    The way you solve the tee chasing with BirTee is to tie a shoelace to the bottom of the tee and tuck it under the mat so the tee flies, but not very far and no wooden tee bits all over. Do not use a flat shoelace because they will wind up like mad - use a round lace and they do not wind up. Nice mat video - I make my hitting mats with this process and they are awesome!

    Thanks for this! Hoping to build the perfect home practice setup. One interesting supplier is one that Michael Breed has mentioned on his show recently. They do lots of commercial work. Elite Synthetic Surfaces is their name, I believe. Haven't decided on my exact mat yet though.

    Great video. I have a home skytrak setup, and as you know, you have to hit from a very similar spot each time. I have a hard mat now, and looking to get a more realistic feel. But, something that lasts also. You have any idea of how many iron hits this will take? Of course we aren't Great golfers, so we hit fat more than normal.. any input would be appreciated.

    I think I understood the question. Matt’s will break down and get softer over time, and I kind of like going a little firm at first with the understanding that this will happen. Generally the break in period is about 500-1000 swings before the fibers start breaking down, and that’s usually where the Matt’s we use really comes to life

  • @rmljr52

    Thanks. Very good information. The yoga mat you use is 1/4" thick. I am looking at one that is 5/8" thick. Is more better or would the mat become too spongy?

  • @SwingFit

    Too spongy. We just need a little extra layer of forgiveness but not so much that is becomes too soft. Great question.

    I know I’m a few years late, doesn’t cutting out the yoga mat to make room for the cardboard/tape just remove all of the extra cushion right where you need it? If not, couldn’t you just use cardboard under the whole mat? And if he yoga mat is better than the cardboard, why not use a section of yoga mat wrapped in tape(to keep the tee from ripping through)?

  • @SwingFit

    @SwingFit

    So not really, that was really only used for when hitting the driver. So you would never come into contact with the Matt. Since then I’ve switched to the new BirtTees. Those things have been phenomenal.

    John, do you allow for different surface types in the bay? Sandy type surface (very spongy) or thicker for rough simulation?

  • @SwingFit

    @SwingFit

    2 жыл бұрын

    That’s a really good question and originally we had several types of surfaces but realized quickly is that it just introduces another variable to in an attempt minimize the variances we simply have one type of hitting surface.

    Just came accross this as i am looking into building my own mat, have you tested it with using 1 or 2 layers of carpet pad under the mat instead of yoga mat? any thoughts this was my first thought when i was thinking it through before i seen your video with the yoga mat

  • @SwingFit

    @SwingFit

    2 жыл бұрын

    Haven’t tested it with carpet, the only thing you want to be mindful of is the overall thickness that you run into when using different materials the yoga Matt is what I found to work really well but I say it couldn’t hurt to test and try.

  • @holtzeee7364
    @holtzeee73643 жыл бұрын

    I am sure you tried fiberbuilt in your testing. What were your thoughts on that and how does this compare? I like the injury prevention but feels ummm different let’s say at impact. Hard to describe. Might try making a hitting strip out of this to try.

    @@SwingFit John, I really appreciate all of your advice. You mention that you have tested the fiber built mat and don’t care for it. I appreciate that feedback because they are certainly not inexpensive and I’m glad to not waste money on it. Have you tested the real feel country club elite? Could you help with a few follow up questions? ever tried a “premium” mat like EZ Tee, if so, how does this compare? Do you have any padding under the hitting strip in your floor? (Like besides the yoga mat) How long does a trip last you? Thanks!

    No additional padding other than yoga Matt, about a year but that’s constant use so 25-30 fits a week, and the only other Matt’s I tried and liked are the synthetic turf international eztee line Matt’s. I would order a 4x4 and make 4-2x2’s

    I don't know man, doesnt seem lkke much savings over just buying a premium mat which will last indefinitely. I practice 3 to 4 times a day and have done so for 2.5 years on my mat, no signs of wear at all. It's called Country Club Elite. It was pricey but worth it.

    Here is the great thing this thing last is about a year and that is everyday high use. Basically you treat the Matt as if it has 4 sections Front left back left, front right back right. And all you are going to do is rotate which section you hit out of. So say month 1 hit front left, month 2 back left, then month 3 front right, month 4 back right, then rotate Matt 180 and start over hitting the shots in the opposite direction of the first 4 months. Hope this made sense.

    Awesome vid John but PLEASE use a respirator. Your breathing into your lungs and organs chemicals that bond together whatever they touch and the LAST thing your lungs or you need is a lifetime being shortened for a very very simple matter of a few extra seconds to put on a respirator and a few dollars. Just a recommendation by someone speaking from experience . Keep up the great vids and live a long healthy life to golf into the sunset my man !
