The Eleiko Oppen Deadlift Bar and Kabuki Trab Bar HD are, in my opinion, the best trap bars available if money is not a major consideration.
I've been using both of these hex bars in my home gym for over two years now and have used them for deadlifts, shrugs, lunges, and even presses and squats. The versatility is incredible.
Despite my adoration for both, there needs to be an in-depth comparison and that's what I bring you today. Everything you'd ever want to know in comparison of the Eleiko Trap Bar and the Kabuki Strength Trap Bar.

Because the only time any of the bars are going to be better than any other is when you start lifting a shit ton of weight. For 95% of people a lower end trap bar/ barbell is just fine because they’re not putting 5, 6, 700+ pounds on it

Kabuki Trap Bar owner here. I like the meaner look of this bar. I like the narrow grip option as I bought this moreso for lower body work. I like the high handles option rather than putting the eleiko on small blocks to raise the bottom position. Kabuki is rackable with an extra set of collars- just can’t do cambered style movements. Fat grips with knurling that is so choice. I sold my old fat grip bar when this came in. American made too! I do wish the jacks (feet?) had bigger surface area though- when putting plates on and the bar is standing on the jacks then that second it’s being lowered to get into lifting position I hear some crunching in my plywood lifting platform. I’m only loading it to high 300’s (lbs) so I’d imagine 500+ might leave some marks.

Another nice review. Thanks! Iron Sport Gym in Glen Olden, PA has a Eleiko Öppen Trap Bar. I used it for over a year. It's a great bar, but the handles seem slightly too wide and uncomfortable. When the pandemic hit, I bought a Kabuki Trap Bar and am very glad that I chose the Kabuki. I fell that it is a better quality bar with greater versatility than the Eleiko bar is. I disagree with the balance issue; I find the Kabuki better than the Eleiko.

Looking at the welds of both bars, the Kabuki has superior welds as the welder has taken the time to weld correctly and with skill i.e. "stacked dimes" finish. The welds on the Eileko looks like it was made in China by an apprentice/inexperienced/lazy welder. i.e. blobs instead of stacked dimes. No way is the build quality of the Eileko even close to that of the Kabuki. And I am not an American just in case anyone thinks that I have a chauvinistic bias on this.

Coop, the issue with balance on the Kabuki bar is something I've noticed and generally come to dislike about the bar. It absolutely makes the lift far more difficult when you start getting heavy loads on there. I've pulled 800 on the rogue bar before, and I know I would get nowhere close to that on the Kabuki. I find myself constantly fighting bar "swing", which then of course shifts a lot of that pressure onto my lower back. It's a good bar, but I think it still needs to be dramatically improved. Also... I was really disappointed when I missed out on the 25 kg v1 and they made the HD 30 kg... stop making bars that aren't 20 kg or 25 kg... us calibrated people hate it!!

Try to get the legs copied by a local cnc shop. If you add 2 more legs on each side, it does balance the bar. I just added 2 more legs each side and changed the length of the bolts to a 2.25 hex bolt. Fixed the balance issue with the Kabuki Bar. This is something Kabuki could of fixed themselves but maybe it was done so intentional to avoid the legal issues of being too similar to the Eleiko Oppen bar.

Coop, the 1” handles are actually 25.4mm which, as an owner of the Kabuki Trap Bar HD, I have found to be way too small for males with even average to smaller sized hands. When I go heavy with the 1” handles it’s a giant pain. If they were 28mm (or even 27mm like a DL bar) that’d be much better. Just wanted to call that out since you said they were 28mm in the video. Great video though!

Actually they are named after the muscle and the shape of the muscle. Al Gerard had the original trademark for the trap bar. Because the initial bar was actually a diamond shape not trapezoid. Because he held the patent on the initial design that was the diamond shape they decided to add some angles and it became a hexagon and then because the name was already taken they had to call it hex bars.

I can’t afford either of those and never tried them. But I’d disagree about the point about the balance. I think the point you should have made was that both handles on the kabuki bar are elevated from the centerline so when you’re actually lifting the weight doesn’t go out of balance. The Eleiko has handles right down the center so the weights going to tip forward or backwards unless you’re set up dead center on the handles. Here’s what I mean. When I max out on my cheap normal cap trap bar using the in line handles the bar tips forward or backwards. No problems at all using the raised handles though. The weight is lower than the handles so it just hangs there. That’s Chris duffins whole “playground physics” thing. Like with the kadillac bar.

After getting to try both (I own the eleiko, and borrowed a friends kabuki trapbar) the eleiko wins for me….the biggest factor is the balance in hand. When I would touch the floor the kabuki always wanted to tilt to the closed side….not so with the eleiko…it feels balanced whether the weight is on or off the floor.

I got the ForceUSA open trap bar...meh? I think my biggest complaint is the placement of the handles? And that the handles spin... no me gusta...I guess you could get some lock washers or something to keep em from spinning but still...

I've played with the Eleiko at a local gym and it is such a nice bar. The weight feels awesome as you're lifting, great balance, props itself up and down with little effort. It's a clear coated powder coat and I would be blown away if you could scratch it, amazing finish on it, I'm surprised the warranty isn't for longer.

Warranty is an interesting thing. Eleiko is probably going on the theory that if it doesn't break in the warranty period, its definitely not a manufacturing defect. Also with lifetime warranties, a lot of the time you end up paying for a warranty.

Depends on how heavy you want to lift. The BoS bar is much thinner and less robust than either of these. It has shorter weight sleeves and also a lower weight capacity. Probably ok for beginners but you could outgrown it depending on your goals.

Just received the oppen. Sold the kabuki to purchase this one. Can 100% say the eleiko is simplicity combined with beauty engineering and effectiveness. Absolutely prefer the eleiko over the trap bar hd. They are black now. I assume the clear coating on the older style was an issue at some point, not too sure. But it’s An amazing bar. Rackable is def useful for neutral grip shoukder press.

Elieko rackability could be considered as a feature. I've used other trap bars with swappable handles and have had issues with the handle spin slightly is that an issue with the kabuki?

The Eleiko is better because it's rackable and the cylindrical bar shape makes it comfortable to do cambered squats with which is a major selling point!
