My wife does good work with modeling clay for rocks and trees but the money maker is the pizzabox building facade. Cheap, light and can be cut to nice scalable sizes. We don't usually don't do a roof or high walls due to how annoying it can be play around the terrain and scatter. One bump and the pieces go everywhere. I'd like to get into more 3d printing territory now that we have access to one. Great video! keep them coming.

Kromlech is my go to for mdf/hdf terrain, the way they layer things to make it less flat looking is great. Here in the US, Death Ray Designs does great terrain as well, and Miniature Scenery out of Australia has awesome sci fi themed buildings. For resin, I like Fogou Models - they’re in the UK and have a good range. A lot of their post apocalyptic shacks are painted in ork colors in my personal collection. Dark Fantastic Mills does a big range of awesome looking 3d printed terrain.

Card terrain, like Battle Systems, should be worth a mention. Even if its not that great. I think that the layer lines in filament printed terrain completely ruin the look. You could print in resin.. but that could get expensive. My main terrain has been MDF terrain from TTcombat. Yes, it takes very long time to build. I like how its not far off from scratch building though. Especially when you can get it wet to lift out detail (bricks, roof tiles) and cut into it with a Dremel. MDF is the best balance of price and ease of customization. It is super time consuming to build though.

I did think about the pop up terrain, but I have no experience with it (yet), so didn't feel I had the expertise to compare it with anything. The 3d printed things do come with that issue.. plastic is king for me, but it's down to personal taste. Mdf is always a great option.

I've had really good experiences with Rampart terrain by Archon studios, it is the modular stuff you might have seen on youtube. Some 5mm magnets and a polarity guide magnet and besides losing some skin to super glue it went together pretty well. Waiting on them to launch another kickstarter so I can get a deal on a bunch of it.

I enjoy building terrain for various games from DIY techniques (the old GW Terrain Making books are still valid) to 3D printing, to mdf kits, to resin kits, and plastic kits. With the exception of a few of them, they still have to be assembled and painted, so DIY Terrain is my favorite as it's less expensive. It seems to take only a little more time than the purchased terrain kits and you can customize it the sizes you want. It does require that you collect a few materials to assemble it and keeping it playable is important unless your end goal is to have a display board or a diorama. Plus, there is the satisfaction of having created it yourself, usually from junk that would have been tossed anyway.

I’m not sure what the UK equivalent to Michael’s craft store is, but a lot of the Halloween/christmas village pieces are great to doctor up for quick terrain pieces. If you get them towards the end of their target season, you can usually find them 50-80% off, which is a right steal. I’m not sure exactly what their material is, but they are quite heavy

In my opinion there is no exclusive this or that, because the different types very well complement each other. For example you can buy a cheap MDF building and add to it with 3d printing. There is no need to always print whole finished terrain either. But maybe you can summarize that under DIY terrain 🤷‍♂.

I've built a couple of pieces of Kromlech terrain and I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be. It often looks very good for MDF/HDF terrain, but you end up paying for that in terms of both cost and time/fiddliness. It is also getting to the point where the limitations of MDF/HDF are holding it back, where simpler designs wouldn't show up the limitations in the same way. Mind you that's just based on my experience of a couple of their smaller kits, maybe some of their other stuff is better. On the other hand I think you were a little unfair about TTCombat. They certainly do a lot of cheap and cheerful stuff but they also do some more detailed kits that are pretty impressive. They don't usually try to go as fancy as Kromlech but they're not just selling basic corner ruins and the like. Also I think they will shortly be taking over the sale of Warmill's MDF terrain and that stuff is very nice! One other MDF company I'd recommend is Art of War Studios. They don't have a particularly large range but their Gothic Ruinous terrain is a great way to get some terrain that will fit in very well alongside GW's Sector Imperialis terrain while also retaining the benefits offered by MDF terrain.
