beyerdynamic keeps churning out V-shaped headphones and peeps still say that studio monitors are flat.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with affiliate links.
Affliate links should be fine
I have been using Beyer Dynamic for decades and I will never buy any of their low impedance headphones again. I haven't had any of their new low impedance (80ohm) headphones last more then a year. Beyer does have good warrantee but all of the 80ohm headphones stopped working in little as 6 months. The left or right side always blows out or gets distorted, the cushion wears out fairly quick. The ear pads need to be replaced to get the best sound. I love Beyer Dynamic headphones but stay away from their low impedance headphones and only buy their high impedance (250ohm and above) headphones They are amazing and have two pairs that lasted over 12 years.

Maybe i've been lucky but i have dt770 80ohm and it worked perfectly for 8 years. even after that the left headphone stopped working but i suspect it was because of improper attachment of the cable, which i could have prevented if i took better care. (if i get it fixed it might as well last several more years..)
Get a sponsor or two :)
Take the sponsorship on a product by product basis, like Gamers Nexus for PC, GN will take sponsors from products they believe are good, and refuse them from the same company if the product sucks, no brand loyalty.

Everytime you use that ruler I get insecure 😅😢
