In this video we are going to discuss the absolute best way to start seedlings for a tower garden. As an experienced hydroponic gardener, I've tried starting seeds every single way you can think of. From coconut core, to rockwool, to just using plain water, I've tried countless methods. The biggest lesson I've learned is that plants do not like to be shocked, so when you plan to put them in a hydroponic tower garden you want to start them in water instead of starting them in soil and then rinsing the roots to then put in a drip system.

    Super helpful. I’ve had several bad starts in rockwool due to algae. I’ll give it a try. I’m in South Georgia, I don’t ever want to be in snow again. Thanks, I just subbed, I so want to build my own towers.

    This is super helpful. My friend and I are getting ready to start a tower together this fall. Probably will start my own YT channel to help others. Here in AZ, we have different climate, so our challenges are unique. But your seed starting info is 100% awesome. Thanks for the videos!!! -Jason

    From a 30 year veteran teacher, you have a natural gift for educating the world about hydroponics. I found this video one day after starting my first rock wool tray and I fear I did it wrong (even though I followed the standard procedure). I'm considering conducting a side by side comparison using your method to see what yields the best starts for the tower. Might be expensive, but a good lesson. Question, you mention that you have an accompanying handout for this video, but I am not seeing it unless it's in the 101 content download. I admit to not being super tech savvy, so maybe I'm just a tool about where to find it :) For all things Garden tower, you are my new go-to-- great explanations, straightforward and easy to understand. THANK YOU!

    Thank you so much for the kind words, that really means a lot to me coming from someone with so much experience. There is nothing "wrong" with sprouting the old fashion way. I just noticed a stronger healthier plant with this method. I am working on a side by side comparison for the channel so keep an eye out for that video. Oh, and here is the guide, hope it helps www.humblegrowthhydroponics.com/product-page/tower-garden-seed-starting-guide

    Great video. Thanks for sharing. Question, when you first plant your seed, cover with vermiculite and put in a dark location, do you put a 1/8th of water in the bottom of the tray? Or just let the saturated rock wool sit without adding water? Thanks.

    As of this morning 4/24/24, 7a est, there is some issue with your forum on the website, so I'm posting my question here. I have one of those crappy 12 hole, 4 Liter tank Hydro Kits with a generic light. I have NO idea how much Nutrients I should add weekly -- and I'm wondering if the nutrients provided out- of-the-box ( the wonderously named "A" & "B") are absolute garbage and if I should buy new Nutrient formula RIGHT AWAY! Please advise as able. My garden is hurting.

    Do you ever use grow lights on your seedlings? I have watched several of your videos and they are truly helpful… I was giving my seedlings the wrong kind of light (red/blue) from the getgo… I am trying to save the seedlings I have already started… hopefully it works 🤷🏻‍♀️

    No, I do not. I'm so glad to have been helpful to you. I use only blue and UVA led bulbs to encourage a more "compact" plant and leafy growth. Then, when you feel that your plant is ready, you slowly switch to more intense red light. Once the plant begins flowering dump all the photos and red wavelengths you can on the plant. Like 1000 to 1500 umols of light energy. You will want to implement a full spectrum grow light when you make the switch to more red light in preparation for fruiting/flowering. Hope that helps. Make sure it has a dimmer so that you can manually adjust the output.

    @@humblegrowthI look forward to that video. I'm getting a tower garden! can you transplant a starter from soil to tower garden?

  • @humblegrowth

    @humblegrowth

    2 ай бұрын

    @@shalenawhite You can, it is better though to use a grow median like sphagnum moss or coco coir because when you transplant to a hydroponic garden, it is important to start your plant in something with a low nutrient density. I recommend coco coir with perlite for the perfect transfer. Just rinse off the roots with room temperature water and place them in the net cup. Hope this helps :)
