Agreed. Seems like we all have the same issues when it comes to soloing, Getting stuck in "the box" and we want to break out and don't know where to go. I'll be working on this lesson till it's burned into my brain. Thanks!

Jules; you used parts of all 5 pentatonic shapes to make going horizontally up and down the neck simple. This was a breakthrough for me. Because I know all 5 shapes but struggled with making them sound musical. I now realize I needed less notes and more feeling in my improvisation. Thank you!

@@johnryan527 What Jules is doing is this: He took all 5 pentatonic shapes and just used parts of them to make going horizontally up and down the neck simple. It took me about 3 weeks to learn the other 4 pentatonic positions beyond the standard one which most know (that starts on the 6th string 5th fret A). Once you learn those - one can easily recognize what Jules did here. What I like is Jules took a lot of theory and work and broke it down into something simple to deploy immediately with a bit of practice. I'd say one can knock out 75% of all popular song solos with the notes he used in this vid across the neck. But I would need a musician to confirm my hunch.

I only recently had your channel show up in my algorithm. It’s already been a massive help in making me understand better use of the fret, and better soloing. I’ve been playing for quite a while but am so stuck in that intermediate range that it just seems pointless to pick up one of my guitars and just play the same stuff over and over. These five me things to work on. Even my wife, who’s one of Canada’s top opera singers actually said she couldn’t believe I was just sitting there “noodling” away. Her brother is VERY good so it’s intimidating as hell to go over and try to keep up with that level of ability. Again, thx and I’m subscribe. All the best. -D. 😎
