Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Corvette fans may know about the ZR1 setting speed records, but did you know that was not the only C4 setting records. The L98 proved to be one of the best all time motors in its class.

Great video, 100% agree. Some enthusiasts get hung up on the 230 HP rating…yeah…not outstanding…but 330 ft lb of torque, the light weight of the car, the world level handling, the Dana rear differential, the targa top, the sport seats, there’s so much truly outstanding stuff about these cars…but people focus on that one number…230 HP. If we gotta pick a number to focus on let’s look at the 0-6, 5.7 sec! That’s faster than a ‘70 396 Chavelle. The car handled great and was by no means slow. Great video!

The points you bring up, are the true value of the C4. Unless one has owned, drove, or at least road in one, they will never appreciate the C4. Thank You so much for your comment.

@@Slowgroovin and the C4 wasn’t just stop light to stop light torque…it had a 4 speed with overdrive and could cruise at 75-80 and top 150…in ‘85 that was really something.

It sure is! But you hear very little about it. Thats why I made the video. The record says a lot about the C4. Thanks for your comment.

People dont know that the early corvette C4 L98 was kicked out of the Escort series. They dominated so badly they were booted. They were 29-0 against the 944 Turbos at the time. They then created the "corvette challenge series" only for corvettes. Talk about dominating.

When I was a young man I served as the Sales Manager at a Chevy store, all Corvette clients were directed to me. Before we even drove the car the client had to watch part of the VCR tape that came with the car. They had about a 10 minute section detailing the Corvette showroom stock racing efforts, including a great deal of in car footage of a Corvette cutting under and over Turbo 944 and Z cars while they talked about why they created the Corvette Challenge. The in car footage culminated with a shot of the Corvette eating a Lotus Turbo alive in a race down the straight! Of course the bonus footage of John H and Rick Mears teaching you how to launch and stop your 'Vette was great as well. Wish I still had a copy of that old tape!

@@stevecoad1 I remember watching the VC R tapes, and thinking how cool they were. I always watch the Corvette Challenge when I could. You were certainly at the special time for selling the C4 corvette. Thanks for sharing.

Thanx for the video, Mike! I've owned 2 L98s ... an '86 convertible and a '87 coupe. Loved 'em both but let 'em go so I could step into a 1991 ZR-1 (not lettin' this one go ;-). Not many people know that there were several attempts to get GM to sanction the 'World Record Run' ... all were shunned because GM brass didn't want to suffer the publicity ramifications of a failed attempt ... so no dough. Enter, who in my opinion was the biggest Corvette supporter and promoter of them all, (and 1 Hell of a great guy) Tommy Morrison. Without Tommy and his Mobile 1 and EDS guys, who were the prime money behind the effort, the WRR would never have happened. After all the records fell, someone asked "why don't we keep going until the LT5 fails?" The unanimous answer was that they were all exhausted and wouldn't survive doing this for 9 More Days straight! ( In testing, the LT5 was cycled back-and-forth between Max Horse Power and Max Torque for over 200 hours straight and never failed. The Lotus designed, Mercury Marine built LT5 ... is one Hell of an Amazing engine ) The Legend Lives! ^v^

I never understood why GM brass, didn't have the trust in there engineering team to go for it. Hats off to Tommy Morrison and his team to make history. But as it turned out, it makes even a better story, for history of the C4 Corvett. Thanks for sharing.

The early L98 cars certainly weren't slow. They didn't have a lot of midrange punch while rolling, particularly the automatics, but would come off of the line very hard and had a high top end. You can drop a built 383 stroker or 406 sbc in them and they will embarrass many modern cars.

I have a 91. Many say it's not fast by modern standards. All I know is, it's plenty fast enough for me, I don't need anymore performance than it has. If it were faster, I don't think I could really use the performance on the street anyway. I seem to beat everyone at the lights 😀

Problem with many modern cars is that the engine easily overpowers the chassis. That's why so many are wrecked.

I was brainwashed by the Kyle guy and others knocking this series of c4. After 2 years of KZread and my 96 c4, I would have got a 89 , hardtop. I like the dash etc. I would have avoided the dreaded epa crap to. Seats look better to.
