    This is a very useful mindset to have! I've generally thought about things in that way, which is why I tend to botch original techniques into my own thing. When it comes to creating our own "technique", or adapting useful concepts into our own practices, I think the way of thinking that was shared in the video can clarify so much and add lucidity to how to approach adapting "techniques" to our own practices.

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    I have certainly had lucid dreams. But I have not been able to have them a lot despite doing all the reading and the exercises. You just unlocked the reason for. I was definitely treating the techniques like recipes. It can produce comical results. My favorite for a long time was the hand technique (I learned it from Robert Waggoner’s book but I know it’s from a Castaneda book. ) and it has worked for me at times. But mostly I will see my hands in some unusual way in a dream and just keep dreaming unaware. I look forward to applying this idea starting tonight.

    Another thing iv noticed many times. I can wake up and the dream is still "playing" like a movie with normal speed. But transparent over my wake vision. Lasts for 5-10 seconds. If I decide to close my eyes I will fall back into it. Scientists claims your dreaming just a short time before waking up. But if so the dream would had to play at x100 speed for it to fit.

    It could be a number of factors, getting older does tend to increase night-time awakening, equally the time you eat and drink will play a factor. Blue light from phones and screens should be avoided before sleep. However it could just be excitement. But don't worry about the brief lucidity, that's very normal at the start.

    To be honest, I've never really used any techniques when trying to lucid dream due to the reasoning that they just didn't work for me or I didn't see the point in them. It's something that I've completely skipped for a while, always just trying to "brute force" lucid dreams with just doing reality checks/NOWs. If the large majority doesn't work, why even bother with the rest? Maybe I've thrown out techniques a bit too early as some of them did help slightly. There's been a few times where natural awakenings and running through the latest dream have helped with lucidity - I've just never attributed it with a "technique" and mainly used it to increase the chances I would remember the dream. I think WHY has a great importance for those who do try techniques. Often times techniques work like copy-and-paste code or answers from a website with no explanation on why they work. WHY helps you understand what you're doing or even if it's a waste of time or effort. Thanks for the great video! I'll try using some of the tips said in the video more often as my lucidity levels have been dropping. Hope everyone has a great day!

    My guess is you're under 20. Lucidity is considerably easier for children and teenagers (sadly it doesn't last) - and requires a lot less effort. You're using the prospective memory/intention technique. Techniques themselves don't matter as much as utilising the correct areas of the brain. My advice, enjoy this phase of your life while it lasts, but also be prepared for it to require more work and techniques etc. when older.

    Really enjoyed this video. It's important to understand why the principles one is working with work in the first place, and to use that knowledge to work with the technique "I'd say templates" to create a version that works for them.

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    @LucidDreamPortal

    9 ай бұрын

    Absolute spot on Dmitry! Templates is a great choice of words, part of the reason I'm somewhat critical of "technique-obsession" is so often people are looking for a "Holy Grail Technique", when there is no such thing, it's an understanding of the principles and how they interact, their purpose, and all the other fiddly subtleties of the mind that cannot be summed up in simple one-size-fits-all steps.

But have decided to try your techniques to see i f i do have them more by trying these techniques. After a lucid dream i often feel joy or happiness for days or weeks after, it has always been that way. So if it could happen more often i should be much happier in life. Will give it a go as have started meditating a bit before i lay down to go to sleep and that has certainly helped me sleep much better, i guess it relaxs you deeply and that is what may be helping. • @LucidDreamPortal

    @LucidDreamPortal

    9 ай бұрын

    You've stumbled across one of the more important parts of "Why?", it has the strange impact of making us realise that a lot of the techniques out there are somewhat arbitrary. SSILD is a good example, most of that "technique" isn't really all that useful. The functional part of SSILD, if you can call it that, is really little more than intention setting and setting focus on something, the other steps and the choice of focusing on sense could really be replaced with almost anything.

    Serious question: How similar are daydreaming and dreaming? Just out of curiosity, can journaling daydreams help with lucid dreaming or is not not recommended? How is it different from recording dreams?

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    @LucidDreamPortal

    9 ай бұрын

    It's definitely worth journalling both. Probably the best way to think of them both is as "weather of the mind". Daydreams are like observing the weather while safe and shielded indoors, while dreaming is like standing outside directly at the mercy of it. So the difference is mostly a matter of degree. At least on the ways that matter for our purposes. There are other important differences but those are not really relevant for our goals.

    Question about dream journaling: Does the type of dream that you record cause you to be more likely to have dreams like that in the future? So if I only record the types of dreams I want to have, I'll be most likely to have those dreams? For example, if I never record nightmares in my dream journal, will I be less likely to have them?

    great video but i have a bit of a brainfog so i think i need to watch the video again maybe tommorow again. what i did understand is that you need to keep asking yourself the question WHY. about dreaming in general, i wonder why my non lucid dreams are so much more longer and vivid and when i'm lucid the dream fades so fast. i think the next time i become lucid (after reality checks then i'm sure hundred procent) i will ask myself how to sharpen the dream and two times in previous lucid dreams i rubbing my hands and then the dream comes into focus again but still with this technique or not my Lucid Dreams are very short maybe even less than a minute. i do crazy things like flying or telekinesis and even teleporting myself but then the dream becomes vague too fast, probably because over excitement. any tips on how to calm down in a dream and not panicking? i think that's the problem though, i'm too excited and go panic mode as soon as the dream slightly fades away; other times i go lucid for a quick twenty or thirty seconds, then i lose my lucidity and its a normal dream again. i have read your book but for some reason when i'm in the dreamworld i cant remember what i learned from the real world as the dream is still not sharp enough. anyway, great video as always.

    Normally short lucid dreams are mostly due to becoming lucid at the end of REM, as that's when the mind starts to "come online" as it nears wakefulness. So it's baked into beginner lucid dream practice. The trick is to ride that out over time, continue to practice, and that point of lucidity will find its way nearer to the start of the dream. Maintained awareness is the shortcut past that, but that comes with its own challenges. As for ways to not panic, I think I need to make a video on that, as you've raised some fundamental points here that I think everyone could benefit from. I'll put that on the to-do list!

    @@LucidDreamPortal by the way, speaking about Lucid Dreaming. i had a Lucid dream the previous night ago. i had a very strong thought i could be dreaming when i talked to a certain famous youtubers (not gonna name them here though lol) and i was telling them i need to reality check because it felt a bit weird that i talked to youtubers then i did the finger trough palm and then the Nose Pinch test. that second one got me lucid. i did some random stuff and talked to the dreamcharacters. but again, the dream was shortly going to die and i tried at least the Portal Method but i think i lost my lucidity somewere around one minute after and the dream faded very fast even with rubbing my hands. i still dreamed a little bit but it was very short because i woke up. its always amazing, however how short it was, waking up from a Lucid Dream and beeing proud of it. but i need more practise in longing the Lucid dream. but i'm getting there and i feel like my Dry Spell is gone because i had already two vague semi lucid dreams in October, so yeah, i'm getting better at this.

    Yes (technically), but with the chaos and responsibilities of everyday adult life, I don't always choose to lucid dream each night. I also hugely enjoy non-lucid dreams and enjoy having those also, so the most accurate answer is: I can lucid dream when I choose to do so. There's a more in-depth answer here: www.thelucidguide.com/post/lucid-dreaming-frequently-asked-questions

    For the imp technique how do you open your eyes after you become lucid without waking up

    No need to worry about such things, the visual element of the dream starts with eyes open (remember there are no true eyes or eyelids in dreams)

    Great video as always 👍🏻 I will try it out the next time I wake up naturally during the night. Btw I noticed when I wake up during a REM period I get really creative ideas. E.g. how to decorate my room or what I could paint/write etc. And my smartwatch can't measure my sleep cycles accurately.

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    Thanks Mina! Yes, that's the same principle that the Artistic Response Test is based upon. REM and creative thinking go hand-in-hand, neural fluidity seems to increase dramatically during that phase, so it's a great way to know if REM is inbound, and incredibly useful as a creative tool. When I'm struggling for video ideas on some weeks (inevitable after 7 years of creating), I use this practice for new ideas. So it's very much the case that many of the videos on this channel were formed with a REM soaked mind :)

    Sadly, because most sources online are very very lazy and don't do their research. It's quite straightforward, look at your previous dream and assess which moments should have led to lucidity, things that were illogical, impossible etc.

    In March 9th mycapartment had a fire and my most precious pets died.I moved to a new place,nonstop crying ,having guilt over what more could have I done to save them.The super had my bike,and cats that survived.It was painful to go back,I decided not to go upstairs to my apartment,but wondered if their souls are lost there.One night I realised that I was lucid dreaming.So I knew I was on a different plane...so I decided to call my cats one by one to my bed,as I used to do,before the partment fire.First I called Graham,my ginger cat.Next minute he jumped up and ran to me as usual.It was real.It wasnt a dream.I held him and smelled him.I new we were in a lucid dream and I new what we had that moment was real.So I decided to call my other cat,Zera.She appeared to,jumped up and curled in my arms as usual.It wasnt a dream it was real.Next I called Junior.He was a big tabby boy.I told him I missed you!And gave a kiss on his cheek.Now when all this happened I knew I was lucid dreaming and I knew that they passed away.I knew ..I entered a different plane or dimention where is possible to meet again.They telepatcally told me that they have to leave,and next minute they jump off the bed,but I knew from then that they are with me.When I went back I realized I could have called my adorable tuxedo cat that died during the corona..because at this dimention everything is possible.I had lots of lucid dream in my life...but they just came and were without porpuse.Now I truely wanna develop it.I wanna enjoy to meet my loved once..and conscenstly talk to them about serious things.

    One of the things you are in lucid dreams,that you see your room.In deep dreams everything looks different.You know that's your house but that house looks different where are you ow.Lucid dream is when you dream but it feels like your eyes is open ad you see your room exactly how it is.Everythig in that room looks exaclty like you were sitting on your bed ad see everythig how it is.
