THE BEST OF FILIPINO STREET FOOD: Marikina With @foodiemommaph
During this Filipino Street food tour, Khee from @foodiemommaph guides me to her preferred spots in Marikina. Khee, a prominent figure in Marikina, actively promotes the area's cuisine, culture, and attractions. Situated along the eastern border of metro Manila and adjacent to Quezon City on the west, Marikina has a historical significance as the former seat of Spanish colonial government and a base for Roman Catholic missions. Once known as the shoe capital of the Philippines, Marikina now boasts an underrated food scene, which Khee is determined to showcase to both locals and tourists alike.

At the recommendation of @ArnelAlina and @iflipover7749 I had the opportunity to hang out with @foodiemamaph and sample some of Marikina's best eats. What's your favourites in Marikina?

My favorite in Marikina is this another place that serves "Waknatoy." Waknatoy is my Mother's signature dish when it comes to cooking. Sadly, my Mom passed away in 2021. I am still depressed because I miss her so much. The place where I buy Waknatoy is at "Mama Chit's" Restaurant. It is located at 278 J. P. Rizal, Marikina City. The restaurant also has another signature dish called "Cuapao."
Awesome! He really enjoys the Filipino food in Marikina. Thats true! Marikina is one of the cleanest City in the Philippines

Putong pulo originated from Polo, Valenzuela City, Bulacan. Its brown because of the brown sugar, while Putong Calasiao, is very similar in consistency and size but its white due to the use of white sugar.

Enjoy Filipino food, glad you like it. If you're a foreigner and start to love Filipino food. Beware of your overall health, specially your cholesterol and sugar level. You need medicine support specially if you love meat. But good thing in my household we love fish, seafoods and more veggies. Very seldom we eat pork coz both my parents have hypertension.

Trivia: Putong PULÓ came from San Rafael, Bulacan which is 2 Barangays (barrio) from my Barangay called Puló. This type of Puto are the small ones either colored white or brownish-orangy. I was born and grew up in Manila and as a little kid then, I would ask my Dad to bring me a brown bag of mixed puto whenever he went home to the province to see my grandma and our ricefields. But now, the grandmas & moms who used to make this home business in Puló have gone, and their kids who have gotten educated pursued other careers and no longer continued eith the business. Now Putong Pulo are made in other places.

What is with the cheese? Cheese is showing up all over Asia on all types of foods. I was in Hawaii last week and found my favorite, the traditional Ensamada without cheese, just butter and sugar. It was so delicious and brought back great memories. Sorry about my cheese rant. Pan de Sal is just a dinner roll, looks like one anyway. You can put anything into it...a big pat of butter! 😋

😂😂😂 No worries on the rant. As to the cheese I have seen it here more than anywhere else, but oddly enough it works
18:06 I can even tell you where to go, because there is a good bakery and the owner is very passionate and knowledgeable about baking and products. "Tinapayan Festival Bakeshoppe" - he has the biggest variety of Pandesal and also produces historical pandesal vs. the one that filipinos currently eat. Among, of course, other products. If you really want to make a bakery episode, go to Lucito 'Chito' Chavez at his bakery near Santo Tomas University.

My mom cook waknatoy really good coz my dad born and raised in San Roque Marikina and my dad is shoe maker. My mom marinated the meat in soy sauce calamansi juice pickles cheese in almost 8hour refrigerate it and cook it the other day. Don't think is waknatoy is sweet coz my mom never add any sugar.
