About West Bromwich Albion:
West Bromwich Albion Football Club, also known as West Brom, the Baggies, the Throstles, or simply Albion, currently play in the English Barclays Premier League.
Established in 1878, Albion has a proud heritage and rich tradition as one of the 12 founder members of England's Football League.
The club won the Football League Championship in 1920 and are five-time FA Cup winners (1888, 1892, 1931, 1954 & 1968).
Strong footballing principles remain at the core of the club and its progressive thinking has seen it thrive on and off the pitch on a global stage, while not forgetting its roots.
The home of the 'Baggies' -The Hawthorns -- has a 26,586 capacity and sits in a central location in the Midlands.
Like the club's state-of-the-art training facilities, the stadium offers the ideal backdrop for Barclays Premier League football.
It remains a hive of activity all-year round as the club's directors and staff ensure everything is in place to remain competitive year after year in the biggest league in the world.

I MISSED the best of this frmidable group of black players; royal navy called from75-86 but Im so proud to say im a baggie as these guys were ours. such respectable people guys; Moses, Regis, Cunningham. were the Doyens of this era in British sport. boing boing!! from a 65 year old suffok based baggie, parents from St Stephens rd smethwick . thank you for posting i'm in tears watching. just glorious to watch in 2023.
It's such a shame that the media doesn't speak much about him.

He’s featured on the BBC website today. About time.
I was lucky enough to see him play. And cyrille. And the rest of the lads best 78/79 team. Nice memories .
3 Legends Regis , Cunningham and Batson watching them play made me so proud to be a Baggie at school in the 70s it was such a shame to see them go their separate ways as they were irreplaceable RIP Laurie n Cyril ...
Saw him play in Spain, fantastic talent!!

Sure you did, "Carlos".. LOL.
Great player. Such a silky, smooth, graceful, football machine. One of the top four English first division players of the late 70s. Along with Dalglish, Brady, Hoddle.
To this day I still say he should have stayed at West Brom and not moved to Real Madrid. Imagine if he'd spent his whole career at the albion, with players like Tony Brown, Cyrille Regis, Peter Barnes etc around him they would have won something, possibly the F.A Cup. Sadly missed.

With all due respect to WBA,not many players turn down the chance to move to Madrid from any club and I'm sure his wages were much higher in Spain.

we were points from winning the league in that era and should have won it if not for fixture congestion !
Outstanding player in an outstanding team.

Yeah, Real Madrid were great back then.
I don't know if anyone's mentioned this yet but this guy is the ONLY Real Madrid player to play in Camp Nou and be applauded by the Barcelona fans.
Won't be forgotten...

My favourite Cunningham is probably Steve Cunningham.
A true legend. COYB
He was a exceptionally talented player ! Seen him play make no mistake he was taken away long b4 he should have been ? A sad and bad day when he was ? Got there and earned his chance 2 play 4 a team that was world renowned then was gone in a cruel twist of chronic bad luck ! I never 4got him just as the West Brom fans didn't !

This was Laurie Cunningham, you racist! What, all black people look the same to you, do they? Idiot.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Laurie’s agent. Like me he grew up in Hackney, and was from the first black family that moved into Hackney in the late 1950’s. He told me so many story about his life and about Laurie is was so amazing. At the end of the chance meeting I told him that so many great stories like his own and Laurie’s go untold and it’s such a shame, and it’s important British history that can and should be celebrated. Thank you Ambrose, I’m gonna go to the Hackney museum and look for the pictures of your family and hope I bump into you again one day. Bless 🙏🏾
Great talent
This snippet doesn't do him enough justice really, he was a rare talent at the time and a privilege to watch
West from needs some legends

Fancy asking Ron Atkinson, of all people, for his opinion on an African American player!
Lori?
Cunningham ❤ but that Albion team must have been the most stylish, attack minded, talented team to never win the league. Easy! I’m not on about the money they throw about now either, anyone could do that at minute with a few million, I’m on about pure talent on a budget. Cunningham sadly died too soon and should have stayed at the Albion. Evolution at Real Madrid with English players is Cunningham-Mcmanaman-Beckham/Owen/Woodgate and now Bellingham. Most talented? Easily Cunningham and then Bellingham!
