Re: sunscreen - a tip I learned from professional bass fisherman is to always put sunscreen on the backs of your hands, the back of your neck & the tops of your ears. These guys are out in the elements hundreds of days & thousands of hours a year, and alot of them have had to have skin cancer spots removed from their hands, etc.
Thanks. I like to have a little cash stash too. One thing I find handy, is to fill old prescription bottles with quarters. Good for vending machines, coin-opp laundry, tolls, news paper boxes when you need fire starter. Situations where everything is close or unattended.
Such a good video. In Australia if you’re driving in county areas you need a towel with you in case you see any fresh roadkill so that you can check to see if there is any babies in there mothers pouch particularly with kangaroos. Most country towns have a vet that can take any orphans.

Wow! That's good to know. I haven't been to Australia yet, but I do hope to visit one day!
yes to all - PLUS: writing utensils and notebook; bandana; small amount of cash in bills and coins; hair brush/comb/elastics; very small bag of bags (ziplock , trash); cold/wet clothes; hand sanitizer & masks; moving blanket. Some in stored car compartments, some in a duffel bag. (Does not include car stuff like snow chains).

what is a moving blanket?
Things I have to bring with me: ibuprofen for headaches, always a flashlight, plenty of extra water & food in case I get stranded, emergency (space) blanket....I love road trips!!!
@amanda.outside

I bring all of those things too. I want to make another video on my emergency road trip essentials. Road trips are the best!! Thanks for commenting 😁
Great video!!! I always have a tarp with gromets(never underestimate the uses of a good tarp), paracord or rope, utility knife swiss army style and of course flashlight. Most of my essential car gear has transfered with each car since i was 16 or been replaced.
The decision to drink water or not on a road trip is a constant source of internal struggle for me haha, especially when we're planning on sleeping in the car 😂 Pretty much love when I have it together enough to have all these items on a road or camping trip. Also love bringing a pair of easy slip on/off flip flops... gives you the option to go shoeless in the car but quickly get in/out when needed!
I keep a commuter car kit in my trunk because I used to drive 30+ minutes to college every day (Now it's a 20 minute drive to work). Having 12 hour school days made it hard when you step in a rain puddle at 8am and can't go home until 8 pm or later sometimes. The Items I keep in addition to your list are 2 full changes of clothes including shoes (one professional and one comfortable), a giant beach towel, a dry bag to store wet stuff in, copious amounts of feminine necessities, and a small beach chair.
In addition to a road atlas, bring a compass. Direction may not be easy when it is overcast.
The reason your Alba sunscreen isn't white when you put it on is because it doesn't contain zinc - they use ingredients that protect your skin by boosting your ability to absorb the UVB light for longer before you burn. However, if you have sensitive skin or are quite fair and burn easily, zinc is a better option since it reflects sun rather than allowing you to absorb it, but it does leave a white cast. My advice - with warm hands, apply once, then a few minutes later pat into the skin... the warmth of your hands will help with the white cast. The best protection is, of course, physical blocks (hats, clothing), since sunscreen loses effectiveness if not applied liberally and/or with time, especially in direct sun exposure. If you can, keep a microfiber towel with you and when you take a break, wet it, wipe your skin (gently) to remove sweat and dirt that may be sticking, and then reapply the sunscreen (in the shade if possible). - Advice from a skin therapist. :)

thank you!! I have some zinc sunscreen so I'll definitely try to apply it with warm hands and see if that helps. I'm trying to wear a hat more often as well.
I'll add a knife or a multitool, I have one at the car and one with me during the hike 💪
We always have a small trash can in the car. It really helps keep it clean.
can you do a video talking about feminine care while camping or road tripping?
I enjoy road trips! I always have an iPod Touch with songs and audiobooks downloaded onto it, a water bottle with a straw, a kit I put together where I keep my public bathroom essentials in case the bathrooms I encounter are lacking. I keep a tote of snacks, a magnetic mount on the windshield for my phone, gum, and spare change for public meters. Also sanitizing wipes and disposable gloves for getting gas.
Yay top 137 comments. Love this content. Best to you and your family. Happy Wednesday. Those pretzel crisps and Hummus are great together, too. I also love to put Hummus on rice crackers with broccoli slaw - without any sort of Cole slaw dressing - and eat that with some everything bagel seasoning sprinkled on, and salt. I also love popcorn.
❤️ your super-useful and enjoyable content! I 👍🏻 immediately, every time. You rock!
Love your videos! Great content! Would love to see what you pack in your med kit. 🙂
Love your videos. Thank you.
Really dig your yoga classes. Great work!!!
Great Video. Thank you for posting.
I recently started watching your channel. You have great content and a pleasant disposition in your delivery. Enjoyable to watch. Keep up the great work! As an empty nester, I’ve been reigniting my adventure seeking activities and your channel is a helpful resource. Thanks!
Love the list! I also take hair elastics, baggies for trash..., hand sanitizer and an extra mask.
Good list, thanks for sharing.
Small flashlight for glovebox, to fish out things between the bucket seats, sunglasses, keys, you name it. Easy to see in those dark places.

Yes I always have a flashlight in my car too!
Chapstick is a must, I have a purse chapstick, pocket chapstick, car chapstick, and bedside chapstick.... you get the point. and the world spins off its axis if they get shifted around! I have been sick with COVID this past week and have been binge-watching your videos. Thank you for the great ideas!
A good roadside repair kit with jumper cables (or power jump starter), fix a flat, basic tools, tire inflator hazard lights...etc. Gives me a little peace of mind for minor issues that can be handled without my roadside service

Nice surprise to see a bullet journal cameo. 😊
If you use Band-Aids on your feet to avoid blisters, try duct tape. I used it on my last 3-day / 30 mile camping/hiking trip. It's much more durable. For maps, I download the area I'm going to be in on Google Maps. I make my itinerary in Google Sheets and download it for offline use. I never use addresses for trailheads or park locations, I only use GPS coordinates. I love the All Trails app for hiking.
Great video as always! Every time I see you post about a new video on Instagram I mediately switch over to KZread. You and Nick are awesome 😎.

I LOVE that you included the handkerchief at the end! I was thinking that with the napkins-- I always have some disposable (for really gross stuff), and a couple reusable in the glove compartment. Great for when a rest-stop bathroom doesn't have paper towels as well.

I'm going to put some folded up paper towels in my purse, as I hate when they don't have paper towels to dry my hands. And, unlike with a cloth handkerchief a paper towel can also be used to pull the gross door handle then disposed of.
I think adding a Go Girl would be essential!
Good tips, thanks :)
Even on day trips I have a backpack with change of cloths, frozen water jugs in cooler to keep food dry and my camp cook stuff so I stay away from fast food or restaurants plus dogs like to hang in the park while I cook.
In reference to your Utah map magazine,....and the Oscar goes to... Amanda! Too funny!
My #1 road trip essential: my Toyota Land Cruiser
My trusty headlamp (hands free peeing in the woods, need I say more? lol) and my waterproof Uno and playing cards for those rainy days. Definitely essential.
Haha, I loved the roadmap part :). When we first moved to the US (not so long ago, actually) we were against having any sort of GPS with us.. We got lost so many times (despite having a roadmap) but, honestly, some of that are the best memories..Like when we were driving around in circles on the NC coast in the middle of the night during a horrible storm and this black bear just came out of nowhere, stood up looked at us and left...Getting nostalgic here, I know, but it was kinda fun!

Love love you. You’re awesome and so informative! There’s no link to the blanket. I love it. Where can I get a similar one?

I’m the same way with light sensitivity while I sleep. Sometimes, I will go as far as having to tape over the bright lights of a digital alarm clock! lol.....I also like to bring me with “poop bags” and a toilet seat for those “omg, I need to use the bathroom right now” moments 😆

Depending on how far I am going and where I am going ... all of the stuff you listed, plus cleaning products, a portable toilet, camp chair, my tire table, off-road gear, tools (they live in my truck), cooking and eating stuff, extra clothes, small camping setup, etc. Also extra water and a way to filter water. I also live in the Southwest so I am frequently in the middle of no where and if the weather gets bad, I have issues with my truck etc, it’s just better to be prepared because there is not always a Walmart of other store to stock up. And you may just have to hunker down somewhere for a while.

Thanks for the video, nice to see what others have in their road trip setup. Question: what’s the water container that you use? I’ve looked on Amazon and REI but there’s mixed reviews for all of the containers that I’ve been looking at. How do you like yours?
@amanda.outside
3 жыл бұрын
I have two different ones. The blue one in the video is relatively new and it's ridged and durable. So far I really like it and I haven't had any issues yet. I also have a clear collapsible water cube that isn't quite as durable (a bird chewed through mine once), but it is a lot stronger than I thought it would be, and I'm not particularly gentle with it. I like it because it collapses and takes up less space as you use it or when you're storing it. I think we got the blue water jug from Sportsmans Warehouse and the clear one from REI. Hope this helps!
