We need a video showing the proper technique to hit off of very hard packed sand and super wet sand vs the fluffy, easy sand in this video. Most of us consistently play in not as nice conditions as the greenbrier.

Exactly, why do youtubers continually give us a bunker technique which only pros and privileged private club members can use. I do that at my club and it's bouncing off the base and skulling the ball.

Agree! My club uses crushed granite, which is much denser, and really heavy when it’s damp. Ok for fairway bunkers, but makes the green side bunkers a little trickier

for me hard sand after rain i will pitch it out using 60 degree wedge you can't get under it. If soft sand then i will used the proper technique like pro do and 54 degree. Most courses in Australian winter are hard sand, green keeper don't work weekends due to labor cost too much.

OR, one bunker was hard packed so you had to play a wide open face And then on another hole it's a little more fluffed and you now chunk it

If you watched the Open, I'm sure you saw the best players in the world having problems with the bunkers at LACC because they're not accustomed to playing from really soft sand which doesn't allow them to spin the ball & easily control it. If they have the usual firmer sand, it's just too easy for them & they'll actually try to put it into a bunker to avoid the rough around the green. Bunkers aren't meant to help the player but that's exactly what they do. We need bunkers like these for every tournament they play. Fans scream with delight when these guys put it within a foot from the bunker because they can't do it. They play the same firm sand every week that gives them no problem unless they get a buried lie which is rare with firm sand so they have everything in their favor to play the shot with ease. Properly placed bunkers with soft sand & high lips would at least challenge their talent. We all saw what happened to Schaufle on the 1st hole from a fairway bunker. Took him 3 to get out. Now THAT'S a challenging bunker that cost a pro big-time & all of them should be modeled like those. Maybe American players are the best because the game has become too easy & has allowed them to get soft. The game is target golf with shots being all carry from the fairway rather than having to actually play shots by maneuvering the ball around obstacles as the game is in Britain. I'm not saying every course should be a British Open but the game has been diminished by distance with little price to pay for errant shots other than in the Majors & many of those courses are just hit it as far as you can & go find it. You can miss the shot by an entire fairway & still have an open shot to the green because the obstacles are easily avoided by length from the tee & only affect shorter hitters. The power game is sexy to fans who can't hit it that far when they play so they want to see pros do it rather than rely on their skills other than 375 yards from the tee which leaves a wedge for the approach to the green even on some par 5s. The only defense the course has is the rough & if it's longer than the players like it, it's called unfair & that's why more severe bunkering within reach of the long hitters is necessary for the integrity of the game. If the best in the world aren't being challenged, what's the point of the game? To them, under current course layouts, it's like shooting fish in a barrel. Should -10 be winning what's supposed to be the most challenging championship the best players face? If that's what fans & players want, golf has become obsolete & a bore to watch.

Matt, love your channel! Thanks for the bunker tips. I'm working hard this year to "hit ball first, ground second". When I do this, it is a TOTALLY different (better) feeling and the ball comes off crisp and flies a mile! Some days I do it perfectly, then I seem to lose it the next round. Searching your channel now for that tip, but if not, would love to see you do a video on that!

Open the face of a 60° so far that it’s an 89° wedge. Swing as hard as possible. Flop a ball 50 yds straight up and 2 yards forward. Will have so much spin it will roll 3yds backwards. Make sure you aim away from the pin for this trick that golf courses don’t want you to know!!

Thanks Mr. SG. Good chipping technique is NOT good bunker technique! Who knew??? 1- ball position left heel; 2- weight on left heel 60%; 3- FEEL the club dropping, THEN flip. On my way to try it today! I love the way you get right to the point without wasting a lot time on pullover.

I definitely need to practice the release of the club. Played yesterday and had some below average shots out of bunkers. My biggest fear is not getting out of bunkers. It's that I'm going to skull it out of the bunker and either end up 20 yards on the other side of the green or even worse, into the woods. Practice, practice...

turn your body a few degrees left of the flag ( right handers ) swing across the ball toward your left leg * don't hit your shin * slicing slightly across the ball will prevent your club head from duffing in the sand. the ball will loft and spin right - thus you've already turned your body left of the flag. takes a little practice but i'm exceptionally accurate out of the bunker.
