    I have used MLT in a hybrid setup interchanging with cross and mains, my last set up was Poly Pro Tour on the mains at 49 and MLT on crosses at 53lbs and before that I tried Lux Element on crosses at 49 and MLT on the mains at 53 which was a super soft set up. I found as the tension went on the latter setup the ball would sail more easily and I had to have really good full strokes with a high swing speed to get the ball to dip. Now I use Babolat Gut VS on mains pre stretched at 51 lbs and Babolat RPM blast (original round) at 49lbs on the crosses

    Great advice. I love the bite and control of Poly’s but if I use a multi I really think X-One Bi-phase is the best there is, but for a lower cost option I like TF Multifeel as well. It has pretty good spin and slightly stiffer feel. They fray and wear quickly but better to replace strings than your arm. Gut is amazing and everyone needs to try at least once.

    I've been using multi mains and poly crosses for roughly last 15 years. I use Technifibre NRG2 16G multi mains at 52 lbs with Kirschbaum Max Power 17G poly cross at 48 lbs. I sometimes use Technifibre Multifeel 16G multi mains with Kirschbaum Max Power 17G poly too. I've tried gut mains and really like it but it is simply too expensive to use all the time. Kirschbaum Max Power is stiff poly but Tennis Warehouse rates it very high for tension maintenance. TF NRG2 and TF Multifeel also rate very high for tension maintenance.

    QUESTION TO JONAS: if I like 20/20 Alu power but I have arm issues, would 23/23 Head Velocity black kind of feel like the same tension as the 20/20 Alu power? Or are multifilaments strung around the same tension as polys? I need to protect my arm so it’s either 17/17 Alu power or a higher full bed of control oriented multi. Any thoughts?!? Tak tak 🙏🌟

    Interesting topic. 👍 When I got back to tennis after 15 years I got myself a new racket and strung it with Wilson Revolve. It was a good string but didn't last very long (didn't break but just got numb). Then I added Wilson NXT control in the mains and kept Revolve in the crosses but NXT would snap in 4-5 hours. Then I tried Babolat and Luxilon gut in the mains to replace NXT and it felt incredible. At the end just by chance once I had to go with Luxilon Fluoro 1.23 in the crosses instead of Revolve and didn't look back. That's still my perfect setup. Babolat NG mains 23.5kg and Luxilon AP Fluoro 22kg in the crosses (as I got better I did lower the tension quite a bit). It has it all... spin, control, comfort, feel... I'm just a bit worried that I don't see Fluoro anymore in online stores so I hope it is not discontinued. My stringer still has it. 🤞😁

    I really love multi, they have excellent power and easy for the arms, I'm ok with the string movement of multi, but as I develop my swing now I think they seem to have too many power, and I haven't found a low power multi yet. My favorite is Wilson NXT, have try string them up to 55, but still feel too many power, and it feels like it looses tension a lot after several play. Never try string it higher than 55 though, I'm worried it would hurt my elbow. I try to hybrid the NXT with Volkl Cyclone, but the NXT just won't hang on, it looses tension easily so its make it feels weird, and also the NXT broke on the Cyclone. And NXT is not cheap, that why I get it that people get poly or co poly as it the better trade off plus minus (including the price) than multi. Meanwhile I haven't find poly or co poly that also give good respond to volley. Last is I try Luxilon M2 Pro, best poly I have tried, even better than Luxilon Alu Power, too bad it also have not too good respond of volleys, and also it is discontinued. So my take is, wish there is a bit low power Multi, that would be perfect.

    Well done video- one more time. I have some thoughts that i can share. I played with a Pure Drive plus ( relatively stiff racket) and recently switched to a Head Boom Pro and have tried full bed MLT natural, TF Multifeel, ISO Professional, Triax Clear, TF TGV, and hybrid set ups with VS Gut/Velocity MLT and VS Gut/TF Triax. All strings were 17g except for the Gut which was 16. Strung around 53-54.5. I also have a bad case of tennis elbow, am a 4.5 player with lots of spin on my forehand adn a top spin one handed backhand. Here's my take 1. Multi- feel on Head Boom PRO (BP): mushy. too soft and lack of control. No arm issues 2. Velocity MLT Black on BP: somewhat soft and pillowy No arm issues. Doesn't seem to have the power i want. 3. Velocity MLT natural- a little crisper on the BP. No arm issues. 4. TF TGV on BP: relatively crisp especially when new. Gets a little mushy when frayed. No perceptable arm issues. 5. Triax on PD+: crisp, liked the string but felt the arm was huring. Whether it was preciptated with the TRIAX i don't really know. 6. VS /Tiax on PD+. i played yesterday with this set up with a bad case of tennis elbow and alternated with my BP rackets. I liked this the best due to it being a little more powerful, nice spin and control HOWEVER, my arm is very sore today. It might be worth it though. 7. MLT on PD+: nice string but not as crisp a feel. At the time i was playing with it, my arm started to really hurt- that is when i thought it might be the racket and then i switched to the BP. So, the net of all of this is that i am not sure if my arm problems get better with a slightly more flexible frame with a softer multi. But clearly the PD+ with a gut hybrid is my6 preferred feel on the racket and i get a little more power. So my next move is to decrease the tension on the PD+ with a VS/TGV set up at around 52 for Gut and 50 for TGV and see if i can control it. When i use to play a lot, even with the PD racketsa, I was stringing at 68 with ISO PROfessional and i liked the control and feel. That tension with that racket and string would destroy my arm today!@! Hope this is useful to some of you. david

    I've always heard synthetic is terrible. I've been using multi as crosses and poly main, and really like how it softens the bed. If you want a softer feel, there are racquets for this, like the solinco whiteout 305 18x20 you can barely feel the racquet hit the ball. Some people love this (like me) while others don't.

My thinking was simplistic; if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. Yes, I know, there are a lot of things to unpack there. But as I said, I cant really afford to go on a restring journey, and I only really restring when I break a string. My setup is the DR98, led tape at 12, and 52 pounds. The guys at Sergio's might tell you how I play. I'm the 6'4" Aussie - I like to hit the ball... hard... 😂😂😂

    Well I have to disagree on the hybrid comment about most of the response comes the mains. I've been playing and experimenting with Hybrids for over 20 years. What I'm going to say is if you strung 2 identical racquets with the same mains (doesn't matter what it is) with different crosses that are similar and they'll play similar. But that's not to say that a very different cross at a different tension will NOT make and difference. Try this: Put a 16g stiff ploy like Tour bite in the Crosses at even tension. Then put Vel or MLT in the 2nd racquet at the same tension. Can you notice a difference? Same launch? same power level? Same control? Want to get crazy? put in T1 ghost wire or Cream in the crosses at let's say -2lb as a lot of people do and what's the response? Since most won't try this, here's my guide to cross strings: * You can generate a whole different POWER response with cross string selection. * You can completely change the launch angle from low to crazy high with cross string TENSION. But you want to know what's hard? Maximizing spin, control, power and feel with the cross string. It's taken me what feels like a lifetime (a lot has to do with my finicky elbow, thank god for prolo therapy), I've settled on a fairly stiff, not too slippery, pre-stretched 19g poly that's $8 a pack. This particular string has linear power which I believe to be the key to success for power swings as well as touch shots. I tried umpteen million co-polys and couldn't get any to really play great and/or stay consistent. This cross string works great for me with all versions of main strings at all tensions.

    I don’t agree with that. As a fairly good intermediate, I switched to poly and noticed a big difference in my game. Overall more confidence when swinging due to the added control. It gave me the confidence to hit hard without tightening my arm and body because of the fear of sending the ball away. I feel like playing with multis on powerful modern frames such as the pure drive or the ezone is a bit too much. The downside though is that I started having some pain in the arm, especially playing around 8 hrs per week. Maybe it’s worth trying some hybrid setup i.e. poly main and multi crosses.

    I recently strung up Cyclone X Velocity MLT (natural) and was happily surprised with the spin. I probably play my best tennis with a full bed of Poly, but at 35, I'm better playing at 90% for a full match and able to back it up the following day without a sore arm

    I keep hearing stiff polys like solinco confidential are only for high level players. I'm a 3.5 and I feel like I can greatly benefit from this string. I love knowing that if I tighten up in a match, the string is dead enough that I have confidence to swing out knowing it won't go long. Arm pain took a few weeks getting used to and now I feel no pain with this string.

    For me, natural gut string gives excellent spin but only if you hit with full stroke through the ball. It is worth noting that you shouldn’t string a multifilament string higher than your usual tension. Thinking that you need to string it higher because it is softer defeats the purpose of using a multifilament.

  • @CH-yp5by

    @CH-yp5by

    Thats logic makes no sense, the material of the string and its structure to a poly you can claim that a higher tension defeats its purposes, if anything the higher tension allows more control because tension below 50lbs creates terrible control and the string is still softer than a poly in its mid 40s.

    Back in the days, pro players used sandpaper in the 70s to roughen the surface of natural gut in order to get more spin. It also works with multis or polys. But don't do it before stringing. Do it, when the stringing of the racquet is done.
