Cleaning the Mass Air Flow Sensor, should become part of your regular maintenance routine. This is one of the most critical sensors of your engine although not hard, it must be cleaned correctly or you could make it worst.

Did you replace the MAF sensor? Didn't it originally come with the aluminum housings MAF sensor rather than the all plastic one?

Both of my ‘85s are plastic.

No I did not replace the MAF sensor they are plastic like Kevin said
