    Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit kzread.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.

    First advice for a beginner is, take someone with you who can show you how to unhook and safely handle pike.

    Definitely and a beginner should look up videos how to handle and unhook a pike. Another tip if you're having trouble unhooking put it back in the net to recover then try again, also don't target pike when the weather is really hot.

    If you’ve never caught pike before go with someone that has pike are incredibly delicate fish and need to be handled properly,anyone can catch a pike but unhooking and returning the fish safely takes time to learn I’ve lost count of the times I’ve had to help anglers return there first pike because they don’t know how to handle the pike once caught it only takes 1 inexperienced fishermen to destroy a stretches pike fishing with bad handling remember fish can’t breath air try holding your breath when you have a fish on the bank ,treat them with respect make sure you rest them before you unhook them and then rest them again before release

    enough with all the resting when u catch a pike u lift it out of the water, grab it by the gills.. then make sure it never touches the ground cause that is very bad for their skin.. unhook them and release them... u can do this all in under 30 seconds then 99-100 pike u catch will be fine.. i might take a picture or 2 if i catch a big one.. but never take it out of the water too long. the less handeling time/touching the fish the better.

    The only thing i would say to a first time Piker, Is to go with someone who has Experience in handling them, and learn how to do this before going solo. They may look Mean and Tough, but they are very, very Delicate, and need to be handled with care. Then decide the tackle to used. My go to Spinner, is the tried and trusted "Ondex" probably the best and well known of all. Also a "Devon Minnow" had some 20lb+ on those. I have some Large "Toby" Copper Spoons and some Large "Colorado" Spoons as well. I am mostly on a Mike The Pike Medium and Large in natural colours. Top water, i have the Rat, Jitterbug, Frogs. Thanks for sharing.

  • @Watchxes
    @Watchxes Жыл бұрын

    As a beginner i would just throw small spinners and small shads. You will mostly catch Perch but also a few, small to medium size Pike where you practice how to handle them properly. When you catched a few 50cm pikes, you can step up the bait size and catch the bigger ones.

    Lures that move like a natural fish in water are good especially minnow lures. Especially if the lures are similar markings to natural fish that the pike usually feed on. Sometimes larger lures can scare off pike.

    I use 28g tobies for bass fishing. I fished for pike for the very first time yesterday using lures on a local water after an invite from my friend and decided if they catch bass they should catch pike. Second cast hooked and landed a 15lb pike. Also caught a 5lb pike on another style of toby lure. So my point is dont rule out traditional lures which have caught fish for years. As one person commented alot of lures attract anglers and at a hefty price

    with the spinners, I suggest swapping out the treble for a single barbless hook. (something like cox and rale inline lure replacement singles) I have had some of the worst unhooking experiences because spinners are so small and attacked with so much enthusiasm compared to other lures. I have had small pike and good sized chub swallow them whole right down to the back of the throat, you get a situation where one point is buried in the bottom of the throat and another is in the roof. This happened very often for me before i switched to single hook, and makes for a lousy first experience with pike

    Best Lures for beginners are all Single Hook Barbless lures. And someone who can show them how to handle a fish. Getting the confidence of handling and unhooking the fish is key for beginners. We are not after big fish at this stage, we are after the experience. Treble hooks never need to be barbed, but they are certainly not for the beginner. Multi jointed lures can be accessible to beginners by switching out the treble hooks to inline single hooks. Natural Coloured lures for the water is always a good approach.

    DonOneBryson - works both ways, I'm sure old school fishermen get sick of kids thinking flouro is some kind of magic invisible bite proof line. Especially when they find bitten off lures in a pike's mouth. I'm not old school or new school to be honest. Only started fishing again last October after throwing some lures off the rocks and thinking I should do something similar back home. Got myself some Drennan coated wire and made up some traces, caught plenty with peace of mind. Only had one really big fish, high double, and that took the lure into its mouth with the trace in its teeth. I'm not convinced catch rate would improve using flouro but I'm open minded enough to give it a try - out of interest how do you tie line that thick, does the usual uni knot work ok or do you have to crimp it somehow. I'll have to do some research.

  • @DonOneBryson

    @DonOneBryson

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@leftmono1016 if you're using regenerator mono it's very supple, you can normally tie a simplified version of an improved clinch knot (ie 3 wraps instead of 7 or 8) it grips itself well and with the tag end melted it will not slip. If you're using fluoro then you have to crimp it cos it's extremely hard to get a decent knot, double crimping is the way forward. I've had pike over 20lbs in the canals of the Netherlands, never even been close to being bitten off but have 100 percent seen an improvement in the number of bites. I'm totally convinced that on a day when the fishing is tough, using the right leader will get you that extra fish. Like I said, the amount of pike you see with fucked up mouths and scarred bodies from wrapping around wire traces is what put me off, when I saw the quality of the fish that the Swedes, Norwegians and dutch are having I was sold. The fact is that line quality has improved tremendously in the past few years, and the high quality flouros and monos are nothing like the stuff of yesteryear.
