    The tip of having a very short back swing and accelerating through for short putts, is definitely something I need to try. Very good video.

    Excellent tips Matt. Engaging, to the point and smart advise as ever. The only element I might add is to stand a suitable distance away so that the alignment line on the ball appears online so you can trust it and not try to redirect as approaching the ball. Thanks Matt

    Great advice. A couple of my tweaks to try. Inside 6-ft I like to take the putter back and then pause (don't knock it until you try it) and THEN accelerate thru the ball. I also use Dave Stockton's advice and look at the line (not the ball) I want the putter head to trace. It's like painting the ball into the hole. A face-balanced putter supports this style best. Works for me. Lots of 1-putts. I do recommend cross-handed putting for two reasons (Dave Pelz agrees) the right hand's fine motor skills are on the top of the club which controls aim and the straight left hand only adds solid stability. Finally, I agree with the other comment regarding grip pressure: Light enough hold the club but not influence the direction it travels.

    I putt one handed , it works great and I don’t have all the other things to worry about. I feel the weight of the club so I can get the speed right and I don’t get the yips 😅The greens are perfect so you never have to hit it that hard, I can see the hole and the ball so it stays on line with a lot less effort.

    Hey Matt! Been following you for a year now i think🤔 Juste wanted to say thank you! I'm a pretty neat player (2hcp) But i always struggle with the short game. I practice and practice some of your tips. Getting from 1 upndown every two 18 holes, to 3 every single 18 holes! I now hold my game with my short game (since my long game is top tier 😅) All i needed you a putting tutorial, and this video may help me to get from 36-34 putts to 30-28 putts 🙏 Keep it going, love all your videos! Best regards from France!

    MSG- what would you say about Crenshaw and Faxons strokes? They both took the putter back longer than their follow throughs. Both regarded as finest putters of there generation.

  • @ggmorris71
    @ggmorris7110 ай бұрын

    If your backstroke is shorter than follow-through because your advice, that’s very tough to be consistent. Almost are great putters are the opposite, longer backstroke and thx to modern tech we now know most decelerate. Cam Smith, John Rahn, Tiger Woods, Brad Faxon… The the stroke ratio is 2:1 to about .6 back to .3 forward with total of about. .9. That’s the measured magic formula with slight variations.

    Pick a spot 12-18" past hole and look at that. Never look at the hole. Bell curve says half of all putts will be short so move your target so 0-5% will be short (severe uphill putts...um no).

    Pace off your putt. Always. 8 paces generally, for me, on a flat putt, means I bring putter back 8" (you should take 10 min on practice green to dial this in, sometimes 8" gives you 6 paces or 10). Use plumb bob to see break. Uphill putts need 30-40% less break and downhill 30-40% more.

    Grip pressure is one of the most important things in a putt in my opinion. You could find your perfect line, line it up, take a perfect practice swing. But if your grip pressure changes at all in your stroke, you will miss by a mile.
