    Picked this one up few days ago. Haven't had a mountain bike, or any bike in 15 years. What a thrill - rides like a dream. At 62 years of age, it's so great for my overall physical and mental health, while having a blast. Not even knowing if 29" was a good choice... bought it anyway. Overwhelming how fast this bike can go. If you are good to your body - your body will be good to you. 🚴🚴‍♀️

    I've had my Ridge for a few weeks now. I've upgraded my grips (Ergon GP-1), my pedals (Chester Raceface) and my brakes (Shimano mt200s). It meets all of my needs (commuting to work and light trail riding) and I'm super happy with it.

    @@tarstarkuszThe first thing I did after I bought it was take it to my local bike shop for a safety/assembly check, so I wasn't able to check if there was any assembly issues. As for upgrades, I'm not sure. I haven't had any issues with the drive-train, deurailer or crankset, so I think I'm going to leave those for now. To be fair, I haven't taken the bike on any difficult trails yet, so I can't comment on how they'll hold up on that. I'm going to be doing some minor things. I might look at 180mm rotors (although the 160mm on there work fine for now), maybe look into tubeless options and replace the seat (as it's not the greatest).

    @@tarstarkusz The price is what drew me to it. It wasn't just the bike that I needed to get. I'm basically starting over. I needed a new helmet, a bike carrier for my car, a decent lock, etc. My previous bike was a Trek Marlin 5 I bought back in 2015, but it needs a total overhaul and is in another state right now. My wife also needed a new bike, so we had to account for that as well, and accessories for her.

  • @tarstarkusz

    @tarstarkusz

    Жыл бұрын

    @@linkboy321 Yeah, it all adds up. But at least you can spare a bit on the lock. Big box bikes are generally only stolen opportunistically. They really don't have much aftermarket value. I might try putting on some K Mart logos or Huffy logos. There are videos on youtube that are so depressing. There's one of a guy stealing his own bike right in front of a cop. He's got these giant bolt cutters and is being very obvious about the theft with a camera surreptitiously filming the whole thing. There are also videos showing dozens of various locks being defeated in like 30 seconds or less with basic tools. There is virtually no correlation between the price of the lock and the amount of time needed to defeat it. Now with cheap easy to use powerful battery powered portable grinders everywhere, very few locks stand any chance of stopping a determined professional bike thief. Stealing a car or bike should be on par with stealing a horse in the 19th century, a capital offense!

    I’ve noticed most of the sizes frame options are MD or LG only. I would love to see the marketing research that seems to keep it that way. I suspect someone has done the math and determined SM and XL wouldn’t justify adding those. I could be wrong, but that’s what I suspect. I would love to see an option with 27.5 wheels for SM and an XL frame for taller riders 👍🏻

    Just an FYI, if this helps anyone, the Ridge is only offered in medium and large. I am 5'11" and I originally bought the large because I was in between the two sizes. The large is HUGE; it is as big if not bigger than most companies XL bikes. The only large bikes that are similar in size large are the Rocky Mountain Fusion series, Marlin Gen 3 series, and Kona Lava Dome. Part of the issue with the large frame is the stack...it is 662mm!! I have ridden the Fusion, Marlin Gen 3, and Lava Dome and they didn't feel as big. Long story short, I went with the medium and I think that was a good choice. The Ridge medium is almost identical in size to the Trek Marlin Gen 2 series large or the Gen 3 series M/L (which is my recommended size). The geometry is sooooo close to the Marlin Gen 3, if you like that feel. So, I feel like I got Marlin 6 Gen 2 for half the price or Gen 3 for $500 less, and ready for upgrades! If I put that extra $400-$500 into this bike, it will dominate similar priced bikes spec-wise. I hope this helps!

The small ridge's frame is actually pretty short, almost looks like a dj bike or something as far as seat tube height (looks great imo) I like the look of the slanted low rear frame on a bike. The medium looks nice aswell, but the large reminds me of the schwinn axum (its pretty dang big with a tall seat tube).

    Super impressed. If you like to tinker with bikes get this bike! I have a Motobecane that was also made in Taiwan. The Ozark Trail is half the cost of my bike (3years ago) and is pretty much the same frame and geometry even the provision for the internal route for a front derailleur. The difference is mine has a SRAM SX 12x groupset, dropper post and a little nicer wheelset and 2.5in tires. Mine does not have a tapered head tube and they both have the exact same forks. Basically the money saved on the Ozark Trail is in the groupset. Well worth the money to buy this ride it and then upgrade.

I almost popped for this bike after a thief kyped my grandsons schwinn AUXx 27.5 wally world which we had just rebuilt the bottom bracket, mounted new pedals, serviced the hubs and adjusted the derailleurs. How convenient for the thief. Anyways decided to go with Norco Indie I street fighter since grandson rides 99% on street or hard pack. I know the Ozark sells for $399.00 + tax while the Norco Indie sells on sale for $699.00 + tax. It's like apples compared to oranges no sense in detailing. Just Wanted to buy something that didn't need greasing...or possible adjustment or have damage from untrained assemblers. Just got a large and now it's got internal routing options for a front derailleur or dropper post. They also used a 34.9mm seat tube so there's no need to ream it out for a dropper post anymore. It's got a 180mm front rotor and 160 back. Microshift Advent drivetrain, wider tires, and the same SR Suntour fork. Also has mounting locations for a rear rack, but only one set of screws for a bottle holder.

    @KevCentral I'm looking at heavily upgrading either the Ozark Trail Ridge, Hyper Carbon 29, or Schwinn Axum DP, probably keeping only the frame. Based on your other videos, it seems like you really like all these bikes, so I wanted your input as someone who is the same height as you. Based on frame geometry and sizing for a 5'10" person, which would you recommend? All seem like good options and are similarly priced, but the multiple sizes available of the Ozark Trail, the dropper post of the Schwinn, and the carbon frame + routing tubes of the Hyper all have me split on which way to go. Which frame seems to be the most upgrade-friendly for a TA or boost? Thanks!

    If i wasn't saving for a newer bike FS bike.... I would immediately buy this for my new project loaner bike. I am actually very interested in just getting one just to upgrade and ride the trails with "Ozark Trail" on the side, to show my level of awesomeness LOL. I just don't need another hardtail :( I am already recommending these to friends left and right though that have been interested in riding with me lately. I am very excited to see this available. My local walmart a few blocks away has them in stock too!

    Pretty good.... It's hard to get a decent parts combination at this low price point. As long as it has stainless steel spokes with brass nipples and a removable narrow wide chainring. A note to all bike manufacturers stainless steel spokes with brass nipples should be mandatory at any price point to stop corrosion and allow for upgrades without wheel rebuilding being needed. People don't mind spending a little bit extra if they don't have to get the wheels rebuilt which is extremely expensive and is something they normally can't do themselves. Very nice frame 😎🇦🇺👍

Maybe get a air fork over time but even budget for that is expensive . You can nicely upgrade the bike and still be under $700 . Recently purchased a few bikes from REI on their Labor Day sale. A couple co op drt 1.1s and a drt 1.3. Having not ridden one of these, the drt 1.1 with a sale price of $479 might be a better overall value with 27.5 tires, 3x7 gearing and hydraulic brakes. ( normally $599) But this does have 29” tires and a lower entry price 🤔 It’s definitely not up to par with the components on the drt 1.3 , but it is a bike with 29” tires on a budget 🤷‍♂️ I hate these springy forks. I replaced the springy fork on one of my drt 1.1 with a rockshox Judy fork similar to the fork that came with the drt 1.3 . I did replace the uncomfortable seats with $30 fat butt gel seats from Wally World. Other than the fork upgrades on the drt 1.1 and the seats on all 3 bikes, I don’t think I’ll be upgrading anything else unless I break or wear something out. It’s nice to find somewhat affordable bikes to basically enjoy riding instead of just drooling over $5k -$10k entry fees and being stuck at home. While I’m happy with my drt 1.1, 1.3 and my mongoose malus, I’m considering adding one of these to the fleet as a grab and go bike. An affordable way to bring a bike less buddy along. Thanks for the review.
