Figured you were vegetarian when you ordered pozole without meat. My wife is vegetarian but we've never thought of doing that. She usually orders cheese enchiladas or tacos de requeson ( ricotta cheese) or some other vegetarian dish.

Good video! Even the darkish looking film noir eating.. In Ajijic, Olin(Vegan very preColumbian style) makes Verde Pozzole with oyster mushrooms and it is fantastic with their broth and the hominy.

Only one correction: Taco Dorado = Fried Taco When you talk about food, dorado means Fried, when you talk about other things, specially referring to the color (dorado) is golden. But thanks for sharing your experiences in Mexico.

@@colibritravel5994 As a vegan it is difficult. I brought my own vegan food including vegan cheeses, mayo, meats and chorizo on my last trip about two weeks. The beans are mostly made without lard but I always have to ask if the beans have meat, ( Charros). I have a complete list of vegetarian restaurants in and around in GDL if you're interested, let me know.

Hi, planning to move to Mexico some day. Not been there yet, so any little details are interesting for me. You don't say if you leave a tip and what's expected in % there. I'd love to learn about the names of the dishes and ingredients so that I'm ready when I move there. A visit to the market and learning about different fruit/veggies would be great.

Very entertaining, and informative vid.....do you find that dining out in a relatively inexpensive restaurant is a more affordable/attractive way to eat than cooking at home?....when you consider your time, cost of ingredients, less hassle, no waste, no dishes to wash, etc?

oh yeah, you can easily find food for $5 or $6, less at taco stands, more at some other restaurants. Uber eats is also much more affordable here than in the US as you can probably imagine

Eating out is good to try different things but the cleanliness of any eating establishment is suspect. If you’ve never worked in a Restaurant before even on the best of days you would know that. I’ve seen food on the floor get washed and put back. Vegetables roll on floors that just had Trash bags dripping trash juices on the floor then get a quick rinse (If you are lucky) and put in a salad. If any meats or chicken fall on the floor you are guaranteed they are going back in the frying pan. I have personally witnessed in my travels people rinsing old chicken with bleach to eliminate the odor before putting into a stew or heavy sauce to mask the odor. No one will waste expensive proteins especially in 3rd world countries. Many people urinate or deficate and don’t wash their hands after. The list goes on and on. I cook at home for a clean meal that is prepared in sanitary conditions, the cost savings is just a byproduct because my healthy is number one priority. . I try to limit my eating out as I don’t trust any of these places hygiene standards but sometimes I just roll the dice and try to buy items that are cooked to order, fresh and never Rare or medium cooked. Pro tip. Walk into the public restroom of a restaurant you like and If the bathroom is a total disaster run away as fast as you can.

I imagine it would be difficult to be a vegetarian in Mexico. Wouldn't the pozole have meat in it together with the hominy? Ah, I see that you ordered it without meat. I would be more interested in the conversation with the waiter or waitress than watching you eat. With the traffic noise I imagine it would be difficult to have a conversation with anyone in that place. Since you asked for feedback, as a lover of the language, the history, the geography, and the people I would not be interested in watching eating videos. Your last one was much better. You have to get out more, maybe get over to Tequila and into Nayarit or down to the coast, maybe to Manzanillo. I think it is more original to avoid the common tourist places and just go to small towns and have conversations with the people in Spanish (with subtitles for those who don't understand Spanish).

Ray, if you check out some of his other videos, you'll see that Blake does venture into other towns throughout Jalisco, including Tequila and some others one rarely sees on KZread. I didn't mind this visit to a restaurant in Zapopan, featuring typical Mexican "street foods," but would appreciate it, Blake, if you would tell us which part of Guadalajara you are in at all times for those of us who are somewhat familiar with the city. I suppose you had to drive, since El Pueblito is quite a distance from where you live. Gracias.

@@davidparasz4465 i watched those videos and liked them a lot. When I lived in Mexico many, many years ago (not as far back as Panchito V and Emiliano Z, but it was when Mexico was a paradise) it was in small towns, Ixlán del Rio, Nayarit, Pochutla, Oaxaca, and Ruíz, Nayarit. That is the Mexico I love.

Ray, if you watch his videos regularly you will see he does quite a bit of traveling. Frankly I enjoy seeing real life and that traffic is part of real life. It’s not always about what makes the “viewers” happy. It’s a shame people can’t slightly deviate from their regular content without criticism. I enjoyed seeing this, I clouding the traffic. It’s real life.
