I play with 19g v-square mostly, and am playing with 19g Hyper-G currently (got a freebie so can't complain). Definitely like v-square more as I hit tons of spin. However, I had no problem with flat shots (mostly return serve) when using v-square.

Mark, thanks for reviewing this string. I would be interested in hearing the reason why you think this string performed inconsistently on flat approach shots and volleys. For volleys, I would expect a string that pockets well to be good since in my opinion, softer strings like gut, synthetic gut and multifilament are best for both touch and putaway volleys. For the flat approach shots, I have a hypothesis that generally, extremely shaped strings like square strings and triangle strings perform inconsistently because when they are strung, they tend to have an inconsistent amount of twists in different parts of the string bed, an effect that is worsened when the string is soft. Solinco HyperG, Tourbite and Confidential don't have this problem because 1) they are stiff, so resist twisting 2) they don't have sharp edges so the effect of twists is reduced and 3) they are actually 5 sided, so not as extremely shaped and act more similar to round polys.

Great review my man! Really enjoyed that. Loved the sound of the ball off the strings, I was really interested to see how a square shaped string would play. After this, I don't think it's for me. Final Thotts 😂 keep up the good work. Thanks for your honest reviews, as always. 👍🏻✌🏻

Mark!! A request for a variation on your insightful string reviews! How about reviewing different hybrid stringing set ups? Seeing how you go about stringing the mains and crosses with different strings at different tensions, then going out and hitting with the strung racquet, closing out with your impressions regarding power, spin, control, and "arm friendliness" would be awesome! Keep up the great work! (oh, my suggestion for the first "test" would be Solinco Tour Bite (17) mains and Vanquish (16) crosses)

I play V-Square 18g. I find it great for topspin, and have no problem with any aspect of the game including approach shots. I use it with a Volkl V-Cell 9, and this is a great combination.

I agree with most of Mark's assessment. I've tried many spin friendly strings but vsquare 18 has felt the best for longer hitting sessions. I had 5 sets of it and tried on different racquets like RF97, yonex DR100/98, babolat pure drive, pure aero. I have like 15 sticks (including Becker's classic puma stick with adjustable handle), so I play with a lot of strings with full bed or hybrid, different weight and balance sticks. Vsquare is one of the best polys for spin and comfort in full bed. One issue I have is the strings move and stay warped. I typically string at around 50/47 give or take a pound. Might be the friction not allowing string to snap back or it goes dead faster. Thought might be one off but happened on 3 diff sticks. My 2 cents anyways. I currently use yonex polytour spin blue which feels bit stiffer but I think often about switching back to vsquare lol

Alright you reviewed the string I (and others) requested! Another thing I'd mention is that the 18 gauge version of this string is noticeably heavier/thicker than the 18 gauge version of Hyper G. This string really had that wow factor for me. This string is like Viagra for heavy dense pattern racquets. I can hit flat shots all day with it because my yonex duel g 330 naturally hits a low flat ball. Vsquare wouldn't work as well in a open pattern pattern tweener racquet like the ezone because that racquet already has spin and high launch angles. Now I just need you to review the neon blue solinco confidential 3.0 prototype string. I have a set in the 18 gauge and it plays similar to regular confidential except the edges are much sharper. Thanks!

It raises the performance of the stick resulting in high launch angles. Hard things come in soft packages blah blah

I just tried the VSquare yesterday and this was my first time using this string. I agree with you about the good pocketing and comfortable feel of this co-poly but I would like to comment on your opinion about the approach shot issue. As a player who tends to hit flatter balls, I had no problem with my approach shots using the VSquare. It had good feel and accuracy when I hit a flat approach shot but as you mentioned, it did lack power. I guess this was mainly due to the fact that the VSquare is a softer string.

Considering getting this string for my dense 18x20 95 SQ in racquet. I struggle with approach shots too, but I actually try to hit it with more spin, as I'm usually approaching on shorter balls where i need to get it up and down over the net. Hoping I can do that well with this string without hitting too long.

Let me know how this goes on a tight string pattern. Im guess the launch angle will be a bit low, but the spin potential will still be there.

For me this and Weiss cannon ultra cable which are both very similar just left me really struggling with depth control, I hit with a lot of spin anyway and I found I’d end up dropping stuff short because of the sheer amount of spin and would end up changing my strokes to compensate. Agree on the touch and volley shots as well as the flatter shots very little feel.

I have yet to hit with a square or triangle string that doesn't do the weird things you describe on flat shots or even heavy slice and serves. I will say you get almost as much spin and excellent control with Weiss CANNON Ultra Cable, it just doesn't last that long. It seems every string has some trade off.

I actually disagree with the approach shots. I found my approach shots easier to control since I could take bigger cuts at the ball. I do agree it is a bit iffy on touch shots but I just got used to it

A good overall review of this string...but I do not find any issues with approach shots, volleys or flat shots. I use it at 18g as a hybrid with Prince Synthetic Gut and it seems that optimal play for me is when the string bed is 5-7 days in. A lot of personal preference here... Also, I play with a 450g racket and string it at 80lbs. To me the entire racket is a sweetspot.
