    Was great to find this video, as it reinforces my choice of the Tomahawk WiFi ddr4. For £230 I felt it was the best bang without any unnecessary flash. I've also gone for the 12700, which I'm happy about. But feel I've let the side down with the Corsair lpx 3600mhz c18 32gb. I wish I'd known a bit more about ram before buying it. It's my first build so bound to go wrong somewhere. Have seen a couple of your vid's in the past. Finally got round to subscribing. Don't know why it took me so long. Very informative thanks.

    I'm in the process of finishing up my new build. Decided to go with MSI Z690 Carbon, Intel i7 12700kf, Corsair DDR5 5600 mhz, EVGA 3080, 2 - 1tb Crucial P5 Plus PCIe 4.0 m.2, EVGA 850 GR gold PSU, EVGA 280mm AIO cooler and the Gigabyte M28U. Got everything except the GPU under MSRP. Plan to overclock just about everything. Also going to do some testing with undervolting to see how efficient I can game in 4k. Thanks for your videos. @@kdcustoms1272 It's been great to be honest. Not a single crash. I don't play games as much as I used to but I've yet to have an issue with any of the parts. I have not tried any undervolting on the GPU yet. Been too busy. Keep it cool and you should be good to go. Overheating is the main cause of a GPU failure. My motto has been. If you think you have enough fans add another one. Also, I'll tape a small piece of paper in the case and run the fans on high. Helps get an idea of airflow and where dead spots are if any. Good luck if you choose to try again. Been running EVGA cards for the last decade without failure.

    Great video. I just paired up a 12700k with MSI Z690 Edge DDR4. Regarding RAM, which of these Samsung B-Die kits are better: 3600 14-15-15-35 1.45v or 4000 16-16-16-36 1.4v. I'm going to be manually tweaking, just wondering which one on paper or at lease in theory should have more potential. Thanks.

  • @BuildPicker

    @BuildPicker

    2 жыл бұрын

    You're splititng hairs between those RAM kits, they look virtually identical in total latency. I'd probably opt for the 4000MHz kit as you know it'll do that speed and the CPU will do Gear 1 at 4000Mhz (2000MHz memory controller speed). Then you can work timings down from there.

  • @Ben-ld1qi

    @Ben-ld1qi

    2 жыл бұрын

    @PremiumBuilds Thanks for the reply mate! Hahah yes they're very should be extremely close in latency. I don't mind bumping the voltage up to ~1.55v so I presume the timings should be able to tighten nicely. By the way I thought 4000MT/s was a little difficult with 12th Gear 1? From what I've seen most people get 3800~3900MT/s. Just don't wanna get my hopes too high. By the way I think that you really nailed the Z690 round up. I was really torn between the Tomahawk and TUF but eventually decided that for a bit more it's worth it, pretty much got everything. IMO a notch abive the TUF unless you prefer working with Asus.

    I'm wondering why the ASUS ROG Strix Z690-A Gaming WiFi D4 was not included in your review? Tentatively that is my LGA 1700 motherboard selection. The current price tag is $349 in the US. I plan on using a G.SKILL F4-3600C16D-32GTZRC memory kit. That is a 2 x 16GB kit with CL16 16-19-19-39 timing, and it is listed as compatible with the motherboard. I will also use a 1 TB M.2 SSD along with my existing drives. I will use my existing graphics card. I think that I will get a new case and power supply, but I may reuse my old setup. What is your opinion on this setup?

    Yeah, it's fine and should work well. Honestly, it was hard to pick these boards, and as I said in the video, almost all Z690 boards are 'good'. When you boil down the features/IO etc, the Rog Strix options tend to come out a little more expensive, by $50 or so, which is why they didn't get mentioned much here. But so long as you're ok with a bit of ROG tax, and the looks are worth the spend to you, that's fine. They work well.

    the big question is when will DDR5 be affordable (i.e. about the same as DDR4 for the same capacity)? And when will it be more available? It seems a bit of a screw up in the industry with Intel going so hard into DDR5. This year Zen4 will be available and that too will support DDR5 so the memory manufacturers are on the back foot, and consumers are faced with paying twice the price right now. I came to the same conclusion re: MSI Tomahawk although in the US its price is high. Is there any advantage in heat management from a white board vs black?

    This happens everytime with ram. When DDR3 and 4 came out it took some time for memory pricing to come down, then of course the older type memory goes up in price. I'm thinking with both intel and AMD launching it will be faster this time than it has in the past, but give it at least 6 months or so if not longer.

    They will perform the same. They are of the same quality. I prefer the MSI Edge, mainly because it's cheaper for the same feature set, and it has more high Speed (10GB/s ) USB A ports on the rear and more versatile PCIE Slot configuration.

    I’m disappointed to see that the Z690 Aorus Gaming Pro didn’t made it to the list. It’s the cheapest and the most well featured high end motherboard. It’s VRM configurations laughs at the Carbon and the Strix-F, while offering almost the same functions (tough it has no 2 x8 pcie configuration like the carbon) for a lot cheaper

  • @BuildPicker

    It's a strong option for sure, but I haven't seen it for sale anywhere in the US or europe, meaning I couldn't compare retail price and so judge value. The VRMs on all these boards are also a bit of a moot point IMO: They're all beyond what any normal user needs, and you're better off going with an OC specialist baord if that's your aim. It does have a fantastic amount of USB ports though!

    @@venti9925 I’ve been working with all of the motherboard brands as well as a reviewer in Hungary. Sadly non of them are perfect and all brands have minor problems, but if it comes to the best pricing, Gigabyte usually has the upper hands amongst the 4 big brands. ASUS most of the time is overpriced, lately ASRock started to follow them on the same road, despite offering boards with worse components. MSI on the other hand has always been my favorite brand, but their stuff have problems too, for example mystic light constantly crashes Windows for no reason. I’m not biased to any of the brands, mostly I’m trying to find the best value in a product. But that’s just my point of view. -Ehe-

    Why do you say their gpu is bad? I see just as many good reviews for them as any other. I did have a EVGA gpu go bad after a few years on my first build. The mobo is msi and I replaced the broke EVGA gpu with a msi. So far so good after 5 years so I'm going to stick with msi for now. The EVGA psu has been good the past 9 years tho. 😉
