The Best Hitting Strip From Carl's Place

Your hitting surface is one of the most vital pieces of your indoor setup, and I've had extensive use on both the Carl's Golf Mat Insert and Carl's Divot Hitting Strip from Carl's Place. as I've continued my challenge to learn golf indoors. I discuss each in detail so you choose the right one for your simulator.

Thanks, @hulley29! I am glad you got something out of it. I really enjoy making these and sharing a true user experience. I will add that I am back on the standard strip as I get ready to play outside. I think it does have more of a grass feel as the divot strips do hide chunks a bit too well. As my swing has become more mechanically correct, my tendonitis has gone away. Thank goodness!

Haven’t tried the carls but do have the holy grail which is almost identical. It’s very easy on joints but it’s very unrealistic as it’s almost too forgiving. It’s probably why you were seeing straighter shots as your clubhead isn’t really getting the grab it would from grass. I’ve used CCE which made me a much better ball striker as I learned not to hit far as the pain was too much. Lol. But then tried Softstrike from HD golf which was way too forgiving as well and hurt my game. Then EZ Tee Hybrid which is my current go to as it balances the realism vs low joint pain best so far. I still use my holy grail but only when people are over and back up my mat. I want to try the sigpro softy but it’s so thick that my current stance mats would need to be raised or I’d have to drop a lot of money for the sigpro full setup. Mats are one of the hardest things to get right in a sim. The trade off between realistic with pain vs too forgiving with no pain ……no right answer. Lol.

Great insight @mpkelley20, and thanks for the comment! I forgot to mention that my Carl's Divot Hitting Strip is the Advanced(soft), and I believe the HG is similar to the Beginner(softer) Carl's Divot. What I need is both the Advanced and Beginner strips from @carlsplace to compare back to back. I agree on the Softy, would love to try it, but the increased thickness just won't work for me, and I wouldn't redo my entire floor just for that unless it was perfect. I'd also love to find a way to test real feel v. hitting strips. If you are hitting down on the ball with an iron as you should be, how is the ball flight affected on each strip? Ball than grass... Although maybe it's the miss-hits that we are looking at. I definitely get some woods that will bounce off the deck before hitting that ball that surely would be a much different outcome outdoors. This is all really fun for me, and I hope to continuously increase my knowledge and share as the indoor golf industry grows!

@@goinforeit you got me thinking about trying all of my mats to compare launch angle, spin, distance and offline numbers now. Lol. I can say that my ball flight on course is very similar to what I see on ez tee hybrid. I use that one the most but I think I will try my other mats just to compare.

@@mpkelley20 Do it! I love that we can get actual numbers to compare stuff rather than just personal feel. I'm actually comparing a couple different clubs to my Stix stuff right now. The results are pretty wild. Let me know what you learn!

Oh, man! How was your fitting experience? What did you end up finding that worked for you the best? The Fiber Built does have a great feel. For me, it's the cost of replacement strips that is rough.

I was just on their site the other day to order another one and noticed that. Unfortunately, these strips don't last very long when playing as much as I do indoors. I imagine demand going into the indoor season is probably increasing yearly, making inventory hard to manage? Hopefully, you get one sooner than later!

I don't see why not. I would imagine they'd show wear a bit quicker due to the elements, but should work fine!

Bummer... at least it's still a fraction of what the other companies cost. $300+ for a replacement strip is absurd.
