This may be a bit biased, coming from a radio operator, but a CB radio is a great asset to have for a road trip. It is a great way to pass time chatting with other truck drivers (and some 4 wheelers), in addition to being a good source of info regarding traffic jams, info, alternate routes. While it may not replace a mobile phone, if you ever needed some help, I’m sure you could reach someone on Channel 19 if you’re near a route with truck traffic. The CB radio is not a gimmick, nor is it a toy. It really is a useful tool to communicate with others and share info. One more thing, this isn’t the 1970s anymore, so don’t talk like Burt Reynolds did in Smokey and the Bandit. You can find other videos on KZread for more info.

Good tips! We’ve have 4 trips to the US (from Australia) and driven through about 30 or so states. My advice to foreigners is to use large paper maps and road atlases when planning routes. Don’t just use gps - you miss out on too much and don’t get a good idea of the lay of the land.

@1:59 *_Bring food for meals, not just snacks_* 👍 We rent a cabin every year for a guys' trip and one person is responsible for one home cooked dinner. (We all throw in a ten spot to pay for the food.) A friend started this a long time ago by surprising all of us with ribeyes and potatoes. Ever since, it's a tradition to try and outdo last year's meal. We've had burgers, spag bol, Cincinnati chili, beef stew, chicken souvlaki, fajitas, pork chops and even pulled pork and swordfish. 😂

I just spent two weeks traveling through New England, I did not bring cleaning supplies, if I cannot trust a hotel to properly clean the room before I check in I shouldn’t be staying there. I am careful but not excessive. Make sure you know how to change a tire, fill fluids and swap wiper blades. Relax and smile at strangers.

Mine is usually my 22 year old daughter who hates road trips and would rather fly everywhere, while I'm the complete opposite. It unfortunately doesn't usually make for the most enjoyable of times so I do alot of solo trips, lol.

Years ago, I journeyed from the Midwest to Whidbey Island in the Puget Sound, with my grandmother and my 6 year old. I had never driven myself outside of the county I lived in. We had a picnic breakfast in the Badlands - seemed like any second Clint Eastwood might come walking out from behind the rocks. We visited Mt. Rushmore and went on to have lunch in Deadwood - during Sturgis! The mountain pass at the border area between Idaho and Washington was so steep, it was scary. Finally made it to Whidbey Island, via the ferry - another new experience for me. My goodness, what wonderful memories I have of that roadtrip! Journey on, Wolter family!

As an extremely rural resident I would like to pass along a tip. Its not necessarily what you should bring though. When traveling in rural settings remember our roads work just like yours. Driving 20 mph to watch the antelope is not a good idea. Parking in the middle of a dirt road to get a scenic picture is not a good idea. Gawking at rural homesteads makes people nervous. Just some things we have dealt with in a bigger than normal way since March.

It seems that your videos get promoted less or show up less in search and you can be demonitized on that particular video. Yourube said that shouldn't be the case anymore but I feel better safe than sorry.
