The Best Local Eats in Silay Negros Occidental with Erwan

Negros Occidental is a food haven. Once dubbed as the “sugarlandia” of the country, the province is the place to be for historical haunts because of the abundance of the well-preserved ancestral houses and of course, the heirloom recipes that are still being served in these modern times.
Erwan Heussaff is ready to devour the best dishes that Silay has to offer like baye-baye, the famous guapple pie, KBL (kadyos, baboy, langka), and many more! This is just the start of our food adventures in Negros Occidental, stay tuned for the next episode!

I'm from Iloilo and I always get excited whenever I have hearings in Silay. The first time I went there, I really had a good sleep in one of the old houses that was converted into a Mini-Hotel, Balay 8. I had native coffee in the Patio of that house and it was so peaceful. I heard the birds chirping. Best morning of my life.

Yes!!!! I've always said this about Ilonggo food, especially in Negros area, our food is severely underrated. Yes, the inasal is nationally and possibly, world known but we are more than that. Love how Silay keeps these legacy foods going and so proud of that. Also, Marit's Piaya is on of Chef JP's fave and he's helped her boom. She deserves it, in fact, all of these people deserve it because they're preserving Pinoy and Ilonggo culture. And also, I love our Ilonggo accent when speaking Tagalog. Ka nami gid ya sang accent ta. ❤❤❤

Thank you for taking notice of Silay. Emma Lacson is my first stopover for fresh lumpia always, easier when the airport is in the vicinity. I was amused that you went to the mercado first for the kakanin. In Silay it was known as the maniglibod (roving vendors) usually composed of women plying food to households. My uncle, Ramon Hofileña would gather a few of them at our ancestral home during his annual cultural tours which ran about 32years to have the participants buy and taste the local treats. As I recall, most of the manoglibod would claim that they got their products from Emma Lacson. El Ideal was our merienda spot while growing up. Most families are related that whenever we ran short of cash, the cashier would tell us that they will get the short amount from our Lola Gilda as she ordered their pan de siosa at 3pm daily. There are the Legaspi pastel or mango tart and dulce gatas that was made from carabao milk that we make a point to bring back for relatives outside of the province. Again, thank you.

More than just Inasal, Negros is undeniably just the Desserts Capital of the Philippines. Like no one could ever compete. Period. If you are looking for Afternoon Teas, Decadence, Colonial vibe. Silay is the place to be. I really hope the government invites all contractors to build more colonial architecture.. such a city with class and sophistication.

Best believe I'll be spending my holidays here in this town. Good food, good food spots, a serene ambience.. man, this place is exactly what I need. Thank you for showing this gem to us! I've heard good things about the province and Silay City but this highlights everything I need to know. My cousin went last year and one of his pasalubong is paiya..I kid you not, that was freakin gooooddd 🤌 piaya best served when it's hot with kapeng barako! I guess it really is time for me to visit the city ✨
